This morning he was coughing again and some mucus came up with a trace of what appeared to be blood in it. He is a little slower than usual and he still has an appetite, but not the same as before. Any ideas?
The other possibility is that you are coughing up blood. This can be due to bronchitis or pneumonia, lung cancers (especially in smokers), tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary embolism, or fungal and other infections. Discuss these possibilities with your doctor. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Hi, Continuous cough can make small cuts inside an irritated throat and sometimes little blood can come out along with mucus. You should control the cough with some cough syrup and the blocked nose can be easily cleared by inhaling medicinal vapours like Vicks VapoRub.

have had three episodes of coughing up blood in the past 3 weeks or so, two after exercise and once because of an athma attack. I had a chest x-ray after the first two incidents from exercising that showed hyperinflation (despite the fact my peak flow was 530, my best is 550 and my chest was clear). I was told to take a week off of training, and then see if it happened again. I had a bad attack Monday night and coughed up some bloody mucus after two nebulizer treatments.

I have had a cough for weeks and today I started to cough up bright red blood with some phlum in it. What can cause this???
This comes on by having a wheezing episode and then I begin coughing. This brings on the process of coughing up blood. It may happen several days in a row or may be months in between. The blood is bright red and may contain some mucus in it. The blood sample is about a quarter size and may happen 3 to 6 times in a row. I have had a lung spirometer test, sputum sample, a bronscopy, lung biopsy, multiple CAT scans, multiple chest x-rays, a PET scan and many many blood tests.
Most people when they have a bronchial / larynges infection will cough up yellowish flehm. coughing up large amounts of blood on the other hand is very bad. You will generally throw up blood though as it doesn't sit well in peoples stomach. medications that contain a cough suppressant may help over the short term to help reduce the irritation. However it will generally clear up for most people over a few days of rest and tea and chicken noodle soup.
Well, you definitely need a work-up by a pulmonary specialist. That being said, coughing up blood maybe very serious, and then again may not be very serious, so don't think you necessarily have a fatal illness. There are many possibilities.
for about 2months now I have had a cough, lots of mucus, wheezing, when I cough now i pee on myself which is embarrasing.
Hi, Hemoptysis or coughing out of blood may be due to any of the following: irritation of the throat from violent coughing, blood clot in the lung, bronchiectasis, bronchitis, cancer, cystic fibrosis, inflammation of the blood vessels in the lung, nosebleeds, pneumonia, tuberculosis or inhaling blood into the lungs. Are there any other signs or symptoms present? Chest x-ray, complete blood count and complete medical and physical examination is needed to help with the diagnosis.
The next day, early morning, i started coughing again as soon as i woke up. This time, there was a little more blood. The day after, i still had the cough(phlegm) but without any blood. And now today, I suddenly woke up early morning around 6am and started coughing again. This time there was something like maybe a total of ten drops of fresh blood in my mucus. I quit smoking completely last weekend and since then i haven't touched a ciggarette. Why then is there blood in my mucus?
i know nose bleeds are a normal thing because pregnancy affects those mucus membranes, but the only time i have heard of coughing up blood was from excessive coughing irritating the lining of the throat and /or lungs. please call your doctor.

A week ago, I coughed up some bloody mucus for the first time. The first episode was a small amount of bright fresh blood with some phlegm and on two subsequent occasions, the same day, the blood was darker and more integral with the phlegm. They were very small amounts each time. Today, a week later, there was again some phlegm which seemed to come from deep down and it had brown mucus with it.
No problem there, I have had bronchitis several times. What concerns me is that a few days ago I was coughing up pink mucus. Then it turned into a peach color, now it is getting brighter with orange. Now, I did go to grade school so I am thinking yellow + red = orange. I asked the Dr. at the E.R. he didn't seem to have an answer for me and was not concerned about this. Why is my mucus a solid orange mass that I am coughing up? No, I have not eaten or drank anything that was orange or pink.
It has been for a while now every morning when I wake up I spit mucus with blood?
In December I saw my doctor because I was spitting out, usually when I would wake up, blood with mucus present or not. I had developed a very bad bronchitis, that's what was diagnosed after a chest xray. I was on 30 GEN-Amoxicillin (500mg)for 10 days and where the blood ceased. Once I finished the medication the blood in the mucus returned. My mouth every morning is dry and when I clear my throat the mucus comes up followed by blood.
I might not cough all day, then it hits me. I do feel like I have some mucus I want to cough up after coughing. At times, a cold or warm drink seems to bring it on or just walking into air conditioning. My right nostril seems clear, a little congestion in the left. Any thoughts?
I wouldn't want to add to your medicines but, Mucinex can be used to loosen and thin the mucus you are 'throwing up'... I used to take Entex daily for that same thing until they came out with Mucinex that was over the counter (but, expensive) Costco sells the SAME medicine for less and in greater quantities...I think it's called "Mucus Relief"... Best of Luck...
for the last 3 weeks i have been coughing up mucus. its a yellowy colour. i feel perfectly fine physically except for the coughing. i have asthma and allergies to dust and cats, both of which i live with. but i have been taking my asthma meds daily to keep it under control and havent had any attacks. my allergies havent been that bad either. when i need it, i take claratin and it gets the job done. i just dont know why i keep coughing stuff up?
but i have been coughing up brown mucus everyday for the past 4 months. i have no idea what this is.
Hello and hope you are doing well. Your symptoms of chronic cough and coughing up blood could be due to tuberculosis. Tuberculosis can cause an evening rise of temperature and increased sweating. This also causes a loss of appetite; as such this is accompanied by weight loss. So, record your temperatures, on a two hourly basis to detect an evening rise of temperature. Please check with your doctor to rule out this condition. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Congratulations on quittling smoking. I hope you can stick with it. Colds can run up to two weeks and have a lingering cough. If you are not much better in the next 3 - 4 days, you should see your doctor. It does sound like you may have a sinus and/or ear infection, so seeing a doctor may be a good idea. A severe cough can cause a bad headache. Colds are caused by viruses and would not be associated with your quitting smoking. Feel better. God bless.
and had mucus production however it would clear up from time to time with antibotics. Now the damage to my lungs are worse. This new issue of the mucus production with food intake just started 2 yrs ago. And it is a night mare. And not one Dr. has gotten rid of this or has the answer to the problem.
Even with a pet scan they couldn't tell. But, was having trouble breathing, even coughing up blood and pain in chest and in back. Well, they decided it should come out, thinking it might be malignant, it turned out to be necrotizing granuloma, so they took the whole top half of my lung because when they got in there it was larger than they thought. But, thank my lucky stars it wasn't not malignant at all. But, they couldn't tell unless they went in and took it out to be tested.
This was the FIRST time I have EVER smoked a cigarette. Now today, I wake up and cough up blood. The taste of blood is in my mouth, and I guess I damaged my lungs by those two hits. Will this pass? Did I seriously mess up my lungs? Should I see a doctor? What should I do? What does the blood mean? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have talked with all my smoker friends and none have them have experienced this.
i can taste infection when i swallow and i keep coughing up mucus that has blood in it, what does blood in my mucus mean?
