Cpap leak

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap leak

cpap

Avatar f tn 10 years ago I had a spontaneous csf leak out of my right ear, had surgery, they placed a "bone & glue" patch. Neurosurgeon said the patch should last about 10 years which June 2010 is the month. Two years ago I did a sleep study and it was determined that I have sleep apnea, so I started on a CPAP machine. I haven't ever been really comfortable using it, I always wondered if it was too much pressure.

Avatar m tn But usually there should be a history of trauma for CSF leak to occur. Cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhoea (CSF leak) occurs when there is a fistula between the dura and the skull base and discharge of CSF from the nose. Detection of glucose in the sample fluid has been a traditional method for detection of the presence of CSF in nasal and ear discharge. But this is not confirmatory as it can show false positivity.
Avatar m tn I noticed I had gained over 6 pounds since starting CPAP. After just one night without the CPAP I dropped 3 pounds, which I believe is all fluids. My question is this: Could CPAP use cause your kidneys not to filter out fluids from your blood? When using CPAP I do not get up during the night to urinate. After one night without using CPAP I did get up to go to the bathroom, my weight dropped by 3 pounds and the pain is greatly reduced.
Avatar n tn I used the CPAP on auto mode with 11 to 18cm pressure with nose pillows. They did sometimes leak on to my eyes. Given I have not used the machine since February 2016 and my vision is still poor concerns me, but my optometrist says they are fine and my eye pressure is fine and a OCT was fine. They also gave me weekly demodex removal treatment and BlephEx. I think my LipiView score results for both eyes were within the 60's.
Avatar f tn ve found that using a fully data capable CPAP, one that allows ME to access my therapy data each morning encourages me to continue w/CPAP therapy even when I am having difficulties as the data helps to point out what the difficulties are - most often just too high a leak rate. I've used and been happiest w/the Resmed S8 Elite, then the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and then the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto when I needed to be switched to a bi-level PAP due to my COPD.
Avatar n tn I've been using a CPAP machine for over a year now. I wake up several times a night - more than I did before having the machine - but often attribute it to just being uncomfortable with the mask since I generally do feel better and think that the quality of my sleep time is better. There are times, however, that I feel like I had been experiencing apneas and it makes me wonder whether the pressure is optimal.
1323747 tn?1364806882 I started on CPAP 5 days ago for severe sleep apnea and am noting I am waking up with a headache and increased blood pressure which was 148/93 this morning. The actual machine I am tolerating all night. It is set at a pressure of 9 with a flex of 2. I am using a nasal cushion, heated water, and note no problems with my sinuses. Checking the machine's information section it shows Apnea/hypopnic events at 8.6/hour which is a huge reduction. What could be causing the headache and raised BP?
Avatar m tn I have been using CPAP machine for over a yr. now and I have seen no improvement in my sleep. I use the nose pillow mask because of me being a side sleeper but I find me waking up with my mouth open and sometimes there is drool. Should I try a full mask to see if that would be any better for me?
Avatar m tn Last Monday I was taken to the ER by ambulance because this happened to me and it never happened before. I do use a CPAP but my mask had begun to leak. On top of that I have not been sleeping well due to pain issues. After a full workup it was determined that my palpatations were brought on by sleep deprivation. You should get yourself a CPAP if you don't have one. Talk to your doctor about prescrbing one for you. It will save you life. Good Luck.
771990 tn?1341779376 I have an Interstitial Lung Disease. (Hope I spelled that right). I used a CPAP machine for a short time and then it was changed to a Bi PAP machine. I have only had the Bi PAP 2 nights. Night One- I woke at 3:30 am with a very sore throat and the pressure from the machine was making my throat burn, so I had to take it off. Night Two- I woke up at 2:00 am (last night) with uncontrollable sneezing. The amount of stuff I was blowing out of my nose was ridiculous!
Avatar n tn I have used CPAP for 2-3 months, there appears to be little benefit, I switched from APAP?, the automated pressure version, to a constant 12 with the machine releasing pressure when breathing out (C-flex), this was with a Respitronics machine.
359574 tn?1328360424 I so wanted to avoid a CPAP machine. I have an appointment Friday afternoon to see my MS specialist neurologist and his psychologist for additional testing and to go over my new MRIs, SSER, and the like. Now I get to go back the same night and do another sleep study to see how well a machine helps. When I had my first appointment, he asked what symptom I had that bothered me most. I said the weird paresthesias.
1767141 tn?1313678474 What is your Leak rate w/the CPAP and APAP. High leaks whether mask leaks or mouth leaks can interfere w/your PAP therapy causing the PAP to provider higher and higher pressure to compensate for the leaks. Were you provided w/an integrated heated humidifier w/your CPAP and APAP? Have you tried adjusting the humidity up or down? Have you tried Biotene (substitute saliva) for your dry mouth? Were you given or did you ask for a printout of the full data download from your CPAP and APAP?
Avatar m tn 00am..i put the mask on and mess with it so it wont leak..once i get it taken car of,..i fall asleep within 15 min or less..if ur apnea then you know that the 1st 90 min is ( rem) sleep..then within 2-3 hrs you get to level 3 stage..then stage 4.. well i never seem to get to stage 4..i never did on my sleep study..about 30 min there..ur suppose to get at least 4 hrs in the deep stage 4 sleep is the deepest sleep..thats were you really get rested..then you start to move back to 3.2.

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
Avatar n tn since using cpap machine started swelling in feet, ankles, hands and stomach. stopped using machine for 4 days swelling went away. started using again for 3 days swelling came back.
Avatar f tn I finally was sent for sleep study and DX with severe sleep apnea and PLM. Cpap has helped this alot. Even with Cpap still fatigued at work where I was still falling asleep talking to people and still driving issues. Currently on large doses of Adderall and Pravogil to help me stay awake. The Pravogil has helped some but the rest of the stimulants seem to be just candy. No effect. ? narcolepsy/hypersomnia but still testing and trying meds.
Avatar m tn I'm thinking by "breather" you are speaking of a cpap machine. It could be that your therapy needs some adjusting for it to be effective. I'm going to list some common issues to troubleshoot. If you are not using a full face mask, could you be mouth breathing? Doing so causes all your therapy to go out your mouth and result in still suffering the health effects of the sleep apnea, including daytime sleepiness. Is your mask leaking too much to be effective?
Avatar m tn ve lived my life in a state of exhaustion, until use of my cpap machine, and that has often caused very bad seizures. Without my cpap machine, I don't think I'd be here making this post.
