for multiple years now I have had a cough after I eat or drink anything it gets worse when I'm stressed out and or when I drink alcohol.it is non productive for the most partand positioning only helps a little bit.the problem is, it's starting to get really bad again and with my job as a firefighter I'm coughing more and using up more of my air bottle.
I do tend to always have stuff in the back of my throat that i notice when i swallow. idk if that's post nasal drip or what but it's always there. i clear my throat a lot too i eat fresh light foods usually to prevent it from being bad afterward. thanks for your response. i might look into seeing a GI dr since it's aggravating my chiari.

Cough meds, bronchial dilators, Asthma meds., steroids when necessary, etc. Respiratory Diseases cause coughing....Asthma & Bronchitis are treated with the same meds as Trachea Collapse. This is more of a dry cough with wheezing at times or both....With this, sometimes the Heart shows enlargement, but it is not a Heart Problem! It's from lack of oxygen through the respiratory system.....Steroids are useful as needed for allergy season that can be a trigger.....
It only lasts for a few seconds, but it's scary and embarassing. I am a businessman and often when I talk on the phone I get to coughing and have to hand the phone to someone else. Each year that passes, the cough gets worse. The tests show that the most normal thing about me is my lungs. It seems that sinus drainage or food or saliva sometimes goes down into my bronchial area when there is no logical reason for it.
Every time I eat or drink anything I begin coughing and am unable to stop for about 20 to 30 minutes. I do cough and sniff a lot of the rest of the time which I guess is from post nasal drip. I take claritin for allergies all year. I do not have any respiratory symptoms like heartburn. I am terribly embarassed to eat around other people which is impossible to avoid. I have very mild asthma and my pulmonologist sent me for a swallow test.
that seems to be getting some better, but every time I eat...I sort of get a cough...that I dont have any other time...and get this feeling I'm gonna throw up. Sometimes, I do, and then I feel fine and the cough disapears again. I dont eat too much or too often(2 meals a day-every 12 hours) and the more I eat seems to make it worse. I'm confused as to what is going on???
for several months, it seems when I eat, especially breakfast, if I talk after I swallow, I start coughing as if I am choking. it seems a small particle of food gets inhaled? is this possible, and why does it get keep happening, especially after I swallow completely?
i am a smoker and ive been smoking for about 6 months. i never cough while im smoking or afterwards. i can go hours with out coughing, but when i do cough it only lasts a few seconds. ive tried robutusin and that didnt work. my breathing is normal there is no tightness in my chest im not weezing and im able to still work out and take deep breaths and i dont have asthma. i talked to a pharmacist and he said it should go away especially since i dont have any of those symptoms.
My doc explained that when I am in an inflammatory state with my lungs they get inflamed and push my diaphragm down. Then when I eat the stomach pushes the diaphragm up causes me to feel like I can't expand my lungs. Hope my little bit of info helps you find some answers. Feel better.
I am lactose intolerant and anyone reading this post may be too. I didn't think that I was because I don't experience bloating or discomfort when I eat dairy, but I do get the mucus /phlegm in my throat and I was constantly coughing up stuff -worse at night. Apparently as we age, many of us lose the enzyme that breaks this stuff down. Try this. Go to the drug store - Buy some lactaid. Take it anytime you eat something remotely dairy.
I have been to the doctor several times over coughing, taken bunches of medicine, when the medicine runs out I cough again. I have sinus drainage, allergies (for which I have had two years of shots), my nose isn't clogged and I do not have sinus headaches, occasional sinus pressure, nothing bad. The past several winters I get a "viral infection" and I cough, mostly at night, I get this a couple of times a year, late fall and mid spring.
I do know if it is Asthma, but when i have a long conversation i start coughing every sentense or so, Any ideas?
after more than a year you would think I would stop coughing! I still cough, not as often or as severe, but when I start, I go on and on until I feel as though I am choking. This usually happens when I either am talking or eating, and yes it is embarassing. I really do not know what to do. The only thing that stops the cough is Codiene and of course, none of my docs want me to take that on a regular basis. What else is there?
