I have a cold, am not a smoker but am coughing up blood in my phlegm.

the phlegm im coughing up in the morning is the normality of phlegm coughed up by a normal smoker.

Also I have a frequent need to clear my throat and I cough up phlegm which is often green. I have thought it was associated with a cold but it has been there now for months or even years and I do not think I have a cold. Or is it possible to have cold symptoms which linger for months? Can I do anything to help this condition ? Thanks for your help.

I experience several bouts of heavy coughing that can last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes while coughing up mostly clear phlegm with some of it a sea green color and at other times tinged pink - though this is rare. One out of ten coughing fits ends with me vomiting .... I guess it would be best described as a clear foamy form of phlegm. I do experience hot and cold flashes, sometimes it helps my breathing to step outside and sometimes it makes it worse.

If it's a cold, then it would disappear in a few days and if not then it's most likely flu or something else. Just take paracetamol for the aches and pains and try some vapour rub to help clear congestion. You say that you were coughing up green stuff though? I would keep an eye on that, if you're congested and coughing up green stuff that's usually sign of infection because it should be cloudy white or clear otherwise. If it continues go see your doctor.

Hi, I'm 16 and 3 days ago I suddenly started coughing and green phelegm was excreted. I have sore throat, cough and occasional runny nose. I,otherwise feel generally ok. Then I started noticing something behind my throat. Could be strep but can anyone clarify. Im thinking if I should go to the hospital because just the feeling of my chest and when I cough I cant breathe cause its so congested with mucus. When I spit up its green? Im not too sure if its that bad or not. What do you guys think?

Hi not sure if anyone will know this but worth a try, i have smoked for 41 years mostly roll ups with no filters or anything, but about 3 plus years ago i started putting filters in and after a few months started coughing up green phlegm i asked the doctor he just said getting older and smoking, Some days it seems worse than others its really strange, i don't smoke load about 15 a day but there dead thin and i only smoke half at a time.

I sometimes cough and then cough up green phlegm. I have had upper gi and colonoscopy. It did show a hiatal hernia. I don’t know where this green stuff is coming from. Had anyone else had this problem? I especially get it when I workout.

m experiencing some kind if cold which just started affecting my chest yesterday and today has me coughing up dark green phlegm... Any advice ladies?

I have been splitting up lite green phlegm for the last two months. I was told by a non medical friend to not use any over the counter drugs because this might supress the secretions that need to come out naturally? Same as you, it started dry and then progressed to bringing up phlegm. The phlegm is yellowish-green. I went to see my doctor about 2 weeks ago. He gave me an anti-biotic for a sinus infection (which is what almost everyone I know is being diagnosed with). Needless to say, I have finished my 10 day track of anti-biotics and I am still coughing! Guess that wasn't the right diagnosis. Anyways, just watch out for Pneumonia.

Even when I stop coughing the green phelgm (after a week or so), I do continue coughing white phlegm for about another week. While the other times, the docs say it's just a common cold (I really can't tell the difference) however I keep having to have time off work, the cough is so bad I am sometimes sick with it. It seems to come in waves of coughing spells and then no coughs. I have been coughing up phlegm that is mostly white/clear with small amounts of a yellowish color and small brown flecks. When I lay down I can hear myself breathing/wheezing and makes it impossible to sleep, not to mention coughing fits making my partner unable to sleep. I have been taking antihistamines before bed and it seems to help calm my cough.

Hi there , Zpack should have worked for yor current condition, I would ask your primary to give you a shot of anti's as a kick start. Had the same thing and did Zpac and a shot to get it in my system. You need to watch out cuz green phlegm isn't a good sign. It's bacterial, watch for bronchitis, pneumonia.

ve coughing out phlegm non stop for the past two month. Its not bloody, but thick and green sometimes white and foam like. My chest also feels tight everytime i cough. I use the sprays and all but this problem is permanently there.

no fever but i was tired and the coughing was worse in the evening and in the morning i would get bad attacks and it was very hard to cough up the phlegm. The phlegm at the time was a thick grey/green mucous. Not a large amount about 5p/dime size. The actual phlegm was clearish with a green/grey tinge. The blood was bright red. Needles to say, after reading everything online I am now scared witless! I am going to speak to my GP tomorrow. It has not happened since. Has this happened to anyone else and it be nothing scarey?

I assume that the spot your are talking about is sore and the green stuff is phlegm that you are coughing up? Both are good signs of a cold or sinus infection. Your neuro can make the call and tell you to call your PCP if that is who needs to see you.

Since about the second or third week post quitting I started coughing up this weird white/gray phlegm that has a terrible, bitter acrid taste that coats my mouth and back of my throat almost like an oil. Similar to bronchitis sputum but not green or yellow. There's no tar in it, no black bits, and it's always a small amount but it's once a day, every day. Usually after I eat. I hate it, it's disgusting and I'm not sure why it's still coming up! Anyone else?
