coughing up blood smoking

I woke up this morning and coughed up phlem that had blood in it.... I am a smoker could this be lung cancer? Everytine I have coughed since it was clear mucus I am 29 yrs old been smoking since i was 15. But over the last 2 yrs cut down to a half a pack a day. Someon pls help....

Are these episodes of coughing up blood accompanied by any other symptoms? Do you have abdominal pain, do you ever have bloody stools? Gastrointestinal problems like ulcers can also be the cause but not likely given that it is only a small amount. Do you have nose bleeds? Pain in throat? I think with the ct scans someone is definitely on the right track. Be patient and try not to think the worst scenario. It could be something really simple.

It could be related to the smoking or not related to the smoking (for an exaggerated example, a person who was a smoker but also had tuberculosis would cough up blood but it would not have much to do with the smoking). I would go get diagnosed.

Im not sure if i have an infection or what and seeking advice.. I know your advice will be to stop smoking, but even when i do for a while the coughing never ceases. Ive also been having pain in my left lung when i cough. On rare occasions blood will be in the phlem.

Since about the second or third week post quitting I started coughing up this weird white/gray phlegm that has a terrible, bitter acrid taste that coats my mouth and back of my throat almost like an oil. Similar to bronchitis sputum but not green or yellow. There's no tar in it, no black bits, and it's always a small amount but it's once a day, every day. Usually after I eat. I hate it, it's disgusting and I'm not sure why it's still coming up! Anyone else?

Is this blood in your sputum a 1 time event or have you had more episodes since? Tell me a little bit more about what is going on. If i understand correctly, you have been smoking for 3 years? How many packs per day? Do you have a fever? Describe your cough a little more.

The other possibility is that you are coughing up blood. This can be due to bronchitis or pneumonia, lung cancers (especially in smokers), tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary embolism, or fungal and other infections. Discuss these possibilities with your doctor. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. I have had numerous blood tests and recently had a CT Chest scan which showed nothing, though I am still coughing up blood (its not huge amounts - though when I cough I bring up flem along with blood). I also get headaches which occasionally turn into migraines, Tired/lethargic. I am a smoker. 18 years of age.

Hi: Anytime a person is coughing up blood, they need to see a doctor as soon as possible. The results could be a number of things, including internal bleeding from somewhere in the body. Please do not ignore the warning sign because bleeding will eventually cause iron deficiency if left untreated. It could be something alot less serious, but I certainly wouldnt take any chances. For the past 4 years I have been coughing up clear jelly like Mucus Balls. I have been a smoker for 8 years, and I have Asthma. I wake up in the morning and in the middle of the night coughing up a lot of the little mucus balls. It happens a little bit through out the day. Sometimes they are balls and sometimes they are like a hair, but made of mucus. I am very scared and do not have health insurance. I am 25, and thought I was pretty healthy. Please someone, HELP!

I have been smoking cigarettes and marijuana for a little over three years. I also smoked liquid pcp for about a year and a half, with a 6month break from all three when i went to rehab from nov08 to june09.. when i got out in june i started smoking pcp and weed again until i stopped about two weeks ago.. i still smoke cigarettes.

I have another questions I have been doing alot of coughing been coughing up alot of plehm but for the past half hour I have been coughing up blood not a smear of blood but a half dollar size amount of blood each time should I worry about this.

Probably best to just see a doctor before purchasing a body scan. coughing up blood is not normal and requires evaluation. You will have to use your own judgement on how bad the situation is and as to whether she needs to be seen in an ER this weekend.

so I've been coughing up black coffee grounds for a few years, I've seen at least 5+different doctors that have not been any help, the only thing 1 doctor told me was to try to stop smoking,I've smoked cigs since I was 17,so I quit cigs for 6 months with no change and saw the doctor again and he wasn't able to tell me anything.I cough the stuff up at least 10 times every 18 mins, sometimes more. Does anyone else experience this?Also can anyone provide insight to this?

been coughing for a couple of weeks little bit of fever very tired went to a walk in clinic a couple of days ago and the Doctor said it was mostly allergies gave me antibotics,congestion,cough syurp,nasal spray....this morning when I woke up I was coughing up blood in my phlegm the first 3 times then it cleared up....

Prior to being admitted I had a significant amount of blood I was given IVs and started treatment for TB Now again I was at work and started coughing up blood . They took X-rays and blood after about six hours later I was told that their was nothing wrong with me and the cause of my bleeding was due to to much coughing when I had not cough prior to this time . Right now I have not being able to go outside because its a little bit cold .

Well, if you are coughing up blood, a responsible adult in your life should be told so you can be seen by a doctor. I doubt I have to state the obvious that inhalation of smoke from weed isn't good for you. but coughing up blood is something that requires medical care so you need to talk to your parents about seeing a doctor.

and i started coughing small amounts of blood....today was worse...as i coughed up 3 times (maybe violently) but there was blood in it...and also when i blow my nose....also when i spit normally the first spit is normal, second one is little orangish, and after that blood...they said it could be gum problem. so please if anyone can give me some advice? i am scheduled to go to a capital city hospital to see better ENT doctor who ll tell me about my sinus and nasopharynx problems..

Well, you definitely need a work-up by a pulmonary specialist. That being said, coughing up blood maybe very serious, and then again may not be very serious, so don't think you necessarily have a fatal illness. There are many possibilities.

Never had an esophageal bleed but once those vessels burst it entails a lot more than just coughing up blood. As a rule those blood vessels just don't seal themselves back up and bleeding out can happen quickly. Did you see Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart? He was a bad alcoholic and towards the end the old boy was dying from the booze, p-issing himself, coughing up blood and on his way out. That was a pretty fair depiction of a raging alcoholic.
