Coughing phlegm for a month

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing phlegm for a month

coughing

2 weeks ago I decided to quit when I noticed that I was getting winded going up a flight of stairs and for a 20 year old male this wasn't a good sign. Now my question. I've been expelling a white frothy substance from my lungs quite constantly from day one since I quit. However, today i'am coughing up something else. Its encased in the phlegm very small pebble like balls that are dark in color. A lot of it seems to be coming up. Is this a sign of COPD or something worse?

Doctors say im ashmatic which is fine but one thing they cannot explain is why I've coughing out phlegm non stop for the past two month. Its not bloody, but thick and green sometimes white and foam like. My chest also feels tight everytime i cough. I use the sprays and all but this problem is permanently there.
I have a5 month old baby boy, for the past 3 days he has had a bad cough and keeps coughing up phlegm trouble is he keeps swallowing it. He has had me up every night and it sounds like a barking cough and he gets so upset. Tried nose drops, menthol rub on his chest, calpol,. The doctor said his chest was clear and it was all up top but really worried still as he is so upset by all this.
Now, sometimes grey or white sputum comes from a smokers cough. This is a average color for that in a smoker. I dont think I would be alarmed unless it was yellow or green in color, these are signs of infection. Make sure you take your inhalers as prescribed, this should help over time. Good luck! May God Bless.
It got more frequent and usually when I was sitting down or lying down. Just over a month ago I got a series of sore throats, they’d get better then another would start after a couple of days. Whether or not I got a sore throat seemed to depend on if I lay flat on my back. I started to prop myself up and the sore throats stopped, but the cough is still there.
Like Susie I had been a smoker for 7 (almost 8) years. I definitely coughed up a lot of brown gunk, and developed a habit of hawking lougies because of my post-nasal drip. I really don't believe that age has a factor in how smoking effects a person, its different for everyone. I know a TON of people who never had respiratory problems like I did but smoked longer than I, but I also knew people who had much worse problems than I who smoked for less time.
Until you are able to get yourself to your doctor for a thorough physical exam it is impossible to say for sure what is causing the blood in your phlegm. Although cancer is a possibility, it may have nothing to do with cancer. Please look upon this as a sign that you should stop smoking. At this time quitting smoking is the most important thing that you can do for yourself! You may want to look at our Quit Smoking Topic Center at http://www.nationaljewish.org/topic/smoking_cessation.
i've been sick for about a month i went to the doctor and he prescribed lepitor, and a cough syrum. it started as a cough then i began coughing pieces of phlegm, after a while i couldn't stop coughing and i would continue to vomit, though all i vomited was phlegm, and saliva. i couldn't speak for a while after that. if i laugh suddenly and take an unexpected breathe it feel like the phlegm covers up my air pipe and i can't breathe. i try to stay away from the cold air and not eat at night.
- I removed Corn, Wheat, Soy and Dairy from my diet for a month and the morning mucous went away within the first week. - I slowly added each thing back, one at a time with no adverse effects, until I got to wheat. Once I added wheat back into my diet. I noticed that the phlegm was coming back. I also noticed that my knees and ankles began to hurt in the morning again. I hadn't noticed that the knee and ankle pain had gone away, but now that it was back, I definitely noticed.
My wife has had a very severe cough for more than a month. It primarily occurs at night - every night, sometimes several times a night and rarely in the morning. It is so severe that it leads to vomiting and panic level shortness of breath. It is prohibiting any restful sleep and keeps her awake for hours afterword causing fatigue throught the day. There is some phlegm with the cough. She is 42, a smoker, is allergic to cats and dogs although we have had a 4 lb yorkie for 4.
My lungs are pretty bad i guess. I can't laugh without having a coughing fit and can't remember that being different. I have constant aches and pains in my chest and shortness of breath. For about the last month whenever phlegm comes up there is blood in it. It ranges from quite a bit to just streaks. I know this sounds silly but i have a phobia of going to the doctors. I've convinced myself if i go she's just going to tell me i have lung cancer and i would rather not know that!!
sounds similar to what my 9 yr old daughter does, she has excessive coughing and phlegm, for about 4 mnths now ,in dec,got so bad she dehydrated from throwing up mucuc so much she was hospitalized for the dehydration, the white of her eyes were red from broken vessels from coughing so hard and so much, shes suppose to have some asthma and no allergies, dont make much sense, but she has even seen an ent,ct scan showed a polyop/cist on left sinus but he said nothing to worry about, shes been on so many a
But any time I get a cold the phlegm comes back in force and stays for months. I wash it out with a Netti pot, thats really just using a saline rinse in my nose and letting it pour down the back of my throat until a can cough it out my mouth. That helps me feel better for a few hours, then the phlegm builds up again. I've been diagnosed with dormant TB, my lung xrays have always been clear so I don't know if it could have anything to do with it? I wish you all luck!
I tried Aerius (antialergic) pills for a few days, there was no relief. I'm now on Nexium for a few days but still don't feel any relief.
For about a year now, it feels like I have phlegm/mucus stuck in my throat and can't completely clear my throat. Also when I cough, its a lil wet and there is phlegm. When I started to have the problem, I went to the doc and he said it just may be sinuses and sent me on my way... but never went away. I went to the doc while I was in Basic Training in SC... then went to GA for 4 months... back to FL for a few months (where i use to live) and now I am in NC....
I have had cartarrh and phlegm for a good number of years and have an irritating cough when the phlegm builds up too much. The cough starts with a tickle and then It sounds like I smoke 60 a day! The cough rattles around and is keeping me awake more than it used to. I have tried Beconase spray, an inhaler which didn't work very well and catarrh remedies but nothing seems to work. I also suffer from Rhinitis and sore throat during the Spring/Summer months.
About two days into this course of Zepac, I felt a slight soreness in my throat (the kind you feel before you get strep or a cold) that got worse for a day, then disappeared. This soreness was accompanied by a few productive coughs, which brought up yellow-green phlegm. After I finished the Zepac, the phlegm resumed being clear/white. It is now two weeks after I finished the Zepac, the cough continues and so does the phlegm.
One of the things that was a constant problem for my father-in-law, Tom Sr., was excessive phlegm. For as long as I have known him, he was constantly clearing his throat. And not just one time, but many, many times in a row. One time I counted and he cleared his throat over 20 times to try and get rid of the excess phlegm that was in the back of his throat.
I'm origanilly from KY and walked barefoot everywhere. It start out as a itch. Cleared my throat and was fine. Over a few days it turned into a cough. a dry cough through out the day then very bad at night. It woke me up and I would have what I called fits. THEN about a week in I started coughing after I ate. I would cough and cough. So I went to the doctor. He said he didn't think it was reflux due to no heart burn and sleeping upright had no change.
I am a non-smoker, I have been coughing for the las month or so, this morning in the shower I started to spit black phlegm. Now I know this is not "normal". My father died from lung cancer at age 61, he was a smoker. I am using "Flovent" in the morning and "Ventolin" as needed. Any idea if that would stop by itself or should I see a doctor for stronger stuff? Thanks.
I give my nine month old son Benadryl occasionally for a runny nose. It's all right to give occasionally and for infants, it is 1/2 teaspoon of the liquid children's Benadryl. I just gave him some today, actually and have been giving it to him infrequently since he was five or six months old.
did not get coughing attacks for about a month, then they came back and have not gone away for a few months, have no health insurance I'd appreciate any reccomendations or suggestions.. and it is not heart burn..I know how that feels Ive had it for years..

