Cpap headgear straps

Common Questions and Answers about Cpap headgear straps

cpap

Avatar n tn My doctor recently suggested I try a product called CPAP Pro because I can't tolerate headgear/mask systems. I'd like to hear from anyone who's had experience with it. I've tried to use CPAP for more than a year with no success, using full mask, nasal mask or nasal pillows with chin strap. They either keep me from falling asleep, or I can't get them easily reseated without leaks if I have to get out of bed during the night.
Avatar n tn I am a new CPAP machine user. I have a humidifier on my machine. I am doing very well after only one week with the air pressure but I awake a couple of times each night because the steam condenses in the hose and water drips in my nose! So I have to get up and empty water out of the hose and back into the humidifier. My throat gets really dry without the humidifier. Also, my headgear slips off. So I think I need a different one. Any suggestions for either issue? Thanks!
Avatar f tn The bow would then curve around and protrude from her mouth and be hooked to these straps with elastic bands. The straps would go over the top of her head and around her neck. We were given an example Facebow to hold but i could see she was very uneasy and i know this may sound stupid but we did not even want to hold it, let alone have it worn in her mouth... She has been very withdrawn over the last week, and we go next week to start with her braces fitting.
Avatar m tn Do this as well, and you will get better sleep and improved breathing. Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.

1218873 tn?1300091216 Ok - so I went for the follow up appointment at the sleep apnea clinc and they have given me a humidifier for the Cpap machine, so hopefully this will reduce the dryness. They also read the SD card which had been recording the pressures that I had required over the last 3 weeks. They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.
Avatar n tn Some machines record treatment data that reports how well the treatment is working for your apnea. Also, if you are on CPAP, some masks have straps that are too tight around the lower back of the head and hurt the muscles of the neck that connect the head and shoulders.
Avatar f tn I've been on a CPAP for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm sleeping relatively well with it, 7-8 hours per night. Almost every day since I've had the CPAP I've had headaches. The headaches don't start when I get up, but rather a few hours later in the day. Earlier this week I saw my doctor for a check up and told him about these headaches, and he said they were real and probably caused by pressure on the brain.
568603 tn?1240404035 Treatment for sleep apnea involves CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) CPAP uses a small mask held onto the nose by straps, and has pouches that insert into the nostrils. The mask is connected to a motor that regulates the amount and pressure of air sent into the nose, exerting pressure to keep the nasal passages open. The pressure is determined by polysomnography.
Avatar n tn Is there any chance the mask headgear has a strap that could be affecting the muscles in the back of the head and neck? If so, you may want to try a different style or totally loosen that strap and make your own out of a long strip of soft cloth that is wider and not so impinging in a small narrow area. I couldn't tolerate anything tight around the back of my head/neck due to bulging disks, so my straps are totally homemade and I just wrap them and tie them in the back.
Avatar m tn Having open nasal passageways is important if you want to eventually benefit from sleep apnea treatment options, especially with CPAP. Once your nose is open, give CPAP another try. There are many ways of gradually adjusting to using CPAP. Another option is to use a formal mandibular advancement device that's made by dentists (not the boil and bite over the counter anti-snoring models), but you have to have the right anatomy and severe sleep apnea patients don't respond as well.
Avatar f tn However, the 2 titration studies I had seemed to have been focused on apnea; the CPAP pressure used only reduced my RERAS to 12/hr hour, and the sleep fragmentation was worse than my diagnostic study. I have used CPAP faithfully for 3 months, trying every setting from 5 to 9 cm. None of these pressures restore my sleep - I am waking every hour or so and feeling as tired as ever.
Avatar f tn I also hope Tysabri goes well and am thrilled your CPAP therapy is going well. My darned straps are tight too. Leave marks on my face for a couple of hours after I take the mask off any looser though and it leaks air so what's a girl to do? :-) I have seen some deer, tons of squirrels, a skunk or two and a gopher.
