i called the nurse, she spoke with my doctor and he says that the cozaar is for my kidneys..

There was a recent thread on this forum regarding fibrosis regression and blood pressure drugs (specifically Cozaar, Losartan, etc. the ARB class). If you look back over the past month this thread should be available. There are a variety of related comments in the thread. I got on Cozaar for my tx induced high BP specifically for this reason! I had read studies about Cozaar being beneficial for ED, Fibrosis, and depression...

Cozaar belongs to a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. This keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow and reduces the risk of strokes. It is also used to slow long term kidney damage in Type 2 diabetics who also have high blood pressure. Potassium Iodide is not used as a diuretic.

I think after this month, that will be 3 months on losartin(cozaar), I will see how my blood work is then add vasotec to the cozaar wait 3 months check my blood work and make a decision on dropping cozaar for vasotec. It was first published as far as I can see that losartan reduces fibrosis in 2000, that sure seems much to long a time lag between discovery and clinical use and I'm sure it is that way across medicine.

If you look at old forum threads on Blood Pressure and TX, you will find that many people develop high BP, Metabolic Syndrome, Thyroid problems, and even autoimmunity after doing tx. The BP issue seems to appear in many right after getting off of tx. Search for old threads and you will find lots of info on this subject. Personally I think that the high BP that appears for a group of us after tx may come from the development of a degree of autoimmunity.

s advocate, I want to be armed with good information before we talk to his primary. He presently is not taking the Cozaar or Plavix and I am worried.

Just wanted to know if losartan(Cozaar) is the best option for an alcoholic with gout and high blood pressure? Of course, the best scenario would be to completely delete alcohol out of the equation, but it is not an option at this time for the person involved.

They initially wanted to put me on Lisinopril, but I was on that previously and I had a terrible, nagging cough the entire time. I've read that ACE Inhibitors are preferable to ARBs, though, when it comes to CHF. Should I try another ACE, or would all of them be likely to cause a cough since the Lisinopril did? Or is the Cozaar good enough? (Some places even suggest taking an ACE along with an ARB...is that a good idea?) Blood Thinners: Should I be taking one?

Both medications are angiotensin II receptor antagonists which will relax the blood vessels and lower BP. As to which will work best for you, that's up to your cardiologist. It's not unusual to try one medication to manage CHF only to find it's not doing as well as expected, then try another med.

My MD put me on Hyzaar for hypertension. Previously I had been on Cozaar but she changed it to Hyzaar for the added benefit of the diuretic. I noticed my drug company autosubbed generic Losortan. The bottle doesn't say anything about hydrochlorothiazide being included. Could I be getting the wrong thing, or should I assume some form of hydrochlorothiazide is included?

I opted for the RAI (3 months ago) and I take cozaar (6 months now) and in these last 3 weeks I am suffering from muscle fatigue, muscle cramps if I stretch them too quickly or exercise them. Could the cozaar be causing the problem or is the disease the problem or both?

For the past week or so there has been a couple of times where I feel very weak and my hands start to shake. I know it means my blood sugar is low so I will try to hurry up and eat something. I tested my blood sugar this morning and it was 105. Would you say this is out of the normal range. I had blood work done about a month ago when I had my annual physical and my sugar level came back at 109. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed.
