Common Questions and Answers about Cpap device noise

cpap

Avatar f tn t fade for hours from my mask! Also the noise from my own breathing makes it almost impossible to fall asleep. The nurse is coming back tomorrow to try to fit me with a better mask. I have been reading lots of reviews and am not being very incouraged by them. I slept in the spare room yesterday and my husband said he came in and said the air pressure was very noisy! I am getting really depressed over this. I have panic disorder and this is difinetly not helping. Please can you advise me!
1555684 tn?1294434646 It is the size of an Ipod. I guess they insert a device in the neck and the device sends an electric impulse to the tongue to prevent obstruction of the airway. sounds great hope it works.
Avatar m tn These, ususally gentle, movements wake/keep awake my wife. I am asleep and do not notice. I use a CPAP device to control sleep apnea. I have multiple medical conditions ( I can provide details and medications) which are under control. This is a life long situation I am finally trying to address.
Avatar f tn hazyworld, some are able to effectively treat their apnea with a dental device, but not everyone. Have an honest talk with a reputable provider about your chances of it working for you. They are designed to pull the lower jaw forward, and some complain of pain or have TMJ trouble. But some are willing to do anything to avoid using CPAP. I didn't like CPAP at first either. Are you on oxygen because you aren't using CPAP or with a CPAP?
Avatar m tn I was completely unable to handle cpap as it induced vertigo (a problem which I have intermittently), and sharp pains in my ears. I worked with the doctor and even on the lowest settings I had problems. I tried an oral device, but I have severe TMJ and it was too painful. I tested for oxygen desaturation this week and it went down to 88%. The doctor is offering me oxygen. I realize this isn't a replacement for cpap, but given my situation, could this be at all helpful?
Avatar n tn The most common treatment and arguably the most consistently effective treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device. In addition to CPAP, a dentist specializing in sleep disorders can prescribe Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT). So please contact your doctor if you have not done it before so that treatment can be started. Regards and God bless.
Avatar f tn How do I avoid swollen eyelids every morning after sleeping with CPAP? This discussion is related to Swollen eyes & CPAP.
514349 tn?1272801633 I have other sleep problems, but I have not yet had to go to a CPAP. I understand if I wish to go to a CPAP my doctor requires I do another overnight in hospital (or other sleep study center) CPAP test to determine the best "settings" for me. So far I am CPAP free.
Avatar m tn I am a 42 year old male who was just diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea with snoring but is intolerant of the CPAP. I am currently using an oral devise which forces my forward. I would like to to know if sleep apnea directly related to heart disease can it be reversed with the start of a CPAP or an oral devise?
Avatar n tn I suffer from anxiety/depression. I use a C-PAP device, but still must have window open (if in winter) to sleep. I sleep best with moving air. When the air is completely still at night, I feel panicky. What can I do? My psychiatrist only prescribes medications.
Avatar m tn It may be difficult initially to get used to the CPAP device. You could start by trying them for very short periods and then increase the timing as you get more comfortable. You could also request for lower pressures from your doctor and gradually increase the pressure and this may help. You could also try different masks and see which are more comfortable for you.
Avatar m tn The data does warrant your making a maximum effort to use the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device effectively. The diagnosis will be more certain if and when you are consistently able to use the CPAP effectively, with relief of symptoms. The best recommendation we can give is that you work closely with the sleep lab technical staff in an attempt to make yourself more receptive and better able to cope with the CPAP discomfort you are now experiencing. Good luck.
Avatar m tn t found a device that does all 3. It would be nice to have a device that would catch arrhythmia just in case that's an issue). I don't know what other questions to ask. Help!
Avatar n tn You know, my husband also has a missing bone between sinus and brain. Just a small fragment and no one knows why but it was after sinus surgery when they informed him of this. There is something about the consistency of egg white that separates them. Kind of freaky. Anyway, this is a good question for your doctor. I wouldn't think this should be an issue but you'd want to make sure you have just the right pressure setting for your cpap device.
