coughing

The cold eventually went away, but since then I have been consistently coughing up clear phlegm 10-20 times a day. Usually, it's just small amounts, and I cough it up to try and clear my lungs and throat. I went to my doctor about a month ago and he performed a lung function breathing test and checked my blood oxygen levels and said that everything was normal. So he prescribed Nasonex which I have been taking for about a week, but it doesn’t seem to have made much difference.
I've been expelling a white frothy substance from my lungs quite constantly from day one since I quit. However, today i'am coughing up something else. Its encased in the phlegm very small pebble like balls that are dark in color. A lot of it seems to be coming up. Is this a sign of COPD or something worse? and or is this normal for a person who has quit smoking, if so, when should I go get this checked out if it doesnt stop within the next 2-3 weeks?
I am seeing my GI this week but was just wondering if anyone else had this with treatment? Is it normal for side effects to hit 3 to 4 days after shot on Friday? I seem to feel achy and headaches on the weekend and then come Monday I start with the sweats and I cant eat if I eat I get sick to my stomach. I dont feel better until about Thursday and then here comes Friday shot time again.
Since we are talking about coughing. I had a few questions of my own. I have had issues coughing for the past 4-5 years. I caught constantly. Sometimes it makes my headache worse but sometimes I don't have a headache so it doesn't bother me. I do have sinus disease as per my MRI. So that explains the post nasal drip. I always have problems coughing whenever I am near or around water. for example I cough so much in the shower that sometimes it will make me throw up or gag.
As you have had the persistent cough now for 3 weeks or so, I suggest you make an appointment to see your doctor to examine your throat and lungs and do a lung function test. If the doctor feels your cough is as a result of a bacterial infection, he will prescribe an antibiotic for you. Having a cough is the body's natural way of trying to get rid of an irritant, whether this is a virus or a bacterial, dust particles, irritation by smoke and fumes etc.
for the last 6 weeks or so I’ve been coughing up this very nasty tasting, thick brownish to a light yellowish color phlegm. It’s similar to what I coughed up for a while after I quit smoking but that didn’t taste this nasty. I’ve also been feeling very bad, ache all over with no energy like I’ve been down with the flu or something. I’ve also been breaking out in a heavy sour smelling sweat like it’s very hot in the room when its not.
She is sitting on my lap right now wheezing. She has been to the vet twice in the past 3 weeks for coughing up phlegm (white and some green) she coughs worse in the mornings, even just running down the hall or when she gets excited. Some days are worse than others sometimes she doesn't even need a reason to cough. She was put on 10 days of doxycyclin now she is one amoxocilin and has been for 3 days now.
been coughing for a couple of weeks little bit of fever very tired went to a walk in clinic a couple of days ago and the Doctor said it was mostly allergies gave me antibotics, congestion, cough syurp, nasal spray....this morning when I woke up I was coughing up blood in my phlegm the first 3 times then it cleared up....
i've never had any respitory problems . ever !!! 3 weeks ago i got a tickle in my throat and ever since then i've been coughing. nothing comes up when i cough. its dry. it feels there is stuff stuck in there but it does not come up with coughing. once in a while i bring up clear stuff and very little bit of it. i did 3 xrays and it came back clear. the doctor listened to my lungs and breathing and said its clear.
After the cold is gone, it is possible for the inflammation to linger. This inflammation can last for several weeks. Sometimes this inflammation may linger for 3 to 6 months. Eventually the inflammation will go away, and then the excessive phlegm will stop. This is called RAD and behaves a lot like asthma. This inflammation often clears more quickly when it is treated with an inhaled steroid medicine that is used to treat asthma.
i had not had coughs for at least 3 weeks prior to this. my blood pressure right after the incident was 181/110 .i am a diabetic butmy CBG at the time was 140 . i had TB over two years ago but was cured. i had a CVA bleed stroke over a year ago. i feel that it is not a relapse of TB. i suspect it is caused by the elevated blood pressure?
Ive been coughing up phlegm for the last 2-3 weeks now, which started right after I went on a 2 week period of heavy smoking (marijuana, I know it was unhealthy and dumb). I've showed no other signs of cold or flu, and just today I discovered a boil on my throat that I can see when I look inside my mouth in a mirror. Could this be cancerous or something really bad?
I keep getting this phlegm build up in the back of my throat. It's been happening for about 5 months now. It feels like it is building on my vocal chords. My nose and sinuses are clear. I'm not having any trouble breathing. Occasionally I cough it up from my lungs but it's mostly in my throat. Somedays it's light and other days heavy. It tends to get heavy after I eat. Sometimes it's difficult to clear my throat, I have to let it build up to clear it out. There isn't any color to it.
This last for about a couple hours and then I am fine for the rest of the day. (for a couple weeks, I did also have a coughing session for a couple hours in the late evening - this was not associated with the need to cough up phlegm; it was just a dry cough which seemed to make me wheeze slightly. I have had asthma since I was 3 years old; but it is usually never a problem. I have never had to be hospitalized for it and I do not need to have an inhaler with me.
