Coughing up hard mucus

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing up hard mucus

rushtyyyyy green and yellow flem should not be coming up from allergy unless it is stomach acid. Usually allergy is clear mucus. I'm not a doctor but I wonder if it is a bacteria infection. Sorry I don't know the correct answer. Maybe the doctors are correct too. I just personally haven't heard of colored mucus from allergy. Allergy can cause mucus that can lead to bacteria infection too. See another doctor.
I might not cough all day, then it hits me. I do feel like I have some mucus I want to cough up after coughing. At times, a cold or warm drink seems to bring it on or just walking into air conditioning. My right nostril seems clear, a little congestion in the left. Any thoughts?
It has been for a while now every morning when I wake up I spit mucus with blood?
You could also try natural ways to soothe the cough. I avoided teas not because they are all bad during pregnancy it was just hard to keep up with the list so I just drank hot water and squeezed lemon and honey in it and seemed to help me a lot when I had a cold.
Most people when they have a bronchial / larynges infection will cough up yellowish flehm. coughing up large amounts of blood on the other hand is very bad. You will generally throw up blood though as it doesn't sit well in peoples stomach. medications that contain a cough suppressant may help over the short term to help reduce the irritation. However it will generally clear up for most people over a few days of rest and tea and chicken noodle soup.
On Saturday (about 3 days ago), I was coughing hard and bringing up some white to clear mucus after I took a syrup that's an expectorant, decongestant, and an antihistamine that my GP prescribed to me. I'm also getting over a sinus infection and just finished taking antibiotics as well. After I finished coughing hard, my throat (near my adam's apple) feels achy and feels weird when I swallow. I feel the weirdness when I'm swallowing the food and the sensation hangs around for 20 minutes or so.
It is thick and I spit it up and there is always more and I cough very hard, sometimes I throw up I cough so hard and then more mucus comes up. I can't sleep because when I lay down I cough. I take cough syrup to try to sleep. I sleep maybe 20 to 30 minutes and then I have mucus coming up again. I'm up and down all night long and always tired because I can't get a good night sleep. I got so mad at myself over all of this that I broke up all my cigerattes and threw them away on Saturday.
but i have been coughing up brown mucus everyday for the past 4 months. i have no idea what this is.
Again most doctors don't get this because they are not that great at metabolic endocrinology, most of the research is recent, and because acid reflux does irritate the throat, they do not look for a common metabolic cause, they just treat the acid reflux and get stumped when that doesn't clear up the mucus. So here's the experiment - eat a big meal - you get mucus, maybe acid reflux or heart burn. Eat a high carb meal. same result.
Would rather cough than take antidepressants any day. Check out the side effects on the net. I have been coughing up the same way as you mentioned every morning (mornings only) for 4 long as I have been in this house.... which tells me it is something in the environment in this house which I am reacting to at night. All that flegm would gather up from my snoring as well, which I only started doing in this house as well.... Doctors are clueless about allergies at the best of time....
on a morning when i wake up i always need to cough and clear my throat since about a year ago. but now it has extended to needing to do it throughout the day. sometime the mucus that comes up is small hard sticky lumps that nearly make me be sick as they get stuck in my throat. or some times theres a lot of yellow and white flem. its never clear. I'm wondering wat the cause of this is as i can constantly feel it there at back of my throat like a coating.
mucus in my throat (it might last many months) and combined with a coughing (it will last again 3 months?). How hard my life is? I hate Mucus and/or coughing. Could you give me some ideas or encouragement? Kind regards.
I've been coughing so hard I loose my breath, and then I start to vomit a thick phlegm 2 - 4 times a day. This has been going on now for 3 months straight daily now and is very embarrassing. I have had these issues for a couple of years though.

