Coughing keeping me awake

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing keeping me awake

coughing

Nighttime is especially awful. My GP referred me at an ENT and it took me three weeks to get an appointment. He took all of five minutes with me and diagnosed GERD. Now he wants to schedule a stomach acid test. I decided to see a gastro. physician instead. I guess it will be another month before I see him! The only thing that helps is cough syrup with codine but doctor's are reluctant to prescribe because it can be addictive. If they had to live with this cough, they would care!!!
Working in a office is horrific when I have this cough and I hate it when everyone looks at me. I don't even want my husband or kids looking at me when I'm having a coughing fit. Very embarassing. With all this modern medicine there's got to be something they can do.
Hey, gal, good to see you back, but your voughing is keeping me awake! My first thought is an early, upper respiratory infection that may become a bronchitis. Asthma is not felt, generally as a tickle in the throat, but one in the lungs. My quick and dirty test for whther my cough is asthmatic is to try to blow all of my air out. If the air takes a long time to exhale and/or ends with a wheeze it is usually my asthma acting up. I also developed my asthma in my late 20's.
I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
They commeneced physio and allowed me to stay and look after her until she went to sleep at night. I worked a 2 hr drive away and 60 hrs a week so negotiated with by employers to take time off work to be with my mum as much as possible. I used cream to massage her arm leg and face and tapped her skin constantly even when justt sat talking to her. By 2 months she could say a few words and in month 4 she walked with a zimmer frame.
Just started taking them yesterday, so don't know if they will work for me or not. At least with the Vistaril, I get some sleep (not awake all night wanting to skin myself). Find that cold works, at least temporarily. So does a bath (1/2 full) with 1/2 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup cornstarch. I soaked in that yesterday and it took the itch away for a few hours.
I feel as if i'm going to stop breathing in my sleep. Everytime i'm dozing off I jolt awake and get this weird sensation in my legs and body. I also get this weird head rush or light headedness when I jump awake like that.I feel a little tiny bit weak all over. It doesn't seem like my inhaler is doing anything to help. What do you think this could be? Could this be the seasonal allergies that are so bad right now? Asthma? Lung failure or something serious?
Gosh, candida is coming out of me EVERY day, but the coughing and sneezing persists. I don't even notice a DECREASE in symptoms, but since it is coming out of me I will keep at it. I might just have a ton of candida. It might be that I need to repopulate my gut with good bacteria which I will do after I've gotten rid of more candida. I took a bunch of anti-fungals last night and got a really bad stomach ache, which I think is a good sign that they are working.
My uterus is right where it should be and the heart rate was high 150's again. She said me not gaining weight is not concerning right now. Baby is getting all it needs first. This is probably why it's taking me SOO long to get over this bronchitis. I do feel like I'm getting better but it's so draining to be coughing constantly! She mentioned that my ultrasound looked great- nothing to worry about. I've booked my gender scan for Feb 7th!! Yay!! I'm very excited for that!
I was having serious problems wheezing and coughing up tons of phlem, and the coughing was keeping me awake. So I had my bloodwork done, which was past due, and saw Maureen. (My bloodwork came back fine) She put me on Prednisone, (A 20 day dosage!), said I was wheezing! (REALLY!) And also gave me some Lunesta samples to help with my sleep.

I have been in a-fib for at least 6 out of the last 7 days after the ablation. I almos feel it was the connection to the Sotalol that was keeping me at 102-108 pulse rate.....all the time. My pulse rate as we speak is 72 bpm....PERFECT! So at least I know my heart has the capability of finding it's way....on it's own to a nice normal rhythm. :) I hope somehow yours does the same thing!
Still coughing fit to throw up (and I did this morning) and now have a super sore throat to boot, but am sure will be on the mend soon. Hope so, I want to enjoy China. Baby's moving a lot and keeping me awake at nights. So she's fine.
I have tried everything you can think of. My nose runs constantly, sometimes all night and it keeps me awake. Last night I was awake all night sneezing and coughing and then I could barely make it at work. I feel like a zombie because I hardly ever get a good night's sleep anymore. I have to take sleeping pills to knock me out so that I can get any sleep at all. I'm miserable and no medication seems to help me.
here i go....so for the last 6 months i have had itchy eyelids...my eye doctor told me it was due to mild allergies and prescribed eye drops which didnt help in the least so i turned to over the counter allergy medicine which hasn't helped either (so i dont think it's allergies) and in the last 3 weeks not only are my eyelids itchy but when i wake up in the morning my upper eye lids are bright red and swelled up so bad that its embarassing!!!!
lol He is feeling better today, one of the medications is doing the job, Course he did sleep from the time we got home until this morning! Yeah, after a night of staying awake coughing he sure was tired! Hope you all are feeling better too!! Did Blake take a nap and let you sleep?