The cough isn't constant, and Dixie likes to dig in dirt and eat pine-cones and sticks [which I pry from her mouth when I can]. I was told just to watch her and see if it continues, or if it gets worse. Otherwise, nothing to be concerned with. Her check up is due in July, and unless something changes, vet said we can just look into it then.
I would cough until my head hurt and my throat hurt. It's hard to eat when you're coughing, I've had chest x-ray that was clear, lungs are clear. I've had blood work, it was fine. I've gone through antibotics, steriods, four bottles of cough syrup and nothing helps. I take a nexium every morning and I am taken one at supper time now to. Sometimes it seems to get bettter and I don't cough much and then it hits real hard and that's all I do. What do you think my problem is??
I actaully know how you are feeling. I was in the same boat about two weeks ago. I am 18 wks pregnant and my coughing is still going on even though the appetite and rest of flu symptoms are gone. I did see my doctor and he told me that I could take Tylenol for the aches and pain, plain sudafed for the the congestion and plain Robtussin for the cough. The Robtussin helped but the cough is lingering. They also told me the recommend me getting a flu shot this year.
I have been taking antihistamines before bed and it seems to help calm my cough. I have a rather difficult anxiety problem when it comes to doctors so I try to home remedy what I can and only see drs if totally necessarry. Is there anyone who can help?
For the past 8 months or so, I have been gagging pretty violently after everything that I eat. I don't feel sick or anything, and it doesn't really matter what I eat. I eat, I start caughing, and gagging, and then I feel fine again. If, in the rare situations, I actually do get sick...I start spitting blood, and my nose bleeds. But, I have told this to many doctors that have all brushed it off like it isn't a big problem, which doesn't seem right to me.
make half a glass of onion juice and warm the juice, add ginger powder and honey, and drink it slowly. This will help the cough. Do not eat banana when you have cough.
All my tests have also come back negative and I am still unable to eat. The only thing I can digest is bread (mainly white ) and I drink Ensure to try and keep nourished. I have also become lactose intolerant which I was a huge dairy eater before. The doctors seem to have no answers and I am frustrated and don't know what to do next. Have had endoscopy, colonoscopy, stomach and esophagus samples, Chrones etc Any advice?
My daughter has always coughed a great deal when eating and seems to cough until she brings up a plug of mucus. She also has the same fits of coughing when crying. Occasionally she'll throw up because of it. We're at our wits end because we've done so many tests and haven't yet found the problem.
i have been dealing with a chronic cough for over 8 months;now lately when i laugh hardly triggers a coughing episode that lasts anywhere from 1 hour to 15 minutes;this just started last friday which i ended up in the emergency room;what stops the coughing episode is the medicine ativan 0.
I have been diagnosed with GERD 4 years ago. When I had my first bout of coughing I happened to come in contact with someone who had bronchitis and then I got it. I was put on antibiotics and slowly the bronchitis went away, but then a persistent cough always happened after I ate. Anything. a snack like a banana, a bowl of oatmeal, a full meal...
After I eat, I cough up mucous until I regurgitate my food. When I don't eat, I cough white foamy mucous. What can I do?
Sometimes I cough so much I end up vomiting everything I ate. This problem only occurs after I eat. The rest of the day I feel just fine. This problem started back in November after I was ill. It eased up late December/early January. Then this past Friday as I was driving down the road, I smelled something that set me on a coughing fit. Ever since, I've had this problem again. Any ideas? Suggestions?
it is a wet cough and is worse when I eat, sometimes cough up clear liquid... still short of breath and have chest pains. I think I'll make an appointment to see my dr... it's difficult for you with a young child as he can't really explain all his symptoms. I think you should take him back to the dr or at least phone and ask their advice.
It seems that whenever I go to a restaurant to eat -- five to ten minutes after I am done eating -- I end up coughing hard to the point that it feels as if I am going to throw up. I have a black pepper allergy - and make sure to speak with the executive chefs to assure that nothing has it in it. I also have been diagnosed with acid reflex as well as my throat spasming when I swallow food. I have spent a lot of time fixing my diet at home.
You'll find there is more dairy in foods than you realize. OR take it whenever you feel the sensation in your throat.