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The typical course of tinnitus involves habituation over time, people tend to get used to the sound. Otherwise, treatment for tinnitus lies in treating the underlying cause. Sometimes "white noise" may help suppress the sound so that it's less bothersome using an electronic device. They are white noise machines, hearing aids, masking devices and tinnitus retraining with a training device. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
479581 tn?1317757488 I don't know a whole lot about it. My ENT suggested it as a possibility and I'm researching before my next appt. with her. Here's what I know.... It is a device that fits in the sort of like a hearing aid. It uses a masking noise to retrain the brain so that you don't hear the tinnitus noise. Search "neuromonics device for tinnitus" on the internet. There are lots web sites that can explain how this works way better than I can.
Avatar m tn I am 55, severe obs sleep apnea- non compliance CPAP, now growth hormones came at severe critical low level at stimulation tests// Insuline tolerance test and Glucagon stimulation test done on two different days. already taking Synthroid, for thyroid, belly weight. weakness, tired, confused, blurry, center head pain. sleep is not sound. cortisol is also not normal with glucagon stimulation test. IGF-1 is low. Can I be a candidate for growth hormone replacement therapy with immediate effect.
Avatar n tn I have sleep apnea and was using the cpap machine but used it only once cause i could not at all sleep with a mask on my mouth and I could not aford to pay for it. So I returned it ,but now i cant sleep and during the day at abut after 12 noon i feel really tires and headaches and very sleepy . So i take caffine pills everyday to stay awake. I know taking pills is no the answer and I should be using the machine. My question is is there any other way to cure my problem with out the machine.
679466 tn?1247006054 I have mild obstructive sleep apnea. PO2 only drops into mid 80's sometimes, mostly low 90's, but overnight polysomnogram says I have 13 apneic events per hour. I've tried O2 overnight (used neighbor's) and PO2 stays in the high 90's. Is that a sufficient treatment?... or do I need the positive pressure of CPAP. I've tried the CPAP and I've completely failed. Mostly keeps me from sleeping well unless I'm on Ambien.
541196 tn?1293552936 If you are having a lot of apnea (stopping of breathing) they may put the CPAP mask on that night. CPAP feels very weird, but remember, this is all about finding out what's wrong with you and trying to fix it. They can tell a lot about your sleep and diagnose many different sleep problems. It is great that you are going to get this done. Many people go for years without realizing there is a physical problem causing them to be tired.
Avatar n tn d be happy to knuckle-down and lose 25 pounds if it would spare me a CPAP device to sleep with. My other problem is age... everything is wearing out.
Avatar m tn I too had difficulty with my cpap at the beginning, even quit for a few months. Turned out my pressure was not right for my needs. Any chance you have a strap going around the back of your neck that could be pinching a muscle and/or impinging a nerve thus causing this tingling? Getting used to it is probably not going to make a difference in the tingling. That would be my first thought, but I would also want to know my machine is meeting my needs.
Avatar n tn You should definitely give the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device a fair trial. You also need to have further discussions with the sleep specialist, about his/her impressions of your symptoms. Is that specialist willing to attribute your symptoms to a sleep disorder? If not, then the most likely explanation is that most, if not all your symptoms, are on an emotional basis and you should pursue that possibility.
Avatar n tn s less bothersome using an electronic device. They are white noise machines, hearing aids, masking devices and tinnitus retraining with a training device. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
479581 tn?1317757488 I have had tinnitus 24/7 for the past 2 years. The noise is continuous and doesn't pulsate. It seems louder in my left ear. My ENT wants to discuss a neuromonic device at my next appointment. I had an MRI which ruled out a tumor as a cause of the tinnitus. My audiology tests revealed a slight sensory neural hearing loss in my left ear. What is your opinion of using the neuromonic device for treating tinnitus?
Avatar f tn Anyway should i not be wearing ear plugs using a cpap? And or should i discontinue the cpap until the ear infection is gone? Or is maybe the machine just set entirely too high? Like i said the machine forces me to sleep in minutes and also for the duration of the ear infection i wont wear ear plugs. Would this cpap issue have the ability to be fatal?
