Coughing up nodules

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing up nodules

coughing

I had x-rays taken due to spitting or coughing up blood and wheezing and having a hard time breathing. I had 6 nodules in my lungs, all under 1 inch. I was diagnosed with GERD, and after the antibiotic this time, I continued with Nexium and morning and nite inhaled Advair. It was like magic with the coughing. I am so happy, This was my birthday present and the best one! Now after having had xrays/ct about every 4 mo. I have two of the small nodules grown to 1inch or more so very quickly!
I have had two CT's since surgery and my nodules keep growing and I keep getting more showing up. I have also shown some cavitation on one nodule. I was a smoker for 20 years and have quit for almost 10 months. I am also a hair dresser and around chemicals often. No history of family lung cancer. Has anyone had this type of surgery? I keep pushing myself but I still get alot of chest pain. Center chest, uppershoulder, shoulder and down arm, in back shoulderblade.
I have noticed I'm coughing more and also sometimes have a choking sensation along with all my other hypo symptoms. I'm on Synthroid at only 12.5 mcg dose because I have Prinzmetals angina and am 60 years old. I have to take this dose very slowly as my angina acts up if I take even 25mcg. Want your advice if you think I should have a biopsy now instead of waiting 6 months. Thanks for your help.
A nodule is usually a small, round shadow seen on chest x-ray anywhere in the lungs. Nodules are due to infections, inflammation, or tumors. Small nodules in a healthy 27-year-old male are almost certainly benign. As long as these nodules do not change in size, they would be of no concern. Nodules are common in certain parts of the United States. Fungal infections are a common cause of nodules in the southwest due to Coccidioidomycosis also called valley fever.
I would not worry - sounds like you doctor is right - beneign lung nodules - I also have many scattered nodules - and if these were going to kills me - I should be dead by now..........mine are also up to 7mm .... small nodules are almost always benign..........stop worrying and enjoy your life. Life is precious - we need to enjoy what we have ........good tidings - You are fine.........e-mail a response ......please.
It sounds like you may be suffering from LPR - its a type of reflux that affects the upper respiratory system - causing mucous to come up, coughing fits, one sided ear and sinus pain, etc. Please look it up, much of what you are talking about sounds like that (as I am guessing you have ruled out things like asthma, etc.?). The usual treatment is a PPI like Nexium twice a day and allergy type medications.
I am 41 years old non-smoker. During a scan of my left abdomen/colon (which ended up as IBS/constipation symptoms..I've had through) the X-ray revealed an 8mm non-calcified lung nodule in my lower left lobe. Then the doctor order a CT scan of my chest and the scan revealed a 3mm noncalcified nodule in my right lung..(the office that I talked to about the scan said something about it being oblong?..plan to call back for better detail).
He said they grew due to my coughing and on re-examintion the nodules resolved after treatment of prednisone, antibiotics and cough suppressants. I was exposed to second hand smoke as a child. I lived in the midwest as a child.I haven't any respiratory symptoms at this time. Does having more than one nodule increase my chances that these may be cancerous? Could the nodules on the lungs and vocal cords be related? Please help me.
steam, Guifenisen helps (Mucinex or syrup) bring it up (it's an expectorant, not a suppressant.) Receiving karate chops across the back may help break some of it up. There are a few supplements reported to help: Bromelain and n-acetyl cysteine (NAC). That said, it's *important* to read up thoroughly on anything that you are thinking to take. When I get colds, I tend to up my C & Zinc. You want to keep that "gunk" moving out from your lungs.
I've been dealing with coughing, choking, gasping for air these past six weeks. My first visit to a clinic I was given Benzonatate 100 mg to help loosen up mucous in my chest, and an inhaler for the times when my throat closed up and couldn’t breathe. The inhaler helped to breathe but these didn't make it go away. My physician gave me an another inhaler and cough medicine/codeine and made me sick, so I went to an ear, nose, throat Dr..
Only if they have grown would more testing be done to know what these nodules could be. When the nodules have not changed for 2 years they are considered stable and no further testing would be needed. Infections can cause inflammation of the airways of the lungs. When this occurs your wife may cough, especially when she is active or laughs. After the cold is gone, it is possible for the inflammation to linger. This inflammation can last for several weeks.
Hi, Flu season here, I got one too... have been coughing for weeks, went to hospital, got some pills, did an x-ray on my lung, x-ray indicates some scaring so the doctor ordered a CAT scan on my lung, it came back showing some nodules, I am scared to death, oh my god, I have lung cancer!!!!
I just found out about a month ago that my thyroid is enlarged with two nodules. One is 2.3 cm and the other is 1 cm, both on my right side. The left side has three nodules but are all very small. I'm scheduled with the endocrinologist at the end of Sept and am in the process of trying to get the biopsies set up now so that I don't have to wait until Sept to have them done. However, my question is actually referring to the dull chest pain that I've been having on my right side.
I laso have had a lump in my throat and find that I start coughing when I speak for very long or when I am not standing up. I told this to my endo who had a ultrasound done and found four small nodules. My thyroid seems to be of normal size (I keep finding conflicting information...if can be up to 5cm then yeah fine if it can be up to 4 then no...I am under forty and also under 5 foot :-) I am not getting a lot of communication from her office.
I've had a lot of stress over the last few months in which was so bad in July I seen a gastro Dr for my IBS acting up. He gave me pills to take that helped and when the stress eased some, I didn't need them anymore. I do have a appt. for a colonoscopy (due to prior polyps 18 yrs ago+) and a endoscopy because of this cough that at first I just thought was from smoking.
How does interstitial disease interact with the CF factor? How do nodules reduce in size? Does that mean the interstitial disease is gone? Why did my lungs get scattered small nodules and a calcified lobe? FYI, I contrated Aspergillous, Non Invasive T.B., and Serratia in '02 from a bone graft for the C5 area. Now, I am faced with many doc appointments concerning my lungs. I had a lung biopsy, but nothing was found.
The pulmonologist team said it doesn't look like cancer, and they ran all kinds of tests for infections but came up with nothing. They did an echo of the heart and was neg. They sent me home with an appointment at the pulmonary clinic in about 6 weeks. They want me to get a CT scan again a week before the appointment. Of course, I am scared to death, I am so scared that it is lung cancer, and feel terrible not really knowing what they are.
He just had his 6th month CT done. They said their were 2 nodules found in the upper lobe of one lung and 3 nodules in the lower lobe of the other lung. The nodules were not there 3 months ago. He has not ran a fever or felt sick. They said we should come back in Dec for another CT. That the largest nodule is 7mm., that it needs to be at least 10mm to show up on PET or to be biopsied. What are the chances of this being cancer, and if it is, what are the survival rates?
Apparently fluid can seep from the back of the nose and go down the throat the brain reacts to stop the fluid going into the lungs which closes the voice box, this then stops you breathing, the brain then realises that the lungs arent working so wakes you up and that is why you wake up coughing and trying to get your breath, this is how it was explained to me. I have been told that it is not dangerous and that I will always wake up, it is just very stressfull.
A week or two later, the green came back again with coughing. I was put on more antibiotics and prednisone. After that, I had one week of feeling normal, and then started coughing again, was out of breath with lots of clear sputum. I went to a lung specialist who did the breath test and a chest x-ray. He said I had some kind of obstructive lung disease but not sure what yet. He put me on albuterol, prednisone and foradil aerolizer.
Medicmommy- Yes you are right that I cannot take benedryl....last night my thyroid was still very swollen and I guess I kept waking up all night coughing. 7mm lobulated suprahilar mass, an 11mm nodule in the infrahilar region, and 2 other 5mm nodules on in the middle and lower lobes, and a couple of enlarged lymph nodes. There was also some septal thickening and multiple subpleural blebs. All of these are non-calcified and all are in the right lung. Her left lung didn't show any abnormalities. She had non been showing any symptoms of any kind, other than she has Asthma, and has occasional coughing and wheezing from that.

