I also have frequent coughing with mucus from my throat and have to blow my nose a lot after words. My doc says it's alergies but it all started about the time i was diagnosed with thyroid disease. I know this doesn't help but you are not alone.
My symptoms started a month ago when i had a fever, throat pain, coughing up yellow mucus and a runny nose, so i decided to visit my doctor which prescribed Klacid 500 mg (Clarithromycin), which i took and after a few days the runny nose stopped and my throat no longer hurt, however, i was still caughing, which a follow-up to my doctor gave me Valdocef (Cefadroxil) which i also took but the cough remained.
Second day I started to get a sore throat and started coughing really hard with a lot of dark green mucus coming out of my coughs. My nose usually stayed runny all day but usually at night when I'd go to sleep it wouldn't run. But I started coughing and sometimes there's blood in the mucus when I cough up, little amounts in the mucus. My temperature was 99.8, but recently around after day 5 my soar throat went away.
Lived with a father who smoked, and he himself seemed to have the same problem. Coughing up phlegm, tons of mucus. My mother had to wash so many handkerchiefs. We lived on a farm back then, and now I live on a farm as well, and have a husband who also smokes. It seems after I finish eating I often have lots of clear mucus that needs to get out. I can feel like it all situated in my nasal cavity, plus it needs to leave my throat as well. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink.
Dry nose-sinuses can cause this (I get it myself). When the nose is too dry, it doesn't humidify the air sufficiently, then as it moves along it drys and thickens mucus further down. Eating stimulates saliva flow which starts to loosen the thick mucus and you end up with a cough. In my own case it's often a deep choking cough.
It can help to drink some water about 15min or so before eating. Flushing the nose with saline solution beforehand can help as well.
Almost 3 weeks ago I thought I had a bad cold that lasted about 5 days, then it turned into a pesty mucus cough so I bought simple linctus which didnt help. After a further 5 days I went to the doctor because I thought I might have had an infection but I got the all clear and doctor told me to just eat chicken soup... I don't like soup. 10 days on and I'm still coughing mucus and my nose is still a little runny.
so really thinking about changing my diet ...had camera down nose and chest xray both were clear..driving me bonkers had it for over a year now..been prescribed with omeprazole and gaviscon ...lets see how it goes ..
I have a 3 yr old little girl who has been experiencing extreme mucus and coughing spells for over a month. It all began on January 9th when she came down with the common cold. It lasted about 10 days and she was back to normal. The only thing is that a few days later she developed a deep dry cough that would not let up.
I looked online for home remedies to cure a cough in children and the Tea & Honey did help "some". The cough went away and then....She woke up with a runny nose.
Hi all! I'm currently 6 weeks 5 days and oh man... The pleasure of morning sickness! Other than the nausea and vomiting, I'm also coughing a lot and the phlegm is making my chest and nose super congested. I've read that you'll have more mucus build up during pregnancy, so is it normal to feel this congested during the first trimester? Any advise on how to make the congestion better?
This could be due to post nasal drip which is mucus accumulation in the back of the nose and throat, excessive or thick secretions, or impairment in the normal clearance of mucus from the nose and throat. Try to avoid the nasal irritants such as cigarette smoke, perfume, aerosol sprays, smoke, smog and car exhaust. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and regards.
Starting from 02/23/2008 (the 37th day after last exposure), I started coughing with productive thick dark yellow mucus, runny nose, sore throat. However there was no fever until 03/02 (the 44th day after last exposure).
Here are the descriptions of my symptions:
Day 1 ~ day 8: productive coughing, thick dark yellow mucus, runny nose, sore throat (No fever)
Day 9: fever with 102.8F maximum.
And in the last few years, l have been coughing and it produces phlegm in the form of mucus that is sometimes brownish and at other times with the look of pus.Truth is that the phlegm/mucus smells very badly. Sometimes, l perceive the foul smell around my nose and inside of my throat and nose.
Have done TB serum test and TB sputum test and the result of these tests is negative.Have used different antibiotics without any relief or cure.
And the next day, I started coughing up small amounts of blood, sometimes combined with mucus, sometimes just blood clots, the blood seemed dark, not pink, and I didn't cough blood all the time, I would cough some blood, then it stopped, and maybe much later that day, or the next day, some more blood..
On and off, right side of my nose would bleed, but not bleeding like dropping out, instead it was bloody mucus inside the nostril. Ocassionaly i would cough up some blood, normally just a tiny red spot. I went to the hospital a month ago, done a chest x ray again, it came clear, done colonoscopy, gastroscopy, and upper endoscopy which said my membrane is vulnerable with spotty bleeding at touch, but it didnt explain blood in mucus. So after that i went to a Sinus and nasopharynx MSCT scan.
I have been to the doctor several times over coughing, taken bunches of medicine, when the medicine runs out I cough again. I have sinus drainage, allergies (for which I have had two years of shots), my nose isn't clogged and I do not have sinus headaches, occasional sinus pressure, nothing bad. The past several winters I get a "viral infection" and I cough, mostly at night, I get this a couple of times a year, late fall and mid spring.
s just flecks of blood it could be that your sinuses are irritated and/or very dry, Blowing your nose too hard can rupture the tiny blood vessels in your nose, drips down your throat and it gets coughed up with the stagnant mucus in the morning. Try a humidifier in your bedroom if your climate is dry, or use Ocean Spray during the day, wait a few minutes then blow your nose gently.
If you're coughing up more than a half cup of blood see your doctor asap.
After I cough or blow my nose I can literally feel the mucus going from my nose to my throat. When I put my hand to my chest I can feel it so I cough it up and it's gone. It's never ending. The mucus balls are jelly like green yellowish and almost the size of a dime. It scared me. I'm not a smoker and I been on antibiotics, amocillian 500mg every 6 hrs for 3 days now. I've gotten a steroid shot at my dr and my insurance just ran out so there's no way to go back.
I felt the inside of my nose and noticed there were dried mucus. Now I got a sore throat and a dry nose. I keep swallowing saliva whenever my nasal passage feels dry and thats almost every minute or so.
I considered getting a nasal spray but I wasn't sure because I never used it before and I worry I might worsen my sore throat.
Please help me, I want to get rid of this dry nose condition, it's been preventing me from going to sleep. It's been going on for a week now.
A couple of days ago, I contract something outside and the next day, I began having serious chills, stuffy nose, chest feeling stuffy, etc. Then the next day, it got worse (and yes, I took medicine for flu/cold) with coughing up (I'm presuming) some bloody mucus several times (it's more like a rust color), dry coughing mostly, severe chest congestion (Robatusson {sp?} doesn't work), and severe congestion in my nose.
However, when people exercise, they tend to breathe air through their mouth more than through their nose, which can cause dry, cool, and particle-filled air to go directly to the lungs, which can cause respiratory irritation that leads to coughing. Coughing is the body’s natural response to clear the airway of unwanted debris, including mucus build-up. However, coughing and mucus buildup from respiratory irritations usually discontinue shortly after exercise.