It drove my parents crazy keeping them awake. No cough suppressent would work. For about 15 years this stopped happening. Its back with a vengeance. A couple of yrs. ago just before x-mas I got a bad cold that seemed to last all winter long. I chaulked it up to the full time job i had just started in an elementary school, this being a petri dish for germs. Last year the same thing happened. Doctors said asthma I said thats not what i have and waited it out. Coughing for aroung 5 to 6 months.
I havent slept for 3 nights, its keeping me and my partner awake, I have to sit up in bed. Help any ideas what to do? I cant see a doctor till tomorrow and that only if they have a free appointment. I dont know how much more I can take of this. Help its driving me mad!
If it makes you feel any better, I don't sleep worth a danged either. If it isn't work keeping me awake, it is me thinking about work keeping me awake. I bet its been 25 years since I slept more than 3 hours in a night. Funny thing is, whenever I wake up I have something that I need to do. I don't get it, but I don't think about it either. I believe that that is how I get through it all. Well.... I wish you well.
Hello, I am having shoulder pain which is keeping me awake at nights. I recently helped a friend for moving his things to new house but i dont think it was too heavy. Also the pain gets worse at nights, it is there even if i am resting and is worse if my arm is streched or pressed when sleeping. I used to have such joint pain before when i was in india in knee, elbow and shoulder joints during cold and cloudy weather but i have not had any problems from 2 yrs in sweden.
The codeine cough syrup should only be used if a dry cough keeps you awake at night, otherwise you need to continue coughing to expectorate infected mucous and prevent worsening infection and/or partially collapsed lung. Hope this helps. Well wishes to you!
For the past two days, I have had lots of movement within my GI tract, but I am staying bloated and the coughing spasms (which are productive) have kept me awake at night since they are worse when I lay down. I am also experiencing random bouts of nausea which Phenergen does help (Zofran does nothing for me). Since I am no longer able to find Mylanta (have been told that they do not make it anymore), I am taking a generic version that has helped some.
I was wondering if any of you guys/girls could help me out. Thanks.
I am not in any pain...it is just keeping me awake and gets embarassing when I am coughing all the time. I am only 38 and sometimes sound like 88 that smokes 60 a day....any ideas....
but better than a transplant. here's to keeping our fingers (and toes, if you can) crossed, prayers growing, and jokes FLOWING...I need them all (especially the prayers and jokes), that is a weird combo...isn't it? But anyhow, things don't look quite so bad right now, at least not to me... I did find out that when I am sitting and working on crosswords or reading and such...I find myself slumped over sideways or forward between my legs...
Another sleep study was recommended. Then my daughter came to stay with me after I got out of the hospital. Since she was sleeping with me she had first hand knowledge of these apnea events, really loud snoring, and odd breathing patterns during the night. She woke me up on several occassions because she was concerned, but stopped when I threatened her (only kidding). When I saw the ENT, again another sleep study was recommended.
Anyone awake? I'm bored and am 20 weeks and looking for people to talk with!!!
The second week of April, I had a nasty coughing fit and vomited at the end of it--I assumed it was from coughing. That was about 2 hours after supper and my food was completely undigested. A couple hours later I vomited again. Blew it off as something I had eaten. That night was the beginning of a nasty week. My belching worsened at this time and I ended up vomiting over 10 times that week.
