Cpap leak rate

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap leak rate

cpap

Avatar f tn 10 years ago I had a spontaneous csf leak out of my right ear, had surgery, they placed a "bone & glue" patch. Neurosurgeon said the patch should last about 10 years which June 2010 is the month. Two years ago I did a sleep study and it was determined that I have sleep apnea, so I started on a CPAP machine. I haven't ever been really comfortable using it, I always wondered if it was too much pressure.

Make sure your leak rate is ok and that you are not losing your treatment air out of your mouth. If you are not leaking or mouth breathing, you may need your pressure increased a bit. Your provider should have the software to get more details about what's going on in your data. Ask them to get a detailed report and print you a copy and review it with you.
Avatar m tn But usually there should be a history of trauma for CSF leak to occur. Cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea (CSF leak) occurs when there is a fistula between the dura and the skull base and discharge of CSF from the nose. Detection of glucose in the sample fluid has been a traditional method for detection of the presence of CSF in nasal and ear discharge. But this is not confirmatory as it can show false positivity.
Avatar m tn I noticed I had gained over 6 pounds since starting CPAP. After just one night without the CPAP I dropped 3 pounds, which I believe is all fluids. My question is this: Could CPAP use cause your kidneys not to filter out fluids from your blood? When using CPAP I do not get up during the night to urinate. After one night without using CPAP I did get up to go to the bathroom, my weight dropped by 3 pounds and the pain is greatly reduced.
Avatar n tn I used the CPAP on auto mode with 11 to 18cm pressure with nose pillows. They did sometimes leak on to my eyes. Given I have not used the machine since February 2016 and my vision is still poor concerns me, but my optometrist says they are fine and my eye pressure is fine and a OCT was fine. They also gave me weekly demodex removal treatment and BlephEx. I think my LipiView score results for both eyes were within the 60's.
Avatar n tn There was a few weeks of data, and we changed from Autopap to Cpap with c-flex and a ramp rate on the same machine, with a nasal mask only. The little card in there showed an improvement on CPAP with the number dropping from 4 to 2 not sure what that number was, if it was number of detected disruptions or not. "Some people do have an inset jaw that narrows the airway, and that could make a difference with cpap." Yes, inset jaw, mildly.
Avatar m tn What I consider strange as well is that my respiratory rate is higher while sleeping than when I am awake. According to CPAP data my respiratory rate before falling asleep and after waking up is around 9 /min and during my sleep it's around 15 /min. I have understood that respiratory rate should go down when sleeping and also that 9 /min is considered slow. I had arterial blood gas analysis done and it was otherwise normal except my pO2 was 9kPa or 67 mmHg.
1767141 tn?1313678474 What is your Leak rate w/the CPAP and APAP. High leaks whether mask leaks or mouth leaks can interfere w/your PAP therapy causing the PAP to provider higher and higher pressure to compensate for the leaks. Were you provided w/an integrated heated humidifier w/your CPAP and APAP? Have you tried adjusting the humidity up or down? Have you tried Biotene (substitute saliva) for your dry mouth? Were you given or did you ask for a printout of the full data download from your CPAP and APAP?
Avatar n tn I've been using a CPAP machine for over a year now. I wake up several times a night - more than I did before having the machine - but often attribute it to just being uncomfortable with the mask since I generally do feel better and think that the quality of my sleep time is better. There are times, however, that I feel like I had been experiencing apneas and it makes me wonder whether the pressure is optimal.
Avatar m tn I have been using CPAP machine for over a yr. now and I have seen no improvement in my sleep. I use the nose pillow mask because of me being a side sleeper but I find me waking up with my mouth open and sometimes there is drool. Should I try a full mask to see if that would be any better for me?
Avatar m tn Last Monday I was taken to the ER by ambulance because this happened to me and it never happened before. I do use a CPAP but my mask had begun to leak. On top of that I have not been sleeping well due to pain issues. After a full workup it was determined that my palpatations were brought on by sleep deprivation. You should get yourself a CPAP if you don't have one. Talk to your doctor about prescrbing one for you. It will save you life. Good Luck.
