Avatar f tn Hi, Complex sleep apnea is actually a combination of both obstructive and central sleep apnea seen in some patients. Patients with complex sleep apnea at first appear to have obstructive sleep apnea and stop breathing 20 to 30 times per hour each night. But unlike typical obstructive sleep apnea patients, their breathing problem is not completely alleviated by a CPAP (continuous airway pressure) machine.
Avatar n tn Both are great sites with lots of experienced CPAP users giving out some great advice. I also participate in the www.apneasupport.org site. One of the more common reasons given for swollen eyes is an air leak. This also means that the pressure is not optimal, and he's not getting the full amount of air pressure into his lungs. Another reason is pressure by the mask on the face, preventing venous outflow from the eyelids.
Avatar n tn You are posting this on the cardiology forum, and I am not an expert on CPAP. However if you have any episodes of OSA, you are at higher risk for sudden cardiac death, and you need the CPAP to diminish the episodes of hypoxia that are driving you rbc production. But what you really need is to loose probably 70-80 pounds, as this is the cause of the OSA.
Avatar f tn My friend's company replaces his CPAP supplies whenever he asks. They give you instructions on how to keep it clean. Obviously nobody wants to do it, but there are consequences. Otherwise they would let you do it the easy way. Now you have unexplained lung nodules, so you will have to get a biopsy to find out what is going on. Nobody here can help you.
Avatar f tn I'm a little confused about the maternity leave in CA. I know you get 6 weeks paid leave at like 55% of your normal income. But my MIL was saying that I can get up to 12 weeks? Would the additional 6 weeks be from the state disablity insurance? Unfortunately my job doesn't offer benefits at all. I have been there full time for more than a year. So i know i can qualify.I doubt 6 weeks will b enough time to bond with my baby.
Avatar m tn I am a 32 year old male diagnosed with sleep apnea, so I was given an auto-pressure CPAP machine. Just as soon as I started using the machine it felt like I was struggling to exhale. The sleep company representitive said that the machine starts out using the lowest possible pressure, so I shouldn't be having a problem. I tried to use the machine for a couple of hours and I had the sensation that I had to take off the machine and struggle for breath, as I can't seem to exhale.
Avatar f tn Hi, from your history it suggests that you are having Sleep-disordered breathing. It is important to rule out type of sleep apnea like Obstructive apnea, Central apnea and Mixed apnea. You need to undergo tests to rule out the type of apnea. Few of the tests include Apnea index, Apnea-hypopnea index, Respiratory disturbance index, Desaturation and Arousal index. It can be initially manged by supplemental oxygen.
Avatar n tn Wow, talk about having an "in"! Don't know what she is or is not able to do, but getting a cpap machine may be a problem due to liability issues and it being a "by prescription only" medical device. But if a doctor ordered the trial, maybe her discount would make it affordable. If you try a machine, it would need to be an auto titrating data capable machine with a data card for you to learn anything from your time using it.
Avatar f tn I got a cpap machine back in 08 after being diagnosed with sleep apnia during the process of getting a lap band. I never really used the cpap and kinda put up with the apnia. The last few days the apnia has been unusually bad and i actually had a seizure from it saturday morning so i went ahead and used the cpap saturday and sunday night. The level i beleive is set at 18.
608104 tn?1352587153 In reply to KatEyes, thanks for suggestions about the settings of this mysterious equipment. I am now on a trial of an auto-pap. The settings are 7 inhale, 5 exhale with a high pressure limit of 13 mmHg which is more helpful. The current specialist is leaving and a new pulmonologist arrives late September. Recently my primary physician added NiaSpan to lower cholesterol which has an interesting side effect; I can dream and remember my dreams.
Avatar f tn do you have a rising vca igg numbers over a period of time? If so, there's Dr montoya at Stanford and Dr Kogelnik in Sunnyvale. They're gonna want to see your lab results.
Avatar m tn d better hurry, I am losing my company provided (retired) health insurance which I am NOT ALLOWED TO KEEP, like so many others. My sponsoring company as at least offered some financial help in going to the insurance exchange for my Medigap coverage. I lose prescription and dental along as the company gets out of sponsoring retiree health. I bet this will save them bundle, may help them pay the high corporate taxes that exist in the USA where they are incorporated.
Avatar f tn well, unless my symptoms have to do with asbestos exposure as my brother was exposed as well as my dad when they worked at the plant where they made the asbestos insulation after the company shut down the plant out in texas cause of the issue of asbestos exposure and so the company just moved the product to port allegany,pa where my dad worked and got my brother a job there til the plant laid him off there..
Avatar n tn I have just got a CPAP machine and have had 3 nights with it. I've had sleep apnea for many many years and finally did something about it. My questions are for those who've been through the "getting used to it" process.
1285653 tn?1288358629 Today I went to a home healthcare company to pick up my CPAP machine since I was dx with sleep apnea last Thursday. whoo-hoo. It is truly my hope that sleep apnea is causing all my symptoms of memory loss, dizzyness, fatigue... However, should I still see the chiari specialist. Dr. Di. My appointment is next month so my CPAP will have been being used for 30 days so I should know if my symptoms have settled. It is a six hour drive from my home so it is always a two day trip.

Avatar m tn If you have confirmed sleep apnea, than I completely agree with being treated with CPAP. However, I do NOT agree that you should necessarily be treated with Ca channel blockers despite your encouraging response to nitric oxide. I''m not saying that you certainly should not be given this medication but this is a medication reserved for a select group of PH patients and I suspect that you do not fit into that category. 3.
Avatar m tn I had heard that there are consequences of being "officially" diagnosed with Sleep apnea. Such things as inability to obtain life insurance, or be "rated" even if your Apnea is "controlled" by the use of a CPAP machine etc. Is this true? Are there other seconday consequences of having an official medical diasnosses written down into your medical record?
Avatar m tn The data are from studies involving patients with chronic HBV infection who were treated with REP 2139-Ca in combination with immunotherapy and /or entecavir (ETV).
Avatar n tn I just read about a case in CA where a state board ordered an insurance company to pay for a medication that made a patient better. I don't recall the name of the board, but it has something to do with regulating insurance companies in the state. Search the state website to see if you can find it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I know that in the US it is a law that they can't fire you because you are pregnant. Now I did research for your state and its the same just about everywhere that unless you request accommodations because of the pregnancy like a smaller work load or to sit they can or cannot accommodate you. If they do it automatically and try to make you working there hard you can contact the department of labor.
Avatar f tn Welcome to health care in America...I still shake my head at those who compain that we shouldn't have healthcare for all Americans and ridicule other countries. I've seen the good and bad of this issue for over a year. So don't worry...vent! You have every right to....you are in the most wonderful country in the world...minus healthcare equality. Companies, out for profit, run things here...plain and simple.
Avatar f tn He is CORRECT in being worried about going thru the pain of surgery for little to no benefit. Stanford in CA is the leader in the field. They do NOT go in and do all the surgeries at once. The surgeries are done in stages. The least drastic first. If he has a deviated septum, deviated enough to consider surgery, that often allows for more successful CPAP therapy by allowing freer, more comfortable breathing thru the nose.
Avatar m tn ventricular function significantly improved after 3 months, associated with a relative 81% risk reduction for mortality or cardiac transplantation. Recently, in a randomized trial in 55 patients, CPAP therapy for 3 months improved ventricular function and reduced sympathetic activity in patients with heart failure and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
