Avatar n tn When I had congested heart failure I did not know I had fluid in my lungs. When there is congestion from heart failure there almost always is dry cough. Also, there is the sensation one isn't get enough air and that can cause hyperventilation and feeling of chocking....especially when is lying down...gravity has a bearing..sitting up can provide some relief...my congestion (pulmonary edema) was classified as mild.
Avatar m tn we to went through the same emotions with our boy gilly who was nearly 13 everything you just said was near enough the same our boy had chronic kidney failure which affected his liver then heart,, it was the look he gave me and I knew the time was right! This was February this year and we are still crying and heartbroken! ! But we have to think of our babies suffering an not ourselfs.... we to light candle an have him with us next to his picture an feathers the angel sends!!!
328381 tn?1269364102 i also have had 9 stents over the last four years. after my bypass i followed up with my heart surgen they did a chest xray in march because of coughing the dr said mild fluid left lung nothing to worry about it is now july i wheeze during exertion and i wake up 3 times a night with coughing and wheezing i spit up a white mucus. no swelling in legs or feet but my abdomen is very hard but getting large. i think fat would be a little softer.
323615 tn?1226193396 Congested heart failure (CHF) often impairs sleeping as the lungs get congested when inclined resulting in severe coughing spells, and hyperventilation.
Avatar n tn Vets are stuck on the idea that my dog has congestive heart failure because of a heart murmur and enlarged heart. But he was diagnosed with that heart murmur and enlarged heart 8 years earlier. No coughing until the last 2 months. Also, antibiotics would have little to no effect on congestive heart failure. Dog gets much better with antibiotic but it comes back after the pills run out. This is getting ridiculously expensive. Nearly $1K in vet bills over the last 40 days.
Avatar n tn Coughing from heart disease and especially coughing at night is a symptom of Congestive Heart Failure. Congestive Heart Failure can give a dry cough or produce white or clear mucus. Has he been retaining any water around his abdomen? If he is, it would be suspicious for left side congestive heart failure which would be more serious than right side congestive heart failure.
Avatar m tn first off i would not assume that you have heart failure because you are obviously in good physical shape by working out as you say you have been and continue to do so at some level...my advice to you would be to get a professional opinion with a good heart doc and make an educated decision based upon their diagnosis .....for all of us it is not a good idea to self diagnose and can actually hurt us physically as well as emotionally....good luck my friend....
Avatar n tn Why have you decided against bypass surgery? blockages of 90,99,90% are severe and he could end up with a lot of dead heart muscle, causing heart failure. If the hernia isn't causing major problems, I would leave it alone. In many cases surgery isn't a long term fix. Just coughing can cause the muscle to re-open and cause the hernia again. I have a small one and the recommendation was to leave it alone.
785188 tn?1279928405 s pushing the trachea up, causing coughing); however, heart failure would be another differential or reason on why your dog is coughing. I'd recommend having your vet assess your dog; if needed, cough suppressants may be necessary once heart failure has been ruled out!
Avatar f tn Hi i have a 12 year old male staffie who has had 4 seizures over the past 4/5 months other than this and a few fatty lumps he eats well runs around and is very happy but for the past few days has started coughing normally first thing in the morning and when excited cough sounds like he has some thing stuck in his throat any advice ??
Avatar m tn May I ask how urgently one needs to be treated for congested heart failure with coughing, presumably fluid in lungs post CABG?
661200 tn?1225483013 I have a 14yr old cocker mix in the end stages of congestive heart failure (CHF). We had her in the ER four days ago after what appears to have been a spell of hypoxia (lack of oygen to the brain). ER Doc gave her a large dose of liquid lasix which helped out some. She is currently on Benzapril, Furosemide, Spironolactone, and Pimobendan (and had been on nitroglycerin). We got her home from the ER not much better than when she went in.
1200240 tn?1289339687 Yes, six years ago I had congested heart failure. The congestion was fluid leakage into the lung tissues. The heart was weak and more blood was coming into the heart than the heart was able to pump into circulation. Fluids leaked into the peripherals as well. I wasn't coughing up blood, but lying down I had a choking sensation and dry coughing...thought is it was a lung problem but was shocked to hear I had had a heart attack.