For the last 10 years I have suffered with to much phlegm, originally after 3 years they said it was nasal drip and pollops. I had the pollops removed and still suffer, have tried loads of medication all to no avail, now my doctor says it could be coming up from my chest.
As for my background I'm a 26 year old male who is active with soccer however as of late I've only been able to play one game a week which is way below the norm. I was doing P90X for about a month but stopped a few weeks ago as work has been busier for me. I am a bit overweight holding some fat in the gut area but like I said I play soccer which has never really been a struggle for me. I have a GI condition known as IBS, and I have been diagnosed with allergies in the past.
I have full bunch of different anxiety symptoms. Sometimes, think everything happened to me. However, In last few days I started with coughing, actually it is more like I want to cough out something. I am so sick and tired of all those doctor's examinations, tests...cannt go for coughing again.... Has anybody had this as anxiety symptom?
when I cough it up, a LOT of phlegm comes up. then I cough a little more for 5 more minutes, and it's all gone. sometimes nose feels stuffy too, but it doesn't run. also, I don't have trouble breathing when this happens. only when I breathe in heavy or laugh, you can slightly head the crackling sound. I can't pinpoint the cause of it. it's not a dairy thing, because it happens with nondairy items AKA a turkey sandwich (no cheese) from Panera. I do notice with big spicy meals it also happens.
