Coughing like seal

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing like seal

coughing

It sounds like either allergies or reflux triggering the running nose which triggers the coughing. You need to know and treat the cause. Asthma is also a possibility. God bless.
Unfortunately my cough varies sometimes it is a dry cough, sometimes a chesty cough sometimes I bark like a seal and phlegm sticks at the back of my throat. I have had this for over 12 months now, I have had x-ray on my throat and lung area and told all is well. So where do I go from here. My coughing can also attack me even when I am not eating and I cough so hard that it is now hurting my chest.
Coughing up blood sounds like lung/esophagus issues. Heavy drinking can cause esophageal cancer...has he been checked for that?
He is miserable. The cough sounds like there is a seal stuck in his throat but like I said pertussis was negative. The only thing I did see on the internet was that Zyrtec can cause a cough, anyone hear of it causing this type of cough?
I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
I have COPD, today I started coughing, it was deeper than ususl, (sounded like a seal barking) I felt pain in my stomach like my muscles were getting sore, then in a series of hard coughing It felt something tore in my abb area, like I pulled a muscle, now there's a large lump that gets harder when I cough, there's no pain now when I cough, but it feels like it may tear right next to this one, is it anything I need to take a trip to the ER for?

My Siamese Seal Point Lynx has been to the vet for what I thought was an upper respitory infection. Turns out the vet says he has something like COPD. I had adopted him like this... He was prescribed baytril for 10 days. His coughing attacks subsided for the most part, since stopping the medicine he's back to having a tough time breathing, runny nose, and bad coughing attacks. I've done the x-rays, and I'm looking for advice... I am hoping he does not need pills for the rest of his life.

