rushtyyyyy green and yellow flem should not be coming up from allergy unless it is stomach acid. Usually allergy is clear mucus. I'm not a doctor but I wonder if it is a bacteria infection. Sorry I don't know the correct answer. Maybe the doctors are correct too. I just personally haven't heard of colored mucus from allergy. Allergy can cause mucus that can lead to bacteria infection too. See another doctor.
Since we are talking about coughing. I had a few questions of my own. I have had issues coughing for the past 4-5 years. I caught constantly. Sometimes it makes my headache worse but sometimes I don't have a headache so it doesn't bother me. I do have sinus disease as per my MRI. So that explains the post nasal drip. I always have problems coughing whenever I am near or around water. For example I cough so much in the shower that sometimes it will make me throw up or gag.
dry irritating cough plus when im asleep my chest is that rattly it wakes me up..just stopped drinking coffee and use decaf t.bags..slight improvement just going through tests to see if its acid reflux causing the irritation..so really thinking about changing my diet ...had camera down nose and chest xray both were clear..driving me bonkers had it for over a year now..been prescribed with omeprazole and gaviscon ...lets see how it goes ..
I take kapidex, Bentyl , Alkaline Drops( acid neutrilizer) and Carafate. Recently I have been throwing up stomach acid , have a foul taste in my mouth with nausea and coughing up stomach acid too. My Pulmonologist said that the acid reflux can back up into your lungs if you are overweight with a Hiatal Hernia which I am. My Gastroenterologist does not think at this time that I require surgery to fix my Hernia.
Hi I am constantly coughing due to Acid Reflux.. I am bringing up mucus, tried every thing the doctor told me to do.. I have taken to this day five boxes of Pantecta.. I been on steroids , antibiotics, name it. Is there anyone who knows of a home remedy I can try to stop coughing and help me with my acid reflux.. Its been over four months am coughing non stop..
You could take vitamin B6 supplement to ease off the psychiatric symptoms. The acid reflux, coughing attacks and seizures occurring at the same time is highly dangerous, as your friend can aspirate pulmonary contents leading to a fatal complication with full stomach and semiconscious state called as pulmonary aspiration. Consult your neurologist for these and a change of drug if keppra is causing this. Take care.
The other possibility is that you are coughing up blood. This can be due to bronchitis or pneumonia, lung cancers (especially in smokers), tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary embolism, or fungal and other infections. Discuss these possibilities with your doctor. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Take care!
Once I'd finished it's left me with a very soar throat and I'm coughing up blood every now and again, it's not excessive amount. I've also noticed that the skin around my left eye had lots of dark red patches and they seem to be all over my face but less dense. I do feel slightly drowsy also. Should I be going to see my doctor on this one or can you explain why this is happening.
The cold eventually went away, but since then I have been consistently coughing up clear phlegm 10-20 times a day. Usually, it's just small amounts, and I cough it up to try and clear my lungs and throat. I went to my doctor about a month ago and he performed a lung function breathing test and checked my blood oxygen levels and said that everything was normal. So he prescribed Nasonex which I have been taking for about a week, but it doesn’t seem to have made much difference.
Again most doctors don't get this because they are not that great at metabolic endocrinology, most of the research is recent, and because acid reflux does irritate the throat, they do not look for a common metabolic cause, they just treat the acid reflux and get stumped when that doesn't clear up the mucus. So here's the experiment - eat a big meal - you get mucus, maybe acid reflux or heart burn. Eat a high carb meal. same result.
I was left with a really bad cough, sometimes coughing non stop.. I went to an ENT doctor and he told me I had Acid Reflux, which is the reason am coughing so much and bringing up mucus. I am on Pantecta now for over three weeks and still coughing.. Is there anything else I can take to stop this coughing.. I am really tired and frustrated.
The doctors never mentioned that the constant coughing could be caused by acid reflux. Do you know of anything I could do to remedy the coughing because of acid reflux or should I go to the acid reflux/GERD forum and check there?
I have been woken up probably 5 times during my pregnancy due to acid backing up into my throat so far that I end up choking on it. I wake up gasping for air and coughing my brains out for about 30 minutes until I get back to normal. Super scary, super annoying. I literally feel like I'm going to die! Luckily I am due in 3 days but I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this as well??
I would recommend you discus acid reflux with your doctor. There is a type of acid reflux (larygealpharyngeal reflux) that does not cause the typical acid reflux symptoms of heart burn. The acid refluxes higher into the laryngx, pharynx and even the sinuses where it can cause laryngitis, sinus infections, and chronic cough along with a number of other issues. There are many other causes of chronic cough to investigate, but after allergies acid reflux is one of the leading causes.
Hello. My daughter is constantly coughing all night . She has been given a blue inhaler but it doesn't seem to be helping . is there anything i can do other than all the obvious things i.e propping her up etc. any help would be appreciated as she's missing out on a fair amount of school with being so tired . thank you .
It sounds like you may be suffering from LPR - its a type of reflux that affects the upper respiratory system - causing mucous to come up, coughing fits, one sided ear and sinus pain, etc. Please look it up, much of what you are talking about sounds like that (as I am guessing you have ruled out things like asthma, etc.?). The usual treatment is a PPI like Nexium twice a day and allergy type medications.
and I agreed to not use any other remedy for 30 days to see how much of my cough was still present. I believe it went up to my past level. I plan on calling to tell him what is happening. I have had cat-scans on my lungs and found white spots that determind not to be cancer. This being said, what do you recomend I ask him for me to do to relieve my coughing. I am 73 yrs old!!!!
I went in July to get it checked out and he told me it was just allergies although I have never had allergies consisting of coughing. It has gotten soo bad that when I do cough, I usually cough up clear saliva mixed with a clear mucus. I have gotten rid of our pets in the house, cleaned the carpets, vacuumed, dusted, in an effort to get rid of it but with no success. I have no idea what it could be and the only thing that seems to soothe the tickling feeling in my throat is cough syrup.
I was diagnosed with COPD in 2002 I stoped smoking from that day and have not smoked from then on. She has had a severe chronic cough for the past 7 months. The main symptom is coughing fits throughout the day and night due to what she described as a dry spot in her throat that is always in the same location. She saw a Dr. who said she had acid reflux. Yet, she has never shown any other signs of that disease, no heartburn or indigestion, nothing ever bothered her to indicate acid reflux. The Dr. has increased the dose but her symptons do not change.
I was told that coughing up mucus is a very common side affect to using PPI's for acid reflux? Is this true? I have been coughing up mucus since sept every morning.........have been on prilosec for about 3 months now, recently twice a day per doctor in the past 1 1/2 months........I am wondering about stopping that drug, however fear the return of the burn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had a cough for 3-4 months and i have been coughing up flegm. For about a couple of weeks, i have been having pain in my ribs (right side) so i need to know if I need to get this checked out or it could be something serious and should go to the ER. Thanks.
For the first week or so it was just a small cough, then it developed into coughing fits. For the past week the cough has led to nosebleeds, at least once a day, and vomiting, but only the once. The cough produces white-ish phlegm and a lot of spit. It is hard to breathe whilst getting rid of the spit. During the night I wake up once or twice to cough and this often leaves me dry heaving. I went to the doctors last week but they could not find a cause. What is causing this and what can help?
My third pregnancy I would wake up in the middle of the night coughing up acid, it was horrible!!!
