Avatar f tn I have had excellent luck with the Resmed Mirage Quattro mask. It has a knob at the top of the mask that adjusts the pressure against the forehead and nose. I wake-up without redness or cuts on the nose. It is a full face mask which is a concern if you're using the nasal CPAP. I was getting redness and cuts when I first started using CPAP but it turns out that my mask was too small. Once I went to a large Mirage Quattro, the bleeding stopped.
332074 tn?1229560525 I use the full CPAP mask that covers my mouth and nose. At first it caused me a somewhat claustrophobic feeling and I always wanted to rip it off my face, but I got over that after a few days and now it is no problem. I sleep like a baby with it now.
Avatar f tn Hi Meagher sorry you are having problem with your CPAP the only thing i may suggest is another type of mask i dout if the CPAP machine would send out any toxic air what i my suggest is run the CPAP for a while please let me know how you get on........
Avatar m tn I've been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. I also have major sinus problems. I've tried the bipap and cpap machines with many different mask and can't find anything I can tolerate. The mask is one thing, but the air being forced causes my sinus problems to increase by stopping up my nose which makes me breathe through my mouth which as everyone knows won't work. Does anyone have issues close to what I have or any other suggestions.
Avatar n tn You might also try sleeping with just the mask and no pressure for a couple of days to see if it is a pressure issue or a weirdness of having a mask on. Once you are used to the feel of a mask, a lot can be done with pressures. My machine will gradually increase to the right pressure over time if I want it to, but I don't bother with that anymore. Please keep trying!
Avatar m tn Do this as well, and you will get better sleep and improved breathing. Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
525545 tn?1293181194 m assuming you had a second sleep study done with CPAP to determine the correct pressure and type of mask--did your doctor's report state that your sleep quality significantly improved with CPAP? Typically, companies that provide you with the CPAP machine have a card with a microchip in it that monitors how often the machine is being used, for what period of time, and whether or not it is being properly used (via pressure measurements and recordings).
Avatar m tn This machine dries up the eyes and nasal passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. However pulmonary fibrosis cannot be due to CPAP use. Alternatively uses of CPAP mask in pulmonary fibrosis can cause claustrophobia like symptoms. Lung scarring occurs due to pathological deposition of fibrous tissue. This is a progressive disease usually and hence needs frequent periodic monitoring.
Avatar m tn Certain CPAP machines have setting the lower the pressure automatically during exhalation. Talk to your sleep doctor or DME vendor and they should be able to help you with these issues.
Avatar f tn My c-pap machine is a REMstarAUTO with A-Flex. It's a very good machine. I took the model with the humidifier because they air in winter is to dry not to have it. My only problem is that I have a nasal mask only and I should have get two! One nasal and a full face for when I have sinus infections (which is often with me!). I tried both but I prefer the nasal one. If you have a the chance ask if you can try diferent kind of mask before you make your choice.
Avatar f tn Cpap machines are a scam. Horrible contraptions that ruin health and break relationships. Big money is made selling these monstrous, ugly, humiliating machines. All of the companies want you to think that they are wonderful and your spouse will love it and it's great look. You will have a personal, intimate relationship with this machine that will become more important than your spouse. Your spouse will feel left out, betrayed and alone. Do not fall for the scam. Demand another option.
Avatar n tn In most cases this resolves nasal congestion and irritation if it is caused by CPAP. CPAP machines can cause air in the stomach-gas and bloating. Sleeping with head aligned with the body helps. If you want a raised head then the head end of the bed should be raised. Pillows should be kept to the minimum. Lowering the CPAP pressure can help but do not do this without consulting your sleep specialist. Switching over to bilevel pressure or C-Flex may help you too. So ask your specialist about it.
1572585 tn?1309245054 My nonprofessional opinion is that you should focus your efforts on making CPAP work. Maybe your pressure needed adjusting or you needed a different mask. It took me a long time to work the kinks out of things and get used to stuff enough to feel comfortable sleeping with it. Now I won't lay down without it - it is my "security blanket" because I know as long as I'm using it, I won't suffocate in my sleep.
Avatar n tn m almost to the point of just buying a CPAP machine on craigslist. But, your reply concerns me a little. Do CPAP machines *really* only help *some* patients suffering from UARS?? Is it only because most can't tolerate it? What if I get a BiPAP? I guess I'd like to get a an idea of a percentage of the UARS population that *can* benefit from the machine and whether a BiPAP significantly increses the chances that it will work (because it's much easier to exhale).
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP. I've noticed that in the morning when I wake up that I'm very bloated. Is it possible that I'm swallowing air from the CPAP? It's not gas. Also, I'm still soooooooooo tired when I wake up.
Avatar f tn Facial tissue is subject to the law of gravity and most masks are better fitted whilst laying down w/the PAP turned on at the set pressure or 10 cms whichever is highest. The MASK is the KEY to successful CPAP therapy once the needed pressure has been determined. At this point in time he should ask his doctor to script a one month loaner auto titratiing PAP such as a Resmed S8 or S9 AutoSet or a PR SystemOne or Respironcs M Series Auto PAP "with" heated humidifier.
559187 tn?1330782856 Yo, Julie. Another "hose-nose" here - I've been using my CPAP (mine is much like a BiPAP with exhalation relief) since being diagnosed with OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) three years ago and I wouldn't consider sleeping without it!! CPAP has actually saved my life! I say this because I have had very scary experiences before I got CPAP where I'd wake up not breathing and not be able to start breathing again.
Avatar n tn *on a CPAP machine. Not *in one. Sorry for the typo. You don't go *in a CPAP machine.
1193998 tn?1265117597 Hi try not to worry about CPAP i was the same as you claustrophobic i would get the nasal mask that way to start with get to use CPAP in the daytime to get used to it on face so night time is easy for you. All so what helped me was to have the RAMP low that makes it easy to breath also with the nasal mask you can sleep on your side.......You can ask me anytime just leave me a note i shall get back to you asap...Take Care....
Avatar m tn I tried several CPAP machines and half a dozen masks but was unable to tolerate them. Due to sinus congestion, I am a mouth breather and simply could not keep a mask on through the night. Recently visited a doc who does the pillar procedure. He saw the size of my uvula and suggested a uvulectomy along with the pillar procedure. After that is done he wants to scope my nose and see if he can get me breathing through my nose. Does this sound like a good course of action?
Avatar n tn Hi Thanks for writing to the forum! Well, sneezing and watery eyes can be due to a reaction to CPAP machine. This machine dries up the eyes and nasal passages which causes irritation, burning and sneezing. You can try a cold water humidifier to start with. If you already have a humidifier and your mother still experiences these symptoms you may need a heated humidifier. In most cases this resolves nasal congestion and irritation if it is caused by CPAP.
Avatar n tn ve tried to use CPAP for more than a year with no success, using full mask, nasal mask or nasal pillows with chin strap. They either keep me from falling asleep, or I can't get them easily reseated without leaks if I have to get out of bed during the night. I also have trouble keeping the headgear/chin strap in place even when it's correctly adjusted; it slips off my head. I have to over-tighten it; not only uncomfortable, but it irritates my skin. Have you tried CPAP Pro?
Avatar f tn s I have a cpap machine and there are no horror stories about it as long as you get the right mask to fit you you will be fine there is air blowing when you breathe in and out it is normal especially if you have a nasal mask I have a full face mask because I am a mouth breather and because I have oxygen going in mine I like the cpap good luck.
