Since about the second or third week post quitting I started coughing up this weird white/gray phlegm that has a terrible, bitter acrid taste that coats my mouth and back of my throat almost like an oil. Similar to bronchitis sputum but not green or yellow. There's no tar in it, no black bits, and it's always a small amount but it's once a day, every day. Usually after I eat. I hate it, it's disgusting and I'm not sure why it's still coming up! Anyone else?
I just quit two weeks ago, my lungs hurt so bad and I’m coughing up BLACK stuff in my phlem. Like everyone else I turned to the internet and I’m terrified of what I’m reading but fearful of hearing I’m dying I’ve avoided the doctor. Please let me know if this has happened to any of you and if any of you know a good detox for your lungs to cough up whatever is left in my lungs and get rid of the black stuff. Please help me.
My husband just got back from out of state and since he has been back he's been having all kinds of medical problems yet refuses to go to the dr so this is my only hope for an answer.
I would call my doctor tomoorw and tell them what i going on. that black stuff you are coughing up sounds like blood. dark blood is not ususally something you want to put off. this is one reason they ask you when you go for a physical if you cough what color is it and is your poop a normal color or is it black the black is blood.
please please don't treat yourself with antibiotics.
so I've been coughing up black coffee grounds for a few years, I've seen at least 5+different doctors that have not been any help, the only thing 1 doctor told me was to try to stop smoking,I've smoked cigs since I was 17,so I quit cigs for 6 months with no change and saw the doctor again and he wasn't able to tell me anything.I cough the stuff up at least 10 times every 18 mins, sometimes more. Does anyone else experience this?Also can anyone provide insight to this?

This all began in October when I thought I had bronchitis so I did a round of antibiotics then. Then at the beginning of December I started to cough up black stuff. I was given another round of antibiotics and that did nothing for it. I saw an ent who thought it might be fungus dripping from my sinuses, so I did a cat scan and they was clear. I also had a normal scope of my nose, so ent was ruled out.
I did look briefly at ceiling after I saw those black stuff. The ceiling seemed clean. The black stuff themselves seemed damp though. Since I need to take care my son at that time, I didn't check it carefully. I am feeling OK now after taking an Advil yesterday. Is this something I still need to worry about?

Anyways I thought the phelgm coughing up mighta been caused by some resin I was smoking, but they said that was black phlegm, not clearish yellow...
So a few days pass of coughing up phlegm, and now I'm sitting here.. irritated... i had the chills last night, I woke up several times.. coughing and sweating just about everytime. My throat is killing me.. I don't cough up phlegm as often, its more of a dry cough now with some phlegm every now and then.
The black stuff is tar. It takes several months to get the tar out your lungs. And when you smoke, you stay sick much longer. I used to be a ciggarette smoker. I would stay sick for weeks and coughed up black stuff for about 3 or 4 months, even when I wasn't sick. My advice to you is to switch to electronic ciggarettes. The only chemical is nicotene. With the electronics, you can breath and function, and you don't smell bad. But you are fine.
If I take my ventalin I usually stop coughing, but if I have stuff that needs to come out, it does so easier, but then I feel so dizzy. I don't feel dizzy when I haven't taken the ventalin. Is it because I'm coughing more effeciently? Or ? Is this okay and/or common? I feel dizzy to the point of thinking I'm going to black out. Let me clairfy. If I take the ventalin and don't cough anymore I'm fine. Its the coughing after the blue inhaler that makes me feel awful.
t had a cough and have no problems breathing but I can bring up the stuff whenever I try. I have had a chest xray which was clear and had 2 samples taken and both times they said the cell structure is normal and not to worry. If I expectorate it and put it on my finger, I can rub it into my skin and its a noticeable oily tar browny tar like but then disintegrates. The blacker stuff is the same, just a more dense version of that.
It seems that whenever I go to a restaurant to eat -- five to ten minutes after I am done eating -- I end up coughing hard to the point that it feels as if I am going to throw up. I have a black pepper allergy - and make sure to speak with the executive chefs to assure that nothing has it in it. I also have been diagnosed with acid reflex as well as my throat spasming when I swallow food. I have spent a lot of time fixing my diet at home.
so yesterday i was eating a bowl of top ramen chicken flavor soup and i was coughing more then usual that day. and about 20 minutes after eating the soup i continue to cough and eventually throw up. i through up all the soup along with this black liquid. ive had no stomach pains or any other symptoms. -my friends told me that i should see a doctor because i may have thrown up blood that was sitting in my stomach for a while.
I am not a alcoholic, I do drink on some weekends, I have noticed that I stop breathing and wake up coughing then that usaully leads into throwing up, this only happens when I drink liquor the stuff i throw up is black in colour, not like coffee beans any ideas what could be going on with me I am 42 yrs old thanx
Okay, so I quit smoking cigarettes 3 months ago, and almost immediately noticed weird pains in the right side of my chest. They've finally localized to one or two spots, both along the bottom side of my right lung. The pain comes and goes throughout each day, and can be sharp or dull, but very annoying. I've also been coughing up black stuff since I quit, mostly in the morning. And occasionally streaked with blood.
This appears to be an URGENT medical problem, especially with symptoms of breathing difficulty, coughing up black fluid, bruising, black fingertips. I would seek medical attention as soon as possible. How long has he had these symptoms? Breathing problems can be very serious. Hope you can get help soon and help your friend.
The urgent care doc gave me antibiotics and they finally started kicking in last weekend. Then Saturday night I started coughing really bad, and it's gotten a little better since, but I am still coughing and blowing my nose like crazy. Today at work when I had to blow my nose I felt like I had to put my whole body into it to get all the "stuff" out!
