Common Questions and Answers about Coughing mucus in throat

Avatar m tn I'm a 26 year old non smoking male and I'm in constant battle with my throat and voice. I have persistent mucus in my throat which causes continual throat clearing and/or coughing. While a lot of people say it is the worst at night I usually have no symptoms at night nor in the morning. Sometime around 11am or 12pm it will begin, usually after eating. When I wake up my voice is hoarse/raspy sometimes. The problem usually is at it's worst after eating a big meal like dinner.
Avatar m tn Three weeks ago I caught a cold, had a 100 degree fever for a couple hours, chills, coughing, ear ache etc. I also had a sore throat in the upper area, maybe tonsil area, which I never had before. I also had thick discolored mucus, started out orange, to yellow, to green. I never had this as well. After, 6 days it wasn't getting better with home remedies so I called my PCP, he said it was just a cold/flu and to give it time.

I have not had a cold, so don't think its post nasal drip........The cough seems to come outta nowhere and nothing brings it on. Not worse at nite or when laying down. I've had this cough for 6 months and have mentioned it to my dr. several times. I wanted to get tested for asthma, but he said my chest is clear...

Avatar f tn Is it possible that asthma sytmptoms of coughing, and tighteness in chest and mucus can be caused by advanced invasion of roundworms in the lungs? I have had very unproductive coughing and some times I get a clump of rather dry mucus that tooks like spagetti or worms. I also have fatigue and a feeling of fullness all of the time.
Avatar m tn Your respiratory consultant may be right that the blood is from the rupture of a small blood vessel, associated with coughing, but I believe that it would be inappropriate to make that assumption. The blood might be from anywhere in your respiratory system from the sinuses, to the throat itself, to your larynx and surrounding structures, to the trachea and even the gastrointestinal tract (the pharynx or upper esophagus) and not be evident on a Chest CT.
Avatar f tn If you don't have white spots in your throat (indicating strep) or yellow or green mucus, I would say it's just a common cold. I always feel worse in the morning and at night in terms of my allergies or when I'm sick.
Avatar n tn I am a 48 year old female, 5' 7" 145 lbs. I have had a chronic cough since 1991. My son was born in March of 1991 (after I was told that It would be unlikely that I could have children) and 5 months after he was born I experienced my first episode. At that time I was in California. We moved to Arizona and my cough continued. I began going to doctors about the Chronic Cough in Arizona. I cannot name all of the anti-biotics and steroids and anti-histamines and inhalers etc.
Avatar m tn Has anyone with LPR found a solution to clearing the throat coughing up of mucus through out the day and night and after eating. Any supplement , herbs suggestions. Any info would be appreciated to stop the mucus.
Avatar n tn i have a cough which started out dry and my throat hurt and i got body aches and hot cold flashes but the body ache and flashes went away then i got a stuffy nose which turned into a runny nose and im blowing green mucus and then just 2 days ago i got a sty (well i think) on my bottom eye lid and i have yellowish green mucus coming out of both eyes and im coughing up green mucus and my left side of my face hurts start at my temple but the sty is on my right eye
Avatar n tn If it's just flecks of blood it could be that your sinuses are irritated and/or very dry, Blowing your nose too hard can rupture the tiny blood vessels in your nose, drips down your throat and it gets coughed up with the stagnant mucus in the morning. Try a humidifier in your bedroom if your climate is dry, or use Ocean Spray during the day, wait a few minutes then blow your nose gently. If you're coughing up more than a half cup of blood see your doctor asap.

Avatar m tn I always awake with layers or lumps of green nose dirt (mucus ?) in my nose. Also I have a frequent need to clear my throat and I cough up phlegm which is often green. I have thought it was associated with a cold but it has been there now for months or even years and I do not think I have a cold. Or is it possible to have cold symptoms which linger for months? Can I do anything to help this condition ? Thanks for your help.