Avatar m tn I too had difficulty with my cpap at the beginning, even quit for a few months. Turned out my pressure was not right for my needs. Any chance you have a strap going around the back of your neck that could be pinching a muscle and/or impinging a nerve thus causing this tingling? Getting used to it is probably not going to make a difference in the tingling. That would be my first thought, but I would also want to know my machine is meeting my needs.
Avatar f tn I'm with Selma here -- it's probably time to get checked for apnea. Many of us with Chiari have it. Mine is so much better post-decompression. I have a C-PAP machine but can't use it because I can't stand the pressure of the straps on my scalp -- too much nerve damage from my surgeries...
529159 tn?1224991026 ll give the CPAP machine a try but am worried about how it might bother my face and jaw...having something on it all night long. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn Hello, You can be allergic to the material of the mask of the CPAP machine. If allergic to silicone, try a mask made from materials like synthetic rubber or vinyl. Several masks on the market now are made out of gel-like material. Nasal pillows are another option. Instead of wearing a triangular mask, the user inserts into the nostrils two small flexible pieces (shaped somewhat like mushroom caps) that are attached to a plastic adapter that is in turn attached to the tubing.
359574 tn?1328360424 My extreme fatigue is being chalked up to the sleep apnea, which I hope the CPAP will fix. It will also cure my high blood pressure, impaired fasting glucose, obesity, nighttime urinary frequency, wrinkles, zits, dull hair and yellow teeth, and give me the ability to tap dance and play the piano. The paresthesias, and my urge incontinence and constipation are being attributed to the damage in my c-spine, which is permanent. Good thing the symptoms are slight.
Avatar f tn I just received a new pressure (8) on my humidified CPAP, and I'm having a big problem the minute I get up: tickling to actual burning when the air hits my nasal membranes, runny nose, and constant sneezing. When my machine was set at 3, this happened a couple of times a month, - I blamed myself, thinking the CPAP hadn't been properly cleaned. But now I clean it in hot soapy water every day, and the problem is every single day! Do any of you have this problem?
Avatar f tn can a headgear help with chronic tmj disorder or a splint if i don't want to do tmj n jaw surgery ??
967168 tn?1477584489 I saw the sleep specialist yesterday and he said the back of my throat seems to be narrowed and since I had my tonsils out as a young adult the next step is for a CPAP machine. If that doesn't work then he would do surgery and take out the thing that hangs in the back of the throat (?) & shave the back of the throat. Anyone ever have a sleep study done? I'm going this weekend to have mine done.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I have a CPAP machine on a months trial, this is one that varies the pressure as required it records the information on to an SD card so when I return to the clinic I will then be given a machine that has the correct fixed pressure. I have a full face mask as I could not get on with the nose only one. Now my problem is I wake in the middle of the night with a very dry mouth (i mean completely dry) my mouth has ballooned with air and the mask is vibrating against my face.
Avatar n tn There are two possible solutions: move to one of the new mini CPAP masks. Second use Refresh PM ointment in both eyes at bedtime and Refresh or Systane ULTRA artifical tears on awakening.
Avatar f tn ve found that using a fully data capable CPAP, one that allows ME to access my therapy data each morning encourages me to continue w/CPAP therapy even when I am having difficulties as the data helps to point out what the difficulties are - most often just too high a leak rate. I've used and been happiest w/the Resmed S8 Elite, then the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage and then the Resmed S8 VPAP Auto when I needed to be switched to a bi-level PAP due to my COPD.
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Park, Thanks again for all the great information and interviews. I recently decide to go ahead with surgery for my UARS, so I really appreciate your interview with Dr. Li. I'm having sliding genioplasty and hyoid suspension. I am going to a major university medical center, I've met a doctor who shows a lot of understanding and concern, and I 'm pretty satisfied that I'm doing the right thing.
439553 tn?1210776816 I got the CPAP machine yesterday. It fitted fine in the office but when i got home, i had the straps for the head adjusted all the way down and it was too big. I called them today, and i am bout to leave to go swap out the head part. I will keep you guys informed. Thanks for your continued support.
Avatar f tn I have sleep apnea. I hate using the CPAP! I do not sleep any better with it. I wake up with my stomach bloated with air, or I wake up with an extremely dry mouth, or I wake up with air leaking out of the side of the mask... every night, not just some times. I tried two different masks to no avail. I am looking into surgery.
