My guess (note guess) would be that when you laugh, your diaphram and/or lungs create a localized abrupt jarring or jostling for a brief moment that may cause the stray pathway to conduct creating your arrhythmia. I've had plenty of shock/vibration induced SVT's caused by landing flatfooted on a hard surface, or by perhaps sneezing or coughing.

I have the same issue. I stop smoking cigarettes when it start shorten my breathe. I can't laugh or talk without coughing so much I feel as if I'm going to throw up. I do have mucus. I also can feel myself wheezing whether laying down or standing up. I'm constantly out of breath.

Another possibility could be a pinched nerve in the chest, along one of your ribs. This type usually occurs after a fit of coughing or a blow to the chest. Finally, this pain could be due to a nerve being pinched, where it comes out of the spinal canal. X-rays of the spine can usually give a clue to this cause.
For the moment, you should give this pain time to spontaneously go away, and in the meantime, try to hold your chest with both hands over the site of the pain.

I did read that sinuses can be affected with a thyroid issue...I too have nodules and the cough....if I laugh , I cough...sometimes it causes me to gag to the point I vomit...so I am always saying, don't make me laugh.....not sure if this is what u r talking about.
Okay, I've been fighting a cold for over a week now and have been coughing a lot. I have these episodes where I experience a sharp, stabbing sensation at the base of my throat. This triggers a virtually uncontrollable coughing spell which lasts for about 3 minutes or so. The more I try to fight the coughing, the worse it gets. During this cold, I've been getting these attacks about 5 or 6 per day--usually in the mornings.

Yes I feel the pressure when I laugh, cough, sneeze, bend over, or try to run.
You should consult with your father's doctor without much delay. There is no doubt in my mind that your father has pulmonary edema. Evidence is it happens when lying down as gravity causes fluids to fill the lung tissues. Sitting up reduces that circumstance. Also, a dry cough is another indication.
Those exact symptoms your father has put me in the hospital for several days 6 years ago with congested heart failure and mild pulmonary edema.
