Common Questions and Answers about Coughing phlegm toddler

coughing

A few months ago we all developed a cold in the family. Steven my baby got better with the cold but he started wheezing and coughing. We had taken him to er for several times and he was diagonized with bronchities. He was given nabulizer and his doctor also instructed us to use the nebulizer machine at home. We did that for about a month and half but the wheezing goes off and on. Last week steven was seen again by the doctor and he said we be back in 3 months.
I have a chronic cough and have thick white, sometimes yellow phlegm that is really hard to get coughed up. I cough that up everyday, at least 2 times per day. I feel like my eyeballs are going to pop out of my head because I cough sooo hard. If I am on an oral steroid it helps but once off the steroid, it is hard to cough up again. The coughing keeps me up at night. I have been on many, many medications. I tested positive for asthma but the medications for that, are not even working.
During the day my cough is feels irritated not to much acheing...almost dry cough. And not coughing at night. My toddler had same cold but seems to be getting better...mine is not . Do you think I have an infection now?
It'll usually last for a few weeks then goes away for a while. In addition, when the A/C kicks on (car, home, etc.) that also triggers a coughing spell. About 3-4 years ago, I let my doctor take a crack at it. We tried everything and simply gave up. This would include two week trials with perscriptions to address asthma, acid relfux, and allergies.
I have this brutal head cold right now and, TMI, but lots of phlegm as well (yuck). I stayed home from work yesterday and tried to drag myself in to the office today, only to end up coming back home this morning. Even though I've been pregnant before, I was never sick at all the last time (I attribute that to the fact that I didn't have a very active toddler to chase after - who's bringing germs home from daycare - and I was getting more sleep, being able to sleep in on the weekends, etc.
Sorry, wanted to add that I have been coughing up phlegm too. Sorry to be gross but I seem to have lots of "gunk" coming up when I cough. I've been on antibiotics as recently as 2 weeks ago. The color of the phlegm got better (was green, now is white) but it's still there.
He has asthma as well so that could be part of the issue as he's constantly coughing when he eats. The past couple of weeks it's gotten bad to the point where i think he has a phobia of food because whatever he eats, comes ups. although he can eat crackers and ice cream and is fine. I'm at a loss. I have been to the dr and we did tests of his esophogas (sp?) and it came up fine.

After 3 weeks to a month, it appears my Mother and I are over the worst of it. I believe it was some form of bronchitis. At least that is what the symptoms were like. I had the heavy cough that made all parts of my body hurt. Some of the symptoms continue to linger. If I get the dry cough a few times, I take a cough drop "ricola" and stop it. The last 4 or 5 nights I was able to sleep. Before that, I would wake up coughing after less than an hour on my side.
Heed these warnings and it won’t. WHENEVER YOU BLOW SNOT AND PHLEGM AND PUS OUT OF YOUR NOSE, ALWAYS BLOW IT OUT ONE NOSTRIL ONLY. Press the other nostril closed with your finger. IF YOU DO OTHERWISE, YOU CAN BLOW THE INFECTION INTO YOUR EARS OR THE PART OF YOUR NOSE WHERE YOUR SENSE OF SMELL IS. NEVER BLOW YOUR NOSE AS HARD AS YOU CAN. THIS CAN BLOW THE INFECTION INTO YOUR EARS OR THE PART OF YOUR NOSE WHERE YOUR SENSE OF SMELL IS. Blow very very very gently.
The Fatigue and intense leg pain has made life unbearable, ive had to stop working. i can hardly take care of my toddler not to mention maintain my relationship with my husband. Not sure if the other symptoms are related but even just dealing with the gnats alone would be too much!