She sounded much like a seal when her coughing got intense.
I have had a seal like barking cough for almost 2 months now too.Have had 2 different antibiotics, chest Xrays . Finally to a lung specialist. She too suggested what REB 51 said ,perhaps it is cough variant asthmas, this kind of asthma has no weezing just coughins and can lasts for months. I sound like a seal, my throat is sore and my voice goes out. I have to take 40 MG of prednisone for a few weeks, an albuterol inhaler too.
Two weeks ago we notice our son getting a cough, dryish (sounds like an asthma type cough - our older son and hubby gets asthma) after 2-3 days, he wakes up coughing and unable to breath. AND GETS WORSE WHEN HE PANICS ABOUT IT! The coughing sound like a seal (classic sign of croup we are told - and consistent with the two times before that) he has this for about 4-5 days and now he has a wet/moist cough and runny nose.
When I laugh hard, I start coughing uncontrollably where I sound like a seal barking. It's so embarassing! Also, for the past year I have had a chronic dry cough, just short coughs, 3 or 4 at a time, several times a day that don't SEEM to be triggered by anything in particular. They are not like any coughs I have had in the past. I haven't been sick with any colds or flu and have no problem with sinus drainage or acid reflux (that I know of).
And you would know the difference between hearing a cough or sneeze, as a cough sounds loud and scary like a seal barking. If kitty is coughing along with the sneezing and the eye issues, that is a very bad sign, and he really should be seen. Talk to your Vet about starting kitty on Lysine, an Amino Acid that will help build up kitty's immune system against the herpes and future URI's. Best of luck with this, and please keep us posted...
It was more allergy/stuffy nose stuff, but then it turned into this nast cough. I sound like a harping seal. My chest is hurting too, along with my head, shoulders and stomach muscles from all the pressure. Did they give you antibiotics for the sinus infection?
This new onset headache which is very severe and aggravated by coughing or sneezing and relieved on lying on a flat bed could be a side effect of the lumbar punchure known as post dural punchure headache. This is caused by leak from the hole in the dura. You need to drink a lot of oral fluids and lie down flat. If you need to stand up you need to stand up slowly and not abruptly. Over the counter analgesics can be used when required.
The 'asthma' attacks are very unpredictable and especially sudden. I don't wheeze. I am fine one minute and then suddenly all the tubes in my ears/sinuses 'seal up' and this sensation of swelling and blocking spreads to include lungs and I am gasping for air. The reliever does help me get back to normal after a few minutes. What I can't understand is why I don't wheeze, though I have had coughing/irritability of the lungs when not using the preventer.
Now if you reverse this, that is, tighten the throat and breath in continuously for abour 8 to 12 seconds, then hold your breath for 4 seconds with the chin down, then chin up, close right nostril and slowly breath out through left nostril, you have just done Ujjayi pranayam. You will feel like coughing initially. Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
My son was diagnosed with trachea malacia at birth, was delivered by C-section/ breech. 1st I noticed that he was making a seal-like/ whooping cough sound when he began to cry after my recovery time/ at delivery his cry seemed normal. An Ear/nose/throat spec. did a scope to look at his trachea. Spec. said there was some edema around the trachea the trachea was extra soft and that his epiglotis looked under developed. Spec.
One of the reasons you may be having issues with coughing is the 'tight seal' of the thoracic cavity is compromised with a paraesophageal hernia. It means the pressure within that side of the chest isn't being maintained properly. In many cases a GI doc wouldn't be the one to do the surgery on this form of hernia, although I could be incorrect on that.
it looks like their coughing and gagging, and it sounds kind of like a seal or a goose. I have taken them so many times to the vet so they can witness it, and of course, they wouldn't. But finally we were in for something else, and one of them did it, he said that pugs especially get these when they get excited, and that they aren't really dangerous, just to calm them down and keep an eye on them. I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I do know how frustrating it is!
Sounds like your baby could have croupe. Her cough may sounds like a "barking seal" as we say in the NICU. Croupe is a virus that effects the upper airway. It usually presents in kids 6 months to 5 years of age. In other terms, its just a really bad cough that is self limiting and will run its course. Keep her well hydrated. A room humidifier may help loosen some of the secretions. Keep an eye on her respiratory efforts. Make sure when she unhales her chest doesn't suck in.
Hi, My memory is really bad so if I think of the name of this I will let you know but my son used to have these times where he would cough and it would sound like a seal barking....can't recall what that is....but also, my sister moved from NC to SC last year and she developed allergies and asthma after she moved there. I think there were some issues with the humidity and stuff as well. I will talk to her sometime this week and let you know what she says.
When my son was a year old, we thought he had croup, continually. He would start coughing at night, then build to coughing durig the day until the cough was extreme. His voice was scratchy, but slightly different from the croupe, seal bark. He could not sleep well due to the coughing, and even had a few ambulance rides and ER visits. The stress for me was overwhelming. I hope that your son gets better and you too are doing well.
Prior to HSV2 my complexion has always been clear except for some few remaining scars from having chickenpox when I was a child. It's the rashes, and coughing that concerns me the most. The coughing and clearing of my throat is constant. I've taken up exercising on the regular which has helped with the back pain to some degree. My question is does HSV2 impact the immune system as well? My doctor just prescribed me with Valtrex to be taken daily not just when I have an outbreak.
Ashtyn started wheezing and coughing really hoarse. He sounded like a barking seal when he would cough. They did a breathing treatment while we waited for the RSV test to come back. (he is getting the RSV vaccine) After the test came back negative we had to do another breathing treatment. They finally sent us home with a nebulizer and I have to give him a breathing treatment every 4 hours until we can get into the ped on monday!!! If its not one thing its another with this kid!!!!
I have days that I cough and it sounds like I am a big seal barking and I can hardly walk from the bedrom to the bathroom. There are other days that I can go grocery shopping and even WALK with a cart. I agree with the other person unless he is hospitalized I wouldn't go down....and remember he may only need a day or two to adjust meds or something. See if he will put you on his doctors and hospitals list to release his condition to you.
When my son had the croup, it came on suddenly- we'd previously just assumed it was a common cold (sneezing, runny nose, poor appetite, moody). Croup is a viral infection, so fever is very common. He woke us up in the middle of the night with the "barking". It really didn't sound like a cough at all, rather a deep, straining barking noise, unlike anything I'd ever heard before. We immediately took him in to the bathroom, shut the door, and let the steam build up in there with him.
Are you sick with a runny nose, sore throat, cough, possibly even goey green and brown stuff coming out? Well, you're not alone, you've got a cold like millions of other adults right now around the world. Colds are upper respiratory infections that are almost always caused by viruses in adults. They typically get better after a week to ten days.
