Coughing up orange mucous

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing up orange mucous

coughing

I have taken prednisone and azithromycin in the past and never got orange tongue. Mine just showed up 3 days ago and I thought it was something I ate. The only thing different in my diet is I changed brands on 2 teas I've been drinking for years and started drinking Dan Active yogurt. Don't think that's the cause. No one else on this forum can pin point anything in their diet either. Tried the brushing and rinsing with peroxide, no luck. Sorry no words of wisdom.
00 AM with crackling sounds in my lungs, which turns into coughing and throat clearing for hours. This creates so much anxiety! NO doctors will help!! They said GERD may be causing it, but I've been on Zegerid, 40 mg., 2x day for a month, and this is only getting worse?! I went to a pulmonary specialist, lung function test normal, but yet these coughing attacks - the mucous goes down lungs and gives me ASTHMA! but every time these doctors check my lungs they said they're CLEAR!!@!
I use a low pressure air pump, such as the one used in Rinoflow, to blow down thick mucous in the back of my throat in tosil area and then expell or cough up the thick mucous. I did several times yesterday and worked well for me. I thought everyone here had suffered from the same thing as I had and thought everyone wanted a quick relief. You can do this as often as you need. There is no side effect.
It feels like all of my air passages become blocked with mucus and I have trouble breathing. Sometimes the coughing is so severe I end up vomiting or I often gag almost to the point of vomiting (It's very exhausting.) It doesn't seem to matter what I eat, and it happens pretty much after every meal.
Apparently fluid can seep from the back of the nose and go down the throat the brain reacts to stop the fluid going into the lungs which closes the voice box, this then stops you breathing, the brain then realises that the lungs arent working so wakes you up and that is why you wake up coughing and trying to get your breath, this is how it was explained to me. I have been told that it is not dangerous and that I will always wake up, it is just very stressfull.
like i said if you dont feel better in 2 weeks go back to the doctor.. or if you are coughing up orange bright green or rust coloured mucous or have sharp pains around the bottem of your ribs.. or if you lay down and can not breath then go to the doc asap..
If some of the muscous comes far enough down I can wipe it with a kleenex it is very thick and a deep yellow-orange colour. I also end up coughing after lying down and anything that I can get up in also a similar colour, sometimes with blood tint to it as well. That isn't that unusal since I have asthma and normally cough up muscous (usual colour is opaque white though), but this muscous feels thicker than usual.
Are you running any fever? Nausea? Vomiting? Diarrhea? When you cough, are you coughing anyhing up? If yes, what color is it? Clear? White? Green? Yellow? Blood tinged?? The most important thing is to stay well hydrated - really push teh liquids - if you don't feel like eating, don't worry too much about that, but it's VERY important to keep the liquids going. Popsicles or ice pops are good, non-caffeinated soda, gatorade type drinks (or other sports drinks), and of course water.
THE COUGHING SEEMS TO HAVE TAKEN OVER YOUR LIFE. THE MUCOUS THAT I'AM COUGHING UP IS SOMETHING I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. IT IS SOMETIMES MILKY, CREAMY LOOKING AND SOMETIMES I SPIT IT UP IN HUNKS OF WHITE STRINGY STUFF. IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. I'AM AT MY ROPES END WITH IT. WILL IT EVER END!!!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN TO DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN ANTIBOTICS, STERIODS, AND BREATHING TREATMENTS. THE DOCTOR TOLD ME THE REASON FOR THE COUGH IS THAT I'AM WHEEZING AND IT MAKES YOU COUGH.
I have been suffering from an unproductive cough, chest/larynx tightness, larynx-bronchi-lung hypersensitivity, mucous production and related panic. I have a history of acid reflux/GERD, including ulceration in the voice box, laryngospasms (VCD-type breathing 'attacks')and heartburn. Recently, I have been controlling the reflux quite well. Nowadays, I do not have obvious symptoms - I take PPIs (30 mg Lansaprazole per day), have lost weight and have a relatively good diet.
Hello again Tom, Coughing up "red mucous" could be due to a variety of causes--too many to list here without more information from you (other symptoms such as cough, fever, shortness of breath, etc). You might consider seeing your health care provider and telling them about your symptoms--and, they could perform a proper physical examination and order any indicated diagnostic tests. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical or legal advice.

