Avatar m tn Husband has COPD & uses oxygen 24/7. He has an oxygen concentrator & also uses a CPAP. Recently on just the oxygen his readings are in the low 70's & he can hardly do anything without being extremely out of breath. If he uses the oxygen with the CPAP his readings go into the low 90's. trying to understand why the big difference.
Avatar m tn If you wake in the morning with a headaches, it is an indication of low oxygen. You may need an oxygen concentrator which is appliance that plugs into your CPap machine. Good luck and I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea waking 23 times per hour. I've since lost somewhere around 35-40 pounds. I believe I still have apnea, but not as severe. I was completely unable to handle cpap as it induced vertigo (a problem which I have intermittently), and sharp pains in my ears. I worked with the doctor and even on the lowest settings I had problems. I tried an oral device, but I have severe TMJ and it was too painful.
1876958 tn?1321567960 My understanding is that the CPAP machine will reduce pressure in my brain because my heart does not have to pump so much to circulate oxygen. My blood oxygen level dropped significantly at night (down to 60%) during my sleep study. The expectation is that my headaches will improve not get worse. Any idea if the CPAP machine is, in fact, causing my headaches to worsen? It is possible that I am just going through a rough patch. Thanks for you help.
503486 tn?1340976774 t breath on her own. I need to fly to the US I live in Puerto Rico she has a Oxygen concentrator in the house but that one is not allow in the Plane please help me choose the right Portable Oxygen Concentrator for my daughter so I can fly. Right now she is in 2 LPM.
Avatar m tn I have the portable concentrator. It's handy, but there are problems. It only supplies oxygen when you breathe in through your nose, so if you are talking you may not get as much oxygen as you like. It works best when you keep your mouth shut - a difficult feat for me. Also mine supplies one, or two, or three liters. But whereas I can get by nicely with two liters on liquid oxygen, I barely make it with three on the portable. Again that may be because I talk so much.
Avatar m tn I've been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. I also have major sinus problems. I've tried the bipap and cpap machines with many different mask and can't find anything I can tolerate. The mask is one thing, but the air being forced causes my sinus problems to increase by stopping up my nose which makes me breathe through my mouth which as everyone knows won't work. Does anyone have issues close to what I have or any other suggestions.
Avatar f tn My c-pap machine is a REMstarAUTO with A-Flex. It's a very good machine. I took the model with the humidifier because they air in winter is to dry not to have it. My only problem is that I have a nasal mask only and I should have get two! One nasal and a full face for when I have sinus infections (which is often with me!). I tried both but I prefer the nasal one. If you have a the chance ask if you can try diferent kind of mask before you make your choice.

Avatar f tn They want to monitor me for 1 more month, and if it shows that I am still struggeling with shallow breathing, they will send me home with something to hook me up to monitor my oxygen for 1 night. She also said that they may have to switch me from a c-pap machine to a bi-pap machine. What are some causes for shallow breathing?
Avatar f tn My mom is having the same problem and I'm trying to visualize how your instructions would work, wouldn't the humidifier than be sort of hanging near you, if it was attached to a small tube, then the trap and cannula? It seems like it would be fine for sleeping since you could secure it somewhere but what about when she is up and moving around?
Avatar n tn I have used CPAP for 2-3 months, there appears to be little benefit, I switched from APAP?, the automated pressure version, to a constant 12 with the machine releasing pressure when breathing out (C-flex), this was with a Respitronics machine.
467579 tn?1289402969 Implantation of an oxygen concentrator in the lungs is not feasible and may never be even with nanotechnology, given the serious inherent problems associated with the placement of a foreign body in the human body. The current provision of supplemental oxygen from an external source is easy, safe and increasingly more convenient.
Avatar f tn Cpap machines are a scam. Horrible contraptions that ruin health and break relationships. Big money is made selling these monstrous, ugly, humiliating machines. All of the companies want you to think that they are wonderful and your spouse will love it and it's great look. You will have a personal, intimate relationship with this machine that will become more important than your spouse. Your spouse will feel left out, betrayed and alone. Do not fall for the scam. Demand another option.
Avatar n tn *on a CPAP machine. Not *in one. Sorry for the typo. You don't go *in a CPAP machine.
Avatar f tn When is it necessary to use an oxygen concentrator during air travel? My oxygen level is 94 using an oximeter.
1555684 tn?1294434646 Many elected surgery over CPAP and ended up STILL needing CPAP. It takes time for the medical community to get a good picture of a new treatment's long term effectiveness. I would consider the device you mention, but not for a very long time. Since weight is not your issue, you could very well have a jaw structure that is more narrow than what allows comfortable breathing once the tissues relax during sleep.
Avatar f tn My mom is in the end stage of copd, she is on 100% oxygen 24/7, she sweats pretty much all the time and her breathing has gotten worse since I attached the distilled water to the concentrator because she was having too many nosebleeds, does the distlled water tank have anything to do with her breathing and is the sweating because her heart is not getting enough oxygen?
Avatar m tn 1 FEF25-75/FVC = 18/s Just started using oxygen concentrator abou 1-2 weeks ago. Now, he is on portable oxygen concentration to ease his oxygen intake, about 2 Liter. And patient encounter several problems such as cold sweat and strengthless as compared to previous month. Sometimes his hands are shaking while his performing activities such as writing as so. And he is feeling less strength on the feet as well.
1767141 tn?1313678474 Does anyone continue to feel very tired and sleepy right after waking even with CPAP and/or oxygen and if so what have you done about it? My heart, lungs have been thoroughly checked out and they are fine. All other health tests are up to date and are good. I just takes me all day long to get any energy back after the terrible fight I have trying to sleep between 4 and 6 am when I finally wake up exhausted. I'm at my wit's end.
Avatar f tn At rest without oxygen I find my levels range from 85-65 and my heart rate is 80-114. So when I use the oxygen I see my levels rise to above 90 which I know this is where it should be. I am very concerned about the low levels. When I go to see my doctor and they measure my O2 it's always with my oxygen on , so how can they get an accurate reading other than above 90. I also forgot to mention that last year I had an echo done and I had moderate PH and this year went to severe PH.
Avatar n tn Someetimes there are other health issues with the lungs that affect the oxygen levels and require adding oxygen to the cpap if determined there is a need. Sleep apnea certainly can cause daytime fatigue. In many cases, therapeutic cpap treatment restores one to health and vitality. In some, damage can have occured. If any doubt, a cardiac workup wouldn't hurt.
Avatar m tn What are the possible effects of 60 - 90 minutes of low blood oxygen? Is this dangerous? Why would my blood oxygen level drop despite using BiPAP and O2? Thanks very much.
Avatar f tn can anyone tell me what all those numbers mean on the machines that surround him ? what is the oxygen levels, heart rate and pulse rates that are considered normal for premature babys at this stage ?
Avatar m tn Actually getting more sleep without the CPAP, by just using chin strap and nasal cannula for oxygen.
Avatar m tn I currently have a friend who has Hypoxia, and has severe sleep apnea. She has a CPAP / with oxygen and her O2 levels are ridiculously low. Low 80's. She is obese and refuses to lose weight. She was taking opiates for months that ultimately caused her apnea.she is also averaging 58 apneas an hour. She woke the other night gasping for air. I have said to her so many times...execise, lose weight and eat better...this should make her start feeling better right??