The cough produces white-ish phlegm and a lot of spit. It is hard to breathe whilst getting rid of the spit. During the night I wake up once or twice to cough and this often leaves me dry heaving. I went to the doctors last week but they could not find a cause. What is causing this and what can help?
Sometimes the coughing isn't real bad, just annoying and other times it is painful. Only once did I cough so hard that I had to gasp for air. Oh and I do cough up a little bit of phlemy stuff when I am coughing, but not alot. I would say on average this happens about 3 times a week. I am now making a log so if this doesn't stop I can go see a Dr about it and have something showing how often it happens. Do you think this could be a mild form of asthma?
For the past month, i've been coughing up clear sputum, sometime looks like there's gel-balls or bubbles. It's hard to explain. Should i be worried about this? I don't know if it's from the phentermine, the cigarettes, or because i might be coming down with a respiratory cold. Can i please have some advice? (NO ONE in my family know's i smoke. It's been a secret i've held from everyone. I'm scared to find out i have lung cancer or something terrible and breaking the news to everyone....
Here I sit 39 wks 2 days pregnant and SOOO ready to have this baby. I've been having TONS of mucus discharge but unfortunately it's coming from the WRONG end.....yup...sinuses...All day and all night, constantly running down the back of my throat gagging me, making me puke, making my throat sore...driving me absolutely nuts.
My dog has a cough and alot of white mucus is now coming up he is eating fine and staying hydrated, I am just looking for some over the counter meds to help him feel better till I can get him to the vet.
My throat at times fills up with mucus and I constantly have to clear my throat. And I can never get any of the mucus up. I use to get sinus drainage a lot. But since having been diagnosed with COPD for 3 years now, I know the mucus I am experiencing now is due to my lung disease. Please talk to your doctor about this as I mentioned. I hope and pray you find the answer to this disc problem. God bless.
I finally worked up enough courage to go to the doctor. I found out that all of my excess mucus was about disease of the airways. I was given MEDROL 4 Mg. Dosepak and told that THIS Is the only thing that can cure it. Prior to going to the doctor, I used various antibiotics to try and cure this ailment but NOTHING was successful. Nevertheless, I took MEDROL before and it worked WELL. I was also given zrytec and an albuterol pump. I was told that I have a bit of asthma also.
When I'm able to expell some, from very hard coughing I sometimes get immediate relief for about a minute until more mucus comes to take it's place. Drinking hot water also helps for a short time. I live with a constant feeling that something is stuck in my throat. I have had 4 different ENTs, all associated with Loma Linda medical center, looking in my nose. They all say the same thing, that they have never seen this before.
I am 26 years old and for the last couple of days I have not been able to keep much down. I have a terrible cough and my throat hurts really bad. I throw up cobs of mucus and then whatever I have eaten that moment. It has been really hard for me to breath when I work out or even just sitting around at times. The week before all of this started happening, my sinuses drained very bad. My head, nose and chest was very congested and I had a slight fever.
When the nose is too dry, it doesn't humidify the air sufficiently, then as it moves along it drys and thickens mucus further down. Eating stimulates saliva flow which starts to loosen the thick mucus and you end up with a cough. In my own case it's often a deep choking cough. It can help to drink some water about 15min or so before eating. Flushing the nose with saline solution beforehand can help as well.
Try taking 500 mg of vitamin B5 daily. that cleared up the condition for me. B5 is a mucus thinner. There are not side effects. At one time I was taking 1000 mg. daily.
I have had excess mucus for twenty years and it is getting worse. Have given up all caffeine in drinks and food. Am using a nasal spray and Ayers ointment to line my nose. After I eat or drink the mucus is more. I am taking allegra once a day but it does not help. I have given up all dairy and trying to cut down on sugar. I have an internist who has not solved this problem. Is there a specialist I should be seeing?
I've been coughing up unbelievable amounts of phlem and blowing my nose and more coming out. After I cough or blow my nose I can literally feel the mucus going from my nose to my throat. When I put my hand to my chest I can feel it so I cough it up and it's gone. It's never ending. The mucus balls are jelly like green yellowish and almost the size of a dime. It scared me. I'm not a smoker and I been on antibiotics, amocillian 500mg every 6 hrs for 3 days now.
I've been suffering for about a week but several months ago it was for almost an entire month Wake up inthe morning coughing up yellow / green mucus and then it goes clear but it's constant and so sticky - it won't even easily wash off the sides of the basin. Last time I used to wake up inthe middle of the night choking - really horrid problem and the lack f sleep only makes things worse.