When I am not at work for a few days, the coughing and palpitations seem to ease up. It seems that I am worse at work. I have a test next week to determine if I am allergic to penicillium -which was found to be the highest mold in July 2001 after the building had a flood in 2001. The bldg has been re-checked, and supposedly all molds are in an 'acceptable' range now. My meds are: prevacid...nasonex..livosten(allergy eye drops)..and a inhaler -which is not helping. I am a 36 year old Female..
He still has fevers, diarrhea, coughing, headaches, and his feels stuffed up. It has now been 2 months and he gets better then it comes back full force. He was diagnosed initially with whooping cough but after a second round of tests, which came back the same as the first set, we are starting from scratch once again. He is now going through a larger scope of blood work and stool samples. If nothing comes back from that then he is going to be admitted into the hospital for evaluation.
It stop the coughing, but the mucous still comes up. What it does is take off the stress of the coughing and you don't choke off of the mucous. I started taking 200mg three times daily and had to go down to 200 mg twice daily. It helps but the problem is still here. But I was really bad before to the point where I was ready to give up on life. So this helps a lot I guess. Now I'm suffering with numerous sinus infections and wonder if it's from taking the Benzonate.
Slowly bend forward as far as you can comfortably bend, and look between your legs at the crotch. Slowly stand up erect. Bend over and stand up again several more times to make sure, before you get in the shower. If you do get dizzy, see a doctor. You may have some blockage in your carotid arteries—the ones in your neck that provide blood to your brain. Figure out which direction you will be bending over in the shower. Preferably, it’s the side away from the shower head.
It drips to the back of my throat constantly and i'm constantly (50 or more times per day) blowing my nose and coughing it up. If I don't get it out....within 20 minutes or so I feel it at the back of my throat and have to cough it up. It's quite annoying in a quiet environment...Kinda embarassing. The allergist found no major problems. The ENT didn't find anything big either. They all put me on flonase, nasonex, etc...None of which really helped. Neither did saline solution. But see...
It is hard for me to go to sleep when it is swollen/tense. I end up staying up until I am so tired that nothing can keep me up. I always wake up in the morning and it is back to normal. I have tired drinking thinker drinks that kind of coat my throat..like milk and thinker juices. I also take a pretty warm bath to breathe in moisture....which really helped while I was in the bath. I'm just curious if this happens to other people and if anyone may know of any ways to soothe it?
When I am doing the throat-tensing exercises and am pushing the particles back up, I notice the majority of the time, the only thing being pushed up is thick mucous that lines the back of my throat, possibly resulting from post nasal drip. But I also assume the mucous lining the throat is natural in order to aid swallowing and prevent food from actually getting stuck and choking you.
1) A significant enough amount of exhaust molecules were trapped in the mucous in my sinuses causing the odor to show up. That's consistent with shallow breathing (picks up molecules out of mucous and allows enough time to smell them). 2) It comes and goes by the hour - may be related to the amount of moisture in sinuses.
Tuesday morning around 3am she started coughing and woke up, I layed her back down and she ended up throwing up. We clean everything up and lay her down and 30 minutes later she does it again without coughing. We clean up again and 10 minutes later she starts whining and throws up again, by this time she doesn't have anything else to throw up. Yoou could tell the day before she wasn't feeling herself because she didn't eat like she normally does.
I've always had pain in my stomach since I suffer from ulcers so didn't give it another thought. I am also coughing (moderately) and bringing up phlegm (brownish). In any event, the doctor immediately told me I needed to get a CT scan of chest and right sided lateral trunk with contrast. This is to rule out mass chest wall malignancy (cancer). As well as having several blood work done: ANA, CMP, CBC, RF, FBS, TSH, LFT.
whenever I enter a room with people or even pass by someone I cringe wondering if they'll flare up by sneezing or coughing multiple times, watery eyes, hiccupping, and scratching their nose. I have no other choice but to live with it and try to experiment on myself at the same time. I've learned a lot. I have become a very intelligent guy because of this. I've read probably hundreds of pages of myths, folklore, folktales, religious texts, medical journals from all over the world.
I'm breathing better than ever, not coughing at all, no red tongue, no swollen glands, maybe a small sinus infection, but I use sinus rinse, nasalnex and astelin occasionally. I am a smoker of 30 years and get winded trying to what I did 15 years ago these days. I'm down to about 5 cigerettes a day. I'm going through a series of steriod shots in my neck and lower back. I lost my taste and smell before that though.
It might also be that since we have candida, there aren't that many good bacteria, and it might be that all we need is good bacteria to combat these gases that are being produced. So we can't up our good bacteria just by taking probiotics, we have to have the environment in which they can survive and grow, a candida infested intestine is the reason they won't grow. This is what I'm hoping anyway.
by the way our bill is up to $10 000, and still no solution. Went to ENT today and he said that it is a mucus problem in the eustation tube, and no meds will help just time. Well it has been over a year!!!!give me a break!!!
At first I thought it was athma, but after many attempts of taking my inhaler, it continued unchanged. Some nights the noise is high pitched, others it is of medium pitch. I try coughing or drinking but the throat noise does not go away or even change it. I can tell it is not in my lungs, but in my throat. I can breathe shallow and minimize the noise but I feel out of breath then. My daughters say this wheeze is not my snore. They say I wheeze before the snore on intake and then exhale.
I am so glad I am not the only one for the last 8 months or so i get these awful flu/cold symptoms right about when i get my period or exactly one week before, I thought it was due to taking poor care of myself because I am a college student so I am always working and studying long hours and staying up all night writing term papers but it has only started this year its truly miserable my symptoms normally consist of - sore throat, nasal discharge, sinus headaches, trouble breathing, and conge
I do have occasional episodes during the night, usually if I've eaten close to bedtime, where the acid comes up and actually chokes me and I wake up in a coughing fit. Fortunately, those don't happen too often as they are most unpleasant! Lastly, as I mentioned before, it seems to be getting worse lately, and I now have episodes of dull pain in the pit of my stomach, or just feel really nauseas.
pain in UPRQ,gets worse when I lay on my right side at night, pain up under ribcage, sometimes up behind the shoulder blades, orange colored stool, constipation and gas. I've been on Prevasid, Donnatal and nothing helps. I'm thinking of trying to get a referral to another gastro doctor. I'm tired of having all these test and then they find nothing. Any suggestions?
