Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea too and I stopped breathing over 300 times so 203 times is normal my pulse ox dropped in the low 40's I have a cpap machine and there are no horror stories about it as long as you get the right mask to fit you you will be fine there is air blowing when you breathe in and out it is normal especially if you have a nasal mask I have a full face mask because I am a mouth breather and because I have oxygen going in mine I like the cpap good luck.
Avatar m tn Hi hunter, I also have sleep apnea and terrible sinus problems. But have found using the Climitline heated hose to be very soothing to my sinus's, keeps my nasal passages open and breathing easier, I did need to use a full face mask due to my mouth breathing issues.
Avatar f tn You should consider taking care of your nasal congestion first, which will allow you to breathe better and also be able to benefit from CPAP for your sleep apnea. You're right—using a nasal cannula doesn't make sense if your nose is stuffy. See an ENT for your nasal congestion.
Avatar n tn 1) he was probably given the ambien cr to help sleep with cpap machine. 2) he can stop breathing (totally) in the night. and another issue is it hurts your heart and other organs over time. people dont use it and they can die. I use mine every night. a cpap is a very uncomfortable thing. it take time to get use to it. try to get him to use it.
Avatar m tn but I take pain reliever pms at nite to get to sleep. have a cpap machine. it works to a point. keeps me breathing. but dont get me to sleep. so im up to the point where i take 7-8 pms at night to get to sleep. could that cause pancreas problems?
Avatar m tn for example, a nasal obstruction that might be surgically relieved. Then perhaps, the use of a nasal cannula might be feasible. If you are normally able to breathe through your nose but cannot while asleep, you might want to give consideration to the type of soft-gel mask commonly used with Nasal C-PAP. Oxygen can be fed into that type of system, at high concentration.
Avatar m tn It really depends on what's causing your nasal congestion. I have a wealth of resources on my website (http://doctorstevenpark.com), as well as articles on nasal congestion on ezinearticles.com. You can just search for my name.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I wonder, do you have nasal congestion during the day that is severe enough to force mouth breathing? Do you experience nasal congestion at night? That could give you clues to a solution. Sorry to ask personal questions. Naturally, there is no obligation to answer. Your situation has just captured my attention and I'd like to help you find some answers.
5054005 tn?1362922551 I think my problem is more related to nasal congestion not to stopping breathing. I do revert to breathing through my mouth as my "dry mouth" will testify to. I do not like to sleep on my back. My sleep problems are also disturbed by troubled dreams. A sleep study may also pot some numbers on my dreaming. If I am in non-dream deep sleep sufficiently to get rested, then just putting up with the dreams my be all that I can or should do.
Avatar f tn I just started using a CPAP & was totally unprepared for the feeling of breathing toxic air. I didn't last 2 hours using the machine & finally took off my mask when my lungs were burning & I had severe nausea. It felt like the plastic fumes from the tubing or mask was being forced into my body. I had to take a hot shower (2:30 am) & breath the steam for 30+ minutes before I felt some relief in my lungs.
Avatar f tn Well, sneezing and watery eyes can be due to a reaction to CPAP machine. This machine dries up the eyes and nasal passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. You can try a cold water humidifier to start with. If you already have a humidifier and you still experience these symptoms you may need a heated humidifier. In most cases this resolves nasal congestion and irritation if it is caused by CPAP. However, its best to consult your specialist.
Avatar m tn This is a serious question about breathing. I have always noticed i gather a lot of dirt in my nose ( a polite way of putting it) which i have to remove in private.I think it might cause breathing problems through the nose. What causes for access dirt to gather in the nose and is there away to prevent it?
Avatar n tn During the last 8 months I have trouble finishing the waltz. I have been diagnosed with sleep aphnea, post nasal drip, and gerd. Also on allergist has given me the test for allergy. They found that I was allergic to 15 different things. However this may or may not be causing the problem. I may not be exposed to these allergens. I believe these 4 thing are somehow interrelated The sleep disorder place has ordered a cpap continuos positive air pressure pump with a mask.
Avatar n tn In another form of the disorder, central apnea, both oral breathing and throat and abdominal breathing efforts are simultaneously interrupted. In a third type of apnea, mixed apnea, a brief period of central apnea is followed by a longer period of obstructive apnea. Sleep apnea can be recognized by a number of symptoms. Loud and intermittent snoring is one warning signal.
1323747 tn?1364806882 This is day 14 of CPAP. I am able to wear the nasal cushions, once I figured out the correct size, easily and turning up the humidity to 4 has made the air comfortable. I actually find the CPAP itself comfortable. It is just that the entire time I have had it on I have awaken with headaches which were not there before and my morning BP is higher then it was. Obviously something needs tweaking. I also find myself searching for the right words...often taking an embarrassing amt.
Avatar m tn For snoring you should avoid taking alcohol and try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. Aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks. If this does help with your symptoms check with your doctor to rule out obstructive sleep apnea. Regards.
Avatar m tn Allergy treatment with nasal steroids /antihistamines and moisturizing nasal spray for 4 months did not resolve the issue. Thanks for the help.
Avatar f tn I am 64 with copd and sleep apnea also. I use a cpap at night with 2 liters oxygen. I use several inhalers. The cpap is designed to push the air in your lungs to keep you from dieing when you stop breathing in your sleep. It also makes your lungs stronger because it forces them to work on a deeper level. How long have you been using a cpap? Do you get along with it ok? I have had mine since November.
Avatar f tn In light of the possible connection between apnea and reflux, post nasal drip etc, it may make sense to try the cpap again if I still have apnea. Two of the doctors at the practice are board certified in pulmonology and critical care medicine and two are board certified in sleep medicine.
525545 tn?1293181194 By the way, one of the most common causes for not improving with nasal masks or nasal pillows is opening the mouth while sleeping and letting the therapy go out the mouth instead of down the throat. There are chin straps for that. If you have a sore under your nose, the mask is probably not properly fitted. There is a forum all about adjusting to and using cpap called cpaptalk. You may find some helpful hints there.
222135 tn?1236488221 Any one use a CPAP or BiPAP? Can you tell me how long it took you to get used to sleeping with it? Do you really feel better? Waiting to get mine and not too thrilled about it. I hated it when I had to do the titration stay for CPAP. Really did not like the way it felt. Any thoughts?