I have had a cough for 3-4 months and i have been coughing up flegm. for about a couple of weeks, i have been having pain in my ribs (right side) so i need to know if I need to get this checked out or it could be something serious and should go to the ER. Thanks.
I have been keeping a journal and recording the times and amounts of phlegm. Most days were 3-6 times a day she expelled phlegm. After 3 wk elimination diet of wheat and dairy, expells phlegm 1-3 times a day so there is an improvement. She clears her throat and sound raspy a lot. She will cough phlegm at dif times of the day. Sinus xrays normal, no ear problems. Sneezes 1-3X almost every morn. Protonix for 3 weeks to see if GERD. Added a dry cough to prod. cough during this period.
By the end of it, she was coughing up phlegm 1-2 times for day. This may be a lung issue and not an allergy issue. Before I expose her to tons of radiation from a CT scan, I am exploring all other options. Has anyone experienced over production of phlegm white or yellow in color on a daily basis because of food allergies or other allergies? She sounds raspy and can feel it in her throat. She only gives one llittle cough and out it comes. She never has coughed at night.
i've had a cough on and off since september but the past 2 months its been worse and i keep coughing up bad phlegm recently it has been blood stained and i keep being sick when i feel the phlegm rising in my throat.i dont want to go to the doctors incase its just cold symptoms and im wasting his time.
I had this problem for about a month, and after i tried drinking 3 litres of water daily for 3 days consecutively, my phlegm thinned down and cleared off. I drank bottled mineral, cause when i tried distilled, it seemed to burn my throat instead. Gatorade and sweet drinks made me cough more. Perhaps it was the sugar. But in any case, plain bottled mineral water seems to work best for me. I drank about half a cup each time, constantly through the day.
Do you drink or intake lots of dairy products? I found that my allergy/sinus problems are greatly diminished when I abstain from drinking milk, eating ice cream, yogurt, and cream cheese. Also I have found recently that if I have an over production of yeast in my system that eating wheat, corn, sugar (natural or not) and other carbohydrates that feed the yeast inflame and cause sinus and mucus problems.
GI doc recently put me on Omeprazole and doubled it last week due to my constant feeling of nausea. for the past few weeks, I am having problems with phlegm. I can hack up a little some times but I have a full feeling behind my left sinus, ear feels full then down at the base of my throat. However, my mouth and throat are dry. ENT doc cannot come up with a cause. Dentist doesn't see anything although I now have an infected tooth on that side.
I have had cartarrh and phlegm for a good number of years and have an irritating cough when the phlegm builds up too much. The cough starts with a tickle and then It sounds like I smoke 60 a day! The cough rattles around and is keeping me awake more than it used to. I have tried Beconase spray, an inhaler which didn't work very well and catarrh remedies but nothing seems to work. I also suffer from Rhinitis and sore throat during the Spring/Summer months.
In December 2005 I started doing this thing where I had to yawn all the time, and it lasted for about 3 weeks. The thing is, I couldn't always yawn, so it felt like I wasn't getting what I needed, then it stopped. Two months ago, the same thing happened, except I got a lot of phlegm in the back of my throat, it was hard to swallow, and I had a bunch of "little" birps that always needed to come up.
After comparing how I felt Friday night and Saturday morning to how I had felt for the 3 weeks prior, I now don't feel like I'm giving up anything by not using. Somehow I went over a subtle bump in the road and now seem to grasp emotionally what I have intelluctually known for a long time -- that there are no "pros" on my list of "pros & cons," only "cons." One question: I frequently see in here the comment "keep an angel on your shoulder.
I can not do anything but cough and clear my throat (sometimes I clear it every 2 or 3 minutes). If the phlegm is too thick to cough up or just gags me, I have to swallow it again, which can cause even more gaging. I have been to my GP, and ENT doctor, with no results. I have tried just about everything I can think of. I am miserable! Any help is greatly appreciated!
I have had asthma since birth. for the last 7 years I have had terrible fits of coughing, most of the time ending in me vomiting to get rid of phlegm that is clogging my throat. It can get to the point where I will go 3 weeks vomiting once every two meals. Family doctors and walk-in clinics have given me the "take your inhaler" comment, to which I reply that I will take both my pulmicort and salbutamol as much as possible nearly every day.
MY 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS BEEN SUFFERING FROM EXCESSIVE phlegm and coughING for MONTHS NOW,SHE HAD HER TONCILS and ADNOIDS OUT LAST JULY,SEEMS LIKE AFTER THAT ALL THIS BEGAN A FEW MONTHS AFTER,SHE HAS A LITTLE BIT OF ASTHMA BUT I JUST THINK THAT IS THE PROBLEM,A ENT DONE A CT SCAN and SAID SHE HAD A POLYOP/CIST IN HER LEFT SINUS CAVITY BUT NOT TO WORRY BUT EVERYTHING IVE READ SAYS THAT COULD CAUSE REACCURRING SINUS INFECTIONS,IN DEC,SHE WAS IN THE HOSPITAL for DEHYDRATION,SHE coughED SO HARD AN
Her appetite is back and she is able to take a deep breathe again. She still is coughing up gunk but its less now than previously.