Avatar m tn In humans, valvular disease with secondary congestive heart failure would be treated with open-heart surgery to repair or replace the valve, but that that is very rarely done in dogs. In fact, valve replacement can't be in dogs at all, as far as I know. In very rare circumstances, valve repair can be done, IF it is the mitral valve that is the problem and IF everything else is right for a repair job.
Avatar f tn Heart failure is certainly one possibility, but it may even be a virus or allergies. Since she's well into her senior years, it's time to have a vet check her out. Congestive heart failure can be treated with meds for some time, and like most illnesses, it's better to have it diagnosed and treated earlier rather than later.
5967085 tn?1377539802 The vet then took chest x-rays and found that her liver was a bit enlarged and was pushing against her diaphragm. In addition, he said her heart looked normal. He then prescribed a stronger antibiotic and a medication that he described as a human equivalent to Mucinex. I decided against giving her any more antibiotics since he said it would make her sick and nauseous and because of what he said about her liver (my Chihuahua’s mother died from liver failure).
Avatar f tn I took him to our state veterinary college to be checked right after he developed the cough. They did a thorough exam. He does not have congestive heart failure, nothing is pressing on his trachea, and his trachea has not collapsed. His own vet thinks his trachea has or is collapsing, in spite of what they said at vet school. If he has none of these, what could cause this cough? In the last few months he has been getting a little something to come up.
Avatar m tn I thought I would update you, it turned out to be major organ failure... His Liver, Kidneys and his Heart had swollen up and stopped working properly... His heart had some failure, so blood wasnt being pumped to his other orgrans properly, causing his kidneys to shrink and stop functioning correctly, which led to liver failure...
Avatar n tn Hes been diagnosed with a collapsed trachea, congestive heart failure, lung worm, and the most recent diagnoses is asthma. He has been treated for all of these conditions with no real improvement and again he seems to be getting worse. I am currently occasionally giving him benadryl but all that seems to do is knock him out and doesnt really affect the coughing. I just wanted to post this to see if anyone out there had any ideas as to what this could be?
Avatar m tn Hi there, When I had my open-heart surgery (mitral valve) I was in heart-failure for more than a year post-op and had to get re-admitted a few times due to fluids on the lungs, fluid retention. A very good breathing exercise: blow up a baloon! let him do that a few times a day and check him for signs of fluid retention (ancles, face, hands) and let him see a Doctor to make sure he is not in heart-failure.
Avatar n tn The wet sounding lungs is prbably either asthma, pneumonia, or possibly heart failure. I hope that you've taken the cat to the vet by now-this could be very serious and it's not something that you can do the wait and see thing with.
Avatar n tn Not everyone gets chest pain with heart failure. Heart failure symptoms are right side water retention in legs and abdomen. Left side heart failure (more serious than right side) water in lungs with usually coughing. Heart failure is critical if lips, ears, nose and hands and feet start turning blue. See your doctor today and request an angiogram if you haven't already had one recently. Take care.
Avatar m tn Years ago I had a dry cough due to heart failure, but it usually happened at night while in an inclined position. There were other symptoms that included faster than normal heart rate and shortness of breath. Thanks for sharing and if there are any followup questions you are welcome to ask.
Avatar n tn It could be anything from allergies, to a respiratory infection, to something worse like congestive heart failure. The diarrhea may or may not be related. One thing is for certain - you won't know what it is until your vet examines him.
Avatar n tn Has he had a chest x-ray to rule out fluid in the lungs? Coughing most of the time is associated with fluid in the lungs due to heart failure. It can also be associated with ace inhibitors.
Avatar n tn t complete 1 stage (5 METs) my original stress test in May I completed 2 stages (7METs). In both my heart rate went up to 140s but much quicker in the second one. Oh and my EF is now 47% I have problems with retaining fluid almost daily. My cardio currently has me on coreg 6.25, toresemdie 10 to 40 mg (based on wieght) diovan 80, dyazide 37.5/25, aldactone 25, KCL 10 to 40 (match to toresemide). When I attempt any activity i become sob (or coughing) and have chest pain.
