I was diagnosed with pneumonia about 3 weeks ago. I've been on a Z pack, Avelox, predniszolne, and Albuterol pump. After 3 visits to the ER, I am still coughing and wheezing and have shortness of breath. The last ER doctor gave me a nebulizer machine and Albuterol solution. I am also on Allegra. When will the coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath end? 3 chest xrays and a lung cat scan all came back clear after the antibiotics were finished.

I had a cold for two weeks, and then a week and half ago, i stopped coughing as much but started to get severe pain in my right lung when i cough. I also have a low fever. should i be concerned?
Good luck. I have pneumonia now and do not even know how I got it. I was told that pneumonia does not discriminate to attack during specific seasons, it will attack in all seasons. The first thing to do is find out what kind of pneumonia you have. Is it viral or bacterial. If it is viral, the best thing to do is practice proper sanitation, protect yourself from the harsh elements of the environment by using diet and exercise to boost your immune stystem. Do not smoke, if you smoke, quit.
I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia. I was prescribed Robitussin with codeine to help me sleep, although all it really did was tire me slightly. After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat.
I've been getting bronchial asthma past 10 years (from chronic sinusitis/allergies) and this past week, I have been ready to pass out from all the coughing I've been doing. If I laugh hard at something, I have a one-hour coughing jag (think I even pulled a muscle in my stomach from coughing). I'm at Week 13, so I'm not sure if the tx is making it worse -- definitely can't be making it better. My wbc has been at about 1.
I was feeling pretty bad coughing wheezing, bad chest pain. My friend and I diagnosed it as brochitis or pneumonia so I took 7 Levaquin, one a day for 7 days (had it in the house). Still felt bad after a week or so and went to my doctor who prescribed same Levaquin 500 mg for 7 days. My doctor ordered chest xrays and blood work. Blood work was just a little off she said not sure what was high or low as this was told to me over the phone.
My question is since then I have STILL been tired. But in November I developed a cold which turned out to be pneumonia well i was on the antibiotics for 14 days..In December I went to the Dr and again I had pneumonia in the other lung. Again I was placed on 2 antibiotic treatments..My Docotor didnt like that I developed it 2 different times and is having me see a pulmonologist. Well I am concerned and was wondering if this could be from being weakend after so long?
Monitor your progress by coughing up sputem on a tissue. When the sputem in clear fo four days you have probably ended the infection. Be aware of the side effects of the antibiotics. Get the handout from your pharmacist provided by the manufacturer. NOT the abreviated version given by the drug stores. You have to evict Harvey.
I am almost a week into a bad chest cold ...lots of coughing, productive but yellowish/green and tinged with blood in the a.m. Now my chest is hurting. Not sure if it's really just a cold or if could be pneumonia. I don't think I'm feverish but it's hard to tell because I spent a lot of time outside today and got a bit of a sunburn. Emotionally I feel disgusted by the fact I am even still alive.
i have been coughing for a about 4 days now and cold medicine was working but now it wont. and the cough seems to be getting worse. what could be wrong with me?
I hope you can figure out what your cough is from. I went down on life support with mold induced pneumonia in 2005. Since then I have asthma and COPD but I do have a Pulmonologist and believe you too need one. I also am on and off of prednisone, but careful with that as it lowers the immune system, hence now I have been on three rounds of antibiotics since Thanksgiving or before and still cannot shake my cough. One thing that has helped me enormously is that, despite the wheezing etc.
Coughing for 3 months initially brought on by walking pneumonia. Dr says it is asthma related and gives us inhalers that don't seem to work. The odd thing is, he does not cough when laying down. Another Dr told us there is no way it's asthma because it would get worse laying down. Missed 2 months of school last winter and 3 months this winter. Looking for answers or suggestions.
But, FWIW, the first 3 months I couldn't talk for more than a couple of minutes without coughing and the talking made it worse. The coughing is often caused by post nasal drip and there's a common sx called riba-cough. that's one reason I went out on medical leave. I (was) a teacher, too, and a vocal music teacher to boot. The coughing did go away after a couple of months but I think it's more coz I don't use the voice much than anything else.
However, after he finshed the medicine five days later, he still has had mild coughing during the day but very bad coughing at night. The coughing is so bad that he will cough up mucus or food that he has eaten. His doctor on 11/18/09 started him on pennicillin for ten days and loratadine which is a antihistamaine. Still he has the excesive coughing towards the evening and at night and continues to cough up mucus or food.
I have a 7 year old pug who was diagnosed with pneumonia back in March of 2008. After a series of both herbs and more serious medication (human quality z-pack {both of which are prescribed by my vet}) she seemed to be doing well. Her coughing seized and there was no fluid detected in her lungs. She has been off the medication for 3 weeks and her coughing started again. We are trying a number of herbal remedies to try to right size her health, but nothing seems to be working.
I was diagnosed with pneumonia 6 weeks ago. I was on oral antibiotics for 2 days, then admitted with an IV drip for 3 days (levifloxacin, as I'm allergic to penicillin-based drugs) then given a 5 day course of oral clarithromyacin. I rested for 2 more weeks after finishing the antibiotics but was still coughing yellow mucus and feeling tired with moderate/mild activity.
I have a 2 week old Shih tzu puppy who is coughing, but eating and I also give the Nutri cal for extra nutrition. I believe he may have Aspiration Pneumonia. What can I do myself? I cannot afford to go to the vet right now. Please advise. Thank you.
My cat recently was spayed. Next morning she was coughing (like hairball cough). No fever. Not eating. She was put on pencillin. She is still coughing 3 days later and is barely eating. Could she have aspiration pneumonia and was this caused by the anesthesia? Should I worry?
Is Mycoplasma Pneumonia easy to cure? Is this disease contagious and should the patient be quarantined? What is the most effective way to tackle this problem? Pls walk me thru this since my sister needs help and she is still in the hospital, thx.
I recently was at the doctors and she said I could have neuro pneumonia. what is that? I have severe pain in my ribs on the right side every time I cough. It feels like I have some broken ribs. They took exrays but don't have the results back yet.
You would definitely have a cough and possible shortness of breath. If you are not coughing, then I doubt you have inhaled anything. You may want to visit your doctor for your possible sinus infection though. Take care.
Coughing can last for weeks after an acute bout of pneumonia. As far as going back to work, this is an individual decision. You should be able to function at work without being exhausted before resuming full responsibility. See your physician to discuss the timing of the return to work and to make sure you are on the right track with respect to healing the pneumonia.
For the last week I have had worsening fine crackles in right lung area when pain worsens. Symptoms worse on inspiration, hiccoughing, coughing. Have had a dry cough throughout. GP sent me to A&E twice in first week - ectopic pregnancy, PE, pneumothorax, inflammatory markers, liver and kidney bloods negative. Abdominal ultrasound for gall stones clear. I have been unable to lie on my back or right side throughout due to pain. I am now wondering if this could be mild pneumonia.
I was diagnosed with pneumonia three weeks ago and treated with zithromax, doxycycline, and prednisone. I have finished the drugs, but still feel wheezing in my chest and severe pain in my back, light headed and weak at times . I have been to the Dr. at least three times to follow up and feel like I have worn out my welcome, as he keeps telling me go to the ER to be re-evaluated if I feel bad, and tells me that I should feel better already.
They are bottle fed with KMR and have always seemed to do really well on it. Yesterday I heard them coughing a little bit and I was worried. I took them to a vet a few days ago and he said they were fine. Today when I fed them they were coughing after they were done eating. It had never happened before but I noticed while the one was coughing after he ate a little bit of milk came out his nose. The breathing seems a little raspy.
