coughing up phlegm from lungs

Since about the second or third week post quitting I started coughing up this weird white/gray phlegm that has a terrible, bitter acrid taste that coats my mouth and back of my throat almost like an oil. Similar to bronchitis sputum but not green or yellow. There's no tar in it, no black bits, and it's always a small amount but it's once a day, every day. Usually after I eat. I hate it, it's disgusting and I'm not sure why it's still coming up! Anyone else?

I sometimes cough and then cough up green phlegm. I have had upper gi and colonoscopy. It did show a hiatal hernia. I don’t know where this green stuff is coming from. Had anyone else had this problem? I especially get it when I workout.

coughing phlegm from lungs for the past six months, have taken antibiotics with no results, did take predrisone together with SPIRIVA 18 mcg and ADVAIR 500/50 for the past month. Still coughing up phlegm and have limited lung capacity. Any suggestions comments.

Is it normal, or usual for a heavy marijuana smoker (numerous times daily for 6+ years), to be coughing up clear phlegm with dark gray/brown globular matter encased in it, mainly in the mornings and randomly in small amounts throughout the day? In the mornings there are much more dark pieces in clear phlegm, and when it randomly happens throughout the day, it is just small specks or chunks encased in clear phlegm.

have had chest infection for 5 weeks and coughing up phlegm for at least 2 hours every day..i have taken 2 lots of antibiotics and now on other medication...

sound like your lungs are clearing and you may have bronco or asthma or something see your doctor some times when you stop smokeing this happen.

and when it seems to be setting down it moves in to the lungs flaring back up into bronchitis with coughing that would last for weeks. It will completely drain you and leave you weak and lightheaded. A number in our area that picked up the virus, were weakened to the point of contracting secondary pneumonia. Your symptoms sound similar, bad news is I have seen this run it course from 4 to 10 weeks. It is nasty, especially for those with pre-existing lung problems.

Hi not sure if anyone will know this but worth a try, i have smoked for 41 years mostly roll ups with no filters or anything, but about 3 plus years ago i started putting filters in and after a few months started coughing up green phlegm i asked the doctor he just said getting older and smoking, Some days it seems worse than others its really strange, i don't smoke load about 15 a day but there dead thin and i only smoke half at a time.

I also have the dripping nose and coughing up phlegm after lap band surgery. It is not an allergy--the nose dripping is gustatory rhinitis. I'm not sure if the coughing is related. It started for me less than a year after lap band surgery. I wish I knew if the coughing up phlegm is related. Apparently my sinuses make gastric fluid--could it be possible that my lungs also do? Couldn't that be harmful to my lungs?

All pet scans are clear and x-rays clear still I have a cough that sometimes is that of a heavy smoker. Coughing brings up clear mucus. Other than this cough I feel great. Any suggestions on how to take care of the cough?

I have the same problem whenever I have phlegm. It's so difficult to get rid off. Even if I stop coughing I can feel the phlegm still existing inside my throat.

The smoke itself temporarily immobilizes the cilia (little hair like projections in your lungs) that sweep away all the junk and mucous from you lungs. What happens then is that the mucous will collect/pool in your lungs setting them up for infection in the first place. Some lucky people who smoke don't get COPD, but other unfortunate souls who are genetically predisposed for it will.

Occasionally (3-5 times per day) I have had a very deep cough and I cough up a lot of phlegm from my lungs. I have had this for over 3 weeks now. In hindsight I probably did not heal because I have been training and not resting. I would ride 1 day, cough up a lot of phlegm and not feel great the next day, wait 2-3 days, feel just fine again and get back to training. Since it is winter, sweating in the cold air probably didn’t help much either.

the brown phlegm is probably old blood... which sounds about right if you are on blood thinners (hence bleed easier and longer). Have you been coughing a lot? the lungs are quite vascular so maybe it's just from irritation? Are you sick as well??

The condition will cause a violent dry cough, choking, feeling of not getting enough oxygen...some relief when not lying down, but sitting up. I had mild pulmonary edema, severe edema must be the same as drowning! Pneumonia is the inflammation of the lung tissues and coughing phlegm would be an expectation, but edema is a dry cough.

I had a high fever, and muscle soreness. Then I started getting congested, so I went to the doctor. They checked for the flu, and took a chest x-ray. They said both looked fine. They put me on antibiotics because my phlegm was discolored. My fever left, and muscle ache's. Now I've been coughing up phlegm. I have been exposed to airborne asbestos for 7 hours at a building site. I use an inhaler to reduce inflammation. When I stop using it my lungs get in flamed and I usually cough up a long fibre as if its in my long and been striped off. The sensation is sore. When I go back to inhaler my lungs get up green phlegm. I d'ont understand all this~~? Can green phlegm remove asbestos fibres from lung or is it just white phlegm.

Anyway, rust colored phlegm could be the result of old blood down in the lungs if you are coughing it up. Typically it is nothing to worry about but once in a blue moon it could be tuberculosis which requires medical attention. Doubtful that you have TB but you could check with your doctor to be on the safe side. For phlegm and mucous, it helps to double your intake of liquid to keep it loose and flowing. Try not to use a cough suppressent as it is better to have it moving.

Also ive been coughing up a lot of phlegm since i moved out especially at night is this too a lingering side effect.

If you are coughing up yellow phlegm you have developed a drug resistant infection and need to go back to your physician immediately.

Do they have to be looking for a specific disease to catch it or can you simply see that the lungs are good just from looking at the image?

Cough started ti come back a little early December and got worse, until I am back to frequent coughing and spitting up phlegm. No seasonality to coughing. Sorry for the lengthy description but I find it difficult to function and thought giving as much info as possible would help..

Hi, Can you please advise me for phlegm, I have been suffering from excessive phlegm and bad cough, it gets worse in the night after I go to sleep. Phelgm gets stuck in my throat and having difficulty breathing. The phlegm is not so dark, it is in whitish color. I have seen my Doctor, he prescribed me Amoxicillon 500 mg, benefryl cough syrup. but look like it is not helping. Please advise.

It made me feel better, however, after using up all of them, I noticed that I am still coughing up mucus/phlegm and I hear a slight vibrating sound in my lungs when I lay down. I need to know, is this just residual stuf that my body is getting rid of??