A week or so after the bronchoscopy during which time I had experienced slight pain/ soreness in throat, I started being unable to eat food, after a few mouthfuls, I am about to choke and am coughing a lot, I choke on drinking water too, and it takes hours for the coughing to subside. I couldn't cough out the water in my throat which seems to be stuck in mucus. A doc suspects myasthenia...God would indeed be cruel to give me both Myasthenia and lupus...
The other week I was eating some cake and somehow some of it went up my nose. I eventually got it down after snorting and blowing my nose. I didnt think too much of it until this week when the same thing happened again except I couldnt get the food down. The problem is now whenever I eat all my food keeps getting caught in my nasal cavity. My left nostril feels rather weird where it joins the bak of my throught, it feels like there is some sort of gap which wont close.
Doc found 2 nodules 4mm in size each i can't breathe good always coughing. Cough up black dark flem daily. On nebuluzer treatments. Doc says Bottom of both my lungs is scar tissue Wat does that mean?
which later could be managed but most of the motor functions got severely affected. Since then I am on follow up only as there was a pulmonary opacity in my right mid zone. which was continuously monitored /compared thru X- ray chest. Till now i am leading normal life with some complications in the voice quality due to ataxia .Since appx last 10 months I am having intermittent throat soreness with light cough some time with thin white mucus.
