Coughing up nasty tasting phlegm

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing up nasty tasting phlegm

coughing

For the last 6 weeks or so I’ve been coughing up this very nasty tasting, thick brownish to a light yellowish color phlegm. It’s similar to what I coughed up for a while after I quit smoking but that didn’t taste this nasty. I’ve also been feeling very bad, ache all over with no energy like I’ve been down with the flu or something. I’ve also been breaking out in a heavy sour smelling sweat like it’s very hot in the room when its not.
I am reading the comments and I can't help but wonder if this is what I have. I do not have any nasty, bitter tasting phlegm (which I would think would be necessary for GERD--like I even have a clue), but sometimes I do vomit after coughing. Eating, talking, drinking, laughing, all cause the coughing episodes, and it often feels like the mucus is in my chest, but when I cough, it comes up(and out) from way down my throat.
I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
Yes Mucinex is nasty tasting but the phlegm is worse.... I have to laugh my co-workers are teasing me about having a medicine chest in my purse but I have to be able to treat anything that might come up at work asap... so mucinex, benedryl, dayquil, bandaids, neosporin and halls it is.... as needed, Oh and the AD's and Vicodin or tylenol. I guess it is a medicine chest lol.
Doc, I can't stop coughing and am bringing up pus. Well, you're not alone. Millions of other people are in your shoes right now, and over 90 per cent of them have viral infections with coughs productive of colored phlegm. You should watch out for symptoms of pneumonia but if you have a fever under 100 degrees, pulse rate less than 100, less than 24 breaths per minute, and your doctor doesn't hear anything in your lungs, you can be reassured that pneumonia is unlikely.
I have neuropathy in my hands and feet which doesn't seem to improving, I have a sore neck and very nasty tasting phlegm in my throat, which affects my taste. I was treated for neck and throat cancer, which I have been told is cured Thank you for anything.
Slowly bend forward as far as you can comfortably bend, and look between your legs at the crotch. Slowly stand up erect. Bend over and stand up again several more times to make sure, before you get in the shower. If you do get dizzy, see a doctor. You may have some blockage in your carotid arteries—the ones in your neck that provide blood to your brain. Figure out which direction you will be bending over in the shower. Preferably, it’s the side away from the shower head.
AFTER READING YOUR POST THAT SCARES ME THAT YOU HAVE MORE DRAINAGE AND COUGHING AFTER YOUR SURGERY. DO YOU GET TONS OF MUCUS IN YOUR THROAT AND COUGH ON IT ? I ALSO COUGH UP OUT OF MY CHEST REAMS OF STCKY MUCUS IT'S AWFULL. I HAVE LUPUS ALSO SO THIS HAS REALLY BEEN A CHALLENGE. I SPEND MORE TIME OVER THE SINK THEN ANYWHERE ELSE. IM BASICALLY HOMEBOUND THATS WHY IHAVE TO TRY THE SURGERY TO SEE IF IT WILL HELP. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR WORDS OF WARNING OR ENCOURAGEMENT ... ANYONE.
I looked up the other nose smelly things, but it all involves mysterious smoke smells, or some symptoms that I haven't had, luckily. I've never had asthma, nor any other respiratory problems in my life, and I haven't been doing anything strange, like drugs or a different diet ... so what the heck is this? I don't want to assume the worst, but it won't stop! It happens, oh, let's say, every couple of months, and the smell comes and goes, but now it's constant, every time I breathe in AND out.
These are small particle of hard food like a part of a peanut shards after being chewed up.. or really small pills like 10mg lipitor (I don't know how many of the liptors have literally dissolved back there instead of my stomach) Almost every night I have something stuck there it causes my sinus to swell in the during sleep and can sometimes get painful if it does not get dislodge. Sometimes I can dislodge it by rattle my sinus on that side.
My doctor sent me to a gastric doctor who said I was in the wrong place as blood will not come up unless you are throwing up. He suggested the ear/nose/throat dr. I had an appointment I had to cancel and I thought it had gone away til today when it happened twice. It was only happening at night I would wake up with that taste and spit. Now it's coming during the day. I do not smoke or have allergies. I do feel something is not right in my throat area.
Then, as though it were ready to reproduce, it moved into my upper chest, and I was coughing it up all over the place. That, though, was normal mucus and snot... This is totally different - WATERY and YELLOW AS A CRAYON! It got onto my white business shirt, and I had to bleach it! Could this just be the final-letting-loose of my infection from earlier? Or is it something more serious coming on??
It has been going on for a week and a half and I always feel dry and I have a lot of phlegm all day and the tongue colour goes up and down but always orange. From the posts it looks mostly like it must be to do with being on meds. We don't have many forest fires or the city pollution problems here! so I don't think it is that. I am worried tht it might be an indication of more so i will probably try my doc or dentist - maybe they have different ideas over here!
It might also be that since we have candida, there aren't that many good bacteria, and it might be that all we need is good bacteria to combat these gases that are being produced. So we can't up our good bacteria just by taking probiotics, we have to have the environment in which they can survive and grow, a candida infested intestine is the reason they won't grow. This is what I'm hoping anyway.
I go to the doctor next week for the blood work (beta), and hopefully I might be able to get an ultrasound done at the same time. Symptoms are showing up early with this pregnancy. I'm already looking pregnant from the bloating. And nausea is hitting me early too. We had a son 6 years ago. So this time around we're hoping it's a girl. It may be crazy, but we've already picked out a girl's name. Haven't come up with a boy's name yet.
