Avatar n tn My doctor recently suggested I try a product called CPAP Pro because I can't tolerate headgear/mask systems. I'd like to hear from anyone who's had experience with it. I've tried to use CPAP for more than a year with no success, using full mask, nasal mask or nasal pillows with chin strap. They either keep me from falling asleep, or I can't get them easily reseated without leaks if I have to get out of bed during the night.
Avatar n tn I am a new CPAP machine user. I have a humidifier on my machine. I am doing very well after only one week with the air pressure but I awake a couple of times each night because the steam condenses in the hose and water drips in my nose! So I have to get up and empty water out of the hose and back into the humidifier. My throat gets really dry without the humidifier. Also, my headgear slips off. So I think I need a different one. Any suggestions for either issue? Thanks!
Avatar f tn My husband uses a CPAP machine and for 5 years was very compliant. He began having trouble with the mask cutting into the bridge of nose. He has tried different masks, nasal pillows; I think everything that is available. He cannot get a good seal with any of them except the one taht cuts into his nose. Bandaids have not worked. Does anyone have a suggestion to protect his skin without compromising the seal. We would greatly appreciate any input.

1580703 tn?1651904887 I'm using a full face mask with my cpap machine and can't keep it on for more than 1 hour a night. Does anyone know how to keep the mask on all night and get a full night of therapy?
Avatar f tn t know which brand you used. I wear the ResMed Mirage Swift II. The headgear comes with an often overlooked key component. It's a small piece of Velcro which is used to secure the headgear's hose to the side of the headband This stabilizes the nasal pillows and prevents them from being leveraged off your face when you move about. I love mine as it allows the headbands to be loosely fastened, so the pillows are just resting on your face.
Avatar f tn I've been on a CPAP for 2 1/2 weeks. I'm sleeping relatively well with it, 7-8 hours per night. Almost every day since I've had the CPAP I've had headaches. The headaches don't start when I get up, but rather a few hours later in the day. Earlier this week I saw my doctor for a check up and told him about these headaches, and he said they were real and probably caused by pressure on the brain.
Avatar f tn I just started using my CPAP with a swift nasal mask 3 weeks ago and you just described my systems to a tee. I am miserable. I have been taking Sudafed when I wake up and it has helped but I can't do this forever. There must be a simple solution to this problem that so many users are experiencing...
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with OSA about 2 years. For all this time I am struggling with the cpap machine/mask. I got over the embarrsement/discomfort but still having problems that make me not use it. I have a good machine with humidfyer. But I get so bone dry in the mouth-tongue that it wakes me up.(no moisture to even swallow) I have tried different things but guess I am still mouth breathing with mask on. I have a full faced Mirage Quattro mask.
Avatar n tn Hello, You can be allergic to the material of the mask of the CPAP machine. If allergic to silicone, try a mask made from materials like synthetic rubber or vinyl. Several masks on the market now are made out of gel-like material. Nasal pillows are another option. Instead of wearing a triangular mask, the user inserts into the nostrils two small flexible pieces (shaped somewhat like mushroom caps) that are attached to a plastic adapter that is in turn attached to the tubing.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Ok - so I went for the follow up appointment at the sleep apnea clinc and they have given me a humidifier for the Cpap machine, so hopefully this will reduce the dryness. They also read the SD card which had been recording the pressures that I had required over the last 3 weeks. They were quite suprised at how high they were. But also found that the machine was set up for a nasal mask not a face mask.
Avatar f tn can a headgear help with chronic tmj disorder or a splint if i don't want to do tmj n jaw surgery ??
559187 tn?1330782856 I just got a call from my ENT who ordered a sleep study for me a couple weeks ago. She said that I need to do another sleep study and be put on CPAP as my results showed medically significant apnea. Ah ha, no wonder I am so tired all the time. I was hopeful that this time the apnea would still be in the mild range and i could avoid having to go to CPAP. I agreed with the doctor to try the CPAP and see if it will help.
Avatar f tn Second which seemed less common was the need after her braces are fitted she would get something called a headgear. To be honest, when i saw the picture she was shown, i was needed to her in the chair I felt very uneasy. I kept a brave face asking all the right questions but i could see poor child, her eyes were glassy and wanted to cry. She was shown a metal object called Facebow that would be inserted into her mouth and held in place with bands and tubes on her back upper teeth.
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Park, Thanks again for all the great information and interviews. I recently decide to go ahead with surgery for my UARS, so I really appreciate your interview with Dr. Li. I'm having sliding genioplasty and hyoid suspension. I am going to a major university medical center, I've met a doctor who shows a lot of understanding and concern, and I 'm pretty satisfied that I'm doing the right thing.
956292 tn?1334054869 Hi, To answer your question: No I haven't heard of the sleep study for MS. My MS specialist and neurologist KNOW I experience pretty severe fatigue and they never once mentioned to have a sleep study done. (they don't know I had a sleep study or that I use the CPAP) forgot to mention it to them... I had a sleep study done back in April, before my MS symptoms began...(I was dx with asthma.... the pulmonologist asked if I had fatigue or did I snore..
Avatar f tn So right now I'm seeing this weird blur that kind of looks like a heat mirage thing. Its mainly my right eye and its kind of feels dark if that can be described as a feeling. Its the second time I have seen this. Last month my thyroid medication was increased from 5 to 25 and just yesterday it was decreased to 12.5 because I was having symptoms showing it was too much. My eye is also starting to feel and see a bit better after about 10 minutes.
Avatar n tn The other night I was sparring at my boxing club, we all share the same sparring gloves and headgear, my question is during the match I sustained a small cut on the inside of my lip, there is clearly old blood on the outside of the gloves, could I get HIV or Hep C from the old blood coming into contact with my face, eyes cut

332074 tn?1229560525 I know that they are going to put me on a cpap machine. I know I would do okay with the mask that is just the two little prongs that go in your nose. However in the past when I have had surgery I have gone crazy when they have put the mask over my mouth and nose. I have always had very bad allergies and can not stand to have anything touching my nose and mouth. So I was wondering how do they determine what is the best mask for you to have?
Avatar n tn My wife uses a cpap machine with moisture every night. She has had two bouts with pneumonia this winter which she never had before using the cpap machine. Questions: Can breathing in excess moist air into the lungs by means of the cpap machine overload the lungs with moisture and cause problems?
Avatar f tn Shhhhhhh - your brain and body are listening. Give yourself some positive self talk, such as... I can do ANYTHING for just 30 days. Sleeping in my own home and bed will be nothing like in that lab. I'm going to take advantage of this change to get 30 days of real quality sleep. I'm glad that CPAP increases my likelihood of a good surgical outcome and recovery. I'm glad the next 30 days I will be at reduced risk of heart attack and stroke.