Avatar m tn Recently, in a randomized trial in 55 patients, CPAP therapy for 3 months improved ventricular function and reduced sympathetic activity in patients with heart failure and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Likewise, CPAP therapy in OSA patients reduced daytime blood pressure and heart rate, and was associated with a significant reduction in left ventricular end-systolic dimensions and increases in ejection fraction." 287996 tn?1312023682 Hey chevy man. I've seen you around here for a long time. How about more details on the elevated pulse. How fast is it? and When does it occur? I too wear CPAP. I've used it for the last 6 years now, and it no doubt has saved me from an early, painful demise as I had very severe obstructive sleep apnea. Prior ro getting on it, I had been waking up with a pounding pulse in the middle of the night. It wasn't SVT (which I had), but an elevated and pounding pulse.
Avatar n tn I was told that you correct it with a CPAP or variant of. I understand this, but what is causing this to happen. I had two sleep obstructions, four nuero, two mixed, and 29 hypopneas. I never went into Deep sleep NR3 or NR4. It recorded I had zero leg movements, but I kept popping off the leads on my legs from moving them. Venting aside, what is the path I must follow to get the underlying cause answered? Since childhood I have many symptoms of Narcolepsy and other sleep Disorders.
Avatar f tn I think a doc who uses this kind of screening prior to surgery would have a very high success rate for correcting the real problem. Unless, of course, they are in cahoots with the CPAP machine producers/sellers? maybe get a "kickback"? any comments or suggestions are highly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Ive been living with a high PVC rate (20-30%) for about a year and half and diagnosed at same time with left ventricular non compaction. EF about 45-50%. EP suggested Flecainide and I was on it briefly before 1st ablation and it knocked down the PVCs however as didn't want to have to take flecainide forever especially with a non normal structural heart I moved forward with ablation. It was unsuccessful.
Avatar n tn There is clear and recognized link between MS and sleep disorders --- at least some types of sleep disorders and especially when MS lesions are present in the brain stem. MS can definitely cause a type of sleep apnea called central sleep apnea. I'm wondering if you have that and if it might be why you need bi-pap instead of CPAP. Do you have trouble exhaling against the constant air pressure of CPAP (if you ever used it, of course)?
Avatar n tn If due to atrophie of muscles from surgery, which is expected some I guess, or just age? Is the treatment still to take care of apnea with CPAP or would something else be needed ??
771990 tn?1341779376 I have an Interstitial Lung Disease. (Hope I spelled that right). I used a CPAP machine for a short time and then it was changed to a Bi PAP machine. I have only had the Bi PAP 2 nights. Night One- I woke at 3:30 am with a very sore throat and the pressure from the machine was making my throat burn, so I had to take it off. Night Two- I woke up at 2:00 am (last night) with uncontrollable sneezing. The amount of stuff I was blowing out of my nose was ridiculous!
359574 tn?1328360424 I so wanted to avoid a CPAP machine. I have an appointment Friday afternoon to see my MS specialist neurologist and his psychologist for additional testing and to go over my new MRIs, SSER, and the like. Now I get to go back the same night and do another sleep study to see how well a machine helps. When I had my first appointment, he asked what symptom I had that bothered me most. I said the weird paresthesias.
559187 tn?1330782856 I just got a call from my ENT who ordered a sleep study for me a couple weeks ago. She said that I need to do another sleep study and be put on CPAP as my results showed medically significant apnea. Ah ha, no wonder I am so tired all the time. I was hopeful that this time the apnea would still be in the mild range and i could avoid having to go to CPAP. I agreed with the doctor to try the CPAP and see if it will help.
Avatar f tn I can't wear the CPAP mask or the mouth piece even though I have both obstructive and central sleep apnea where my oxygen levels go down to 60%. I had a carotid artery dissection stroke about 5 years ago with continuing disabilities. I am concerned about the risk of having another stroke which has a greater chance of mortality and poorer rehab.
