Coughing for seven weeks

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing for seven weeks

coughing

Sharp pain could be ligiment pain, stretching, coughing is just a cold. I had two back to back and I thought I was strep throat, and my chest was congested, aweful! Hard coughs and getting up to fast, changing position also cause the sharp stab,or dull achey, I had both sides hurt for hours! But felt the sharp pain on the left, apparently it's common. Wouldn't worry.
My Mom says she feels sick in the mornings and doesn't feel better until after she coughs up all of her thick, clear phlegm. She had her left lower lobe removed seven weeks ago. She has COPD (mild) prior to surgery. She had the same problem with the excess phlegm before surgery, but it didn't make her sick. She takes atrovent, pro air and spiriva. She also takes carafate for the nausea. Do you have any other suggestions how to treat the nausea.
I'm a very healthy, active person who developed a cough seven or eight weeks ago. My primary care physian prescribed a round of antibiotics three weeks ago which I took. The cough has since improved although that could be as much from the passage as time as from the drugs. Now, in addition to still having the cough I'm having joint pain -- pain in one of my fingers, one of my ankles and one of my wrists. It sort of reminds me of those "growing pains" from when I was a child.
Europe or consult your doctor and get some prescription medicines for this problem. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to recover. I hope this helps.
hi im wondering if you could possiably give me some advice to get rid of this really agitating cough i have had for the past seven weeks. im at my wits end with it. I have been to my doctor twice regarding it and they seem to have no idea what it is. all they give me is antibiotics which dont work at all. i was prescribes co-amoxiclav 150/50mg for a week then again prescribed another dose of antibiotics but 500mg which only succeded in making me sick.
She didn't cough while we were there.....so he didn't find a problem. The coughing became more frequent. I boarded her at the vet for about a week and they said they never heard her cough. So I finally videoed a couple of the episodes. When the vet saw the videos, he x-rayed her heart and said she had congestive heart failure. She is now on LASIK for her heart. About a year before she was diagnosed with cogestive heart failure, she was put on rimadyl for her arthritis.
It is horribly embarassing and I am afraid to go into too many public places for about 2-3 weeks after a cold. I work for a doctor and every year we talk about these symptoms and he suggests it may be one of two things: either spasms in my voice box or laryngeal spasms caused by acid reflux. I do not have typical symptoms of heartburn, etc., By the time I decide to see an ENT, my symptoms have gone and I decide not to! Then, it happens again the next time a I get a cold.
have you been tested for polycystic ovarian syndrome?WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I USE TO HAVE CYCLES FOR weeks at a time they ran test after i went to doctor after doctor even had several d&c,laporascopy, histerpeniograms, still they found nothing then in 2003 i found uot i had pcos.try getting tested it's worth a try.
Hey guys thanks for posting your comments and experiences. Ihavetohaveanickname?, I really dont think it is psychological because even when i forget about it, i remember later there is something wrong when i see the color of my urine, which looks like TEA. That is i suppose because ive cut the amount of water i drink, and when i drink more again i am constantly going to the loo.
The spasm cough causes it all and when it goes away (usually 4 to 5 days) things are relatively normal although a normal cough stays with me for weeks after. I notice if I catch it early (which means I carry antibiotics with me all the time) it is not as nearly as bad. Doctors have diagnosed this as Asthma, chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma etc etc. All different specialists seem to have a different prognosis and the recommended pills over the years have not really done any good.
i talked with joanne last night and told her that i've been really concerned about the sinus infection that i've been having for the last eight weeks, granted for the last 3-4 weeks the sinus infection has been limited to a slight tingliing in the back of the nasal area with not much of a sore throat.... so i asked her about her sexual history, she says shes only been with one other guy in the last four years since being with me and he only been with one other woman 7 years before her....
They does not dare to cut part of the lung, because they do not know the reasons for the bleedings. He had a severe bleeding for three years. For two weeks, he had another bleeding. He had also a pneumonia at the right side. When he starts antibiotics, the bleeding stops. The bleeding stopped now for a week and a half. Examination of blood and pathological anatomical investigation of bronchoscopy does not show any infection.
did a chest xray which was normal, tried him on albuterol which didn't help, tried him on codiene cough meds for sleeping which only lasted from 9p.m.-1a.m. and then he wakes up coughing. The ENT dr. did a quick look at his throat with a mirror and said everything looked good and his neck felt normal. He thinks it's GERD, and wants him to continue on his Prilosec, which he has been taking for the past month to no avail.
I have now been free of my swallowing trouble for a full seven days. I used deep heat once a day for only two days and then stopped. My only annoyance so far is that I have been a little paranoid that the symptoms will return. Crazy I know, but I have been in similar situations before and know not to push my luck, and as a result I have been extra aware of my neck/throat all week.
Now I'm stuck with her (yes, that doesn't sound very nice of me but you try living with your annoying mother for 2 years and you will say it too) and am wondering how this whole thing is going to play out over the next few years. She is always out of breath when she gets up in the morning, even though she has been on an oxygen concentrator all night. I know from reading that eventually there will be a CO2 problem when her lungs can't get rid of it anymore.
It was interesting to read everyone's comments. I have had a chronic cough for about six or seven years. I remember all too well the Easter season when my allergist finally prescribed Tussionex Pennikinetic (5 ml AM/PM - 1 tsp.)and just like our writer - rflchamps - in less than fifteen minutes I had a clear head, clear throat and could take a breath without "guarding" against a cough.
Even after you state your reason for the post and ask for them not to shoot the messenger you still get the same response. I sometimes wonder how much brain damage is done with TX .
There are several of us on here who have a similar eye complaint: seeing a bright flash, like the afterimage of a flash bulb, when we blink, and sometimes, on upgaze. This is transient symptom for most of us, lasting anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. When the "spot" in our visual field passes over a dark background, the spot appears light. When the spot passes over a light background, it appears dark.
Yes, you definitely do need to see a doctor again, as you may have pneumonia. Another consideration would be whooping cough (pertussis) with which the cough may persist for weeks or even months. It is almost a week since you went to urgent care. That 3 days later (“still coughing a lot and a low grade fever.”) suggests that you are clinically worse despite the antibiotic therapy and this could be a sign of complicated pneumonia.
hi,my seven months old baby had a cough two weeks ago and he was given amoxillin now the cough has started again and i took him to the doctor today and he gave him same amoxillin,is there any effects of taking the antibabiotic within two-three weeks?
I can breath a little better now, but I am still spitting up the blood. It went away for about seven weeks and I thought I was improving, but now it is back again. I saw my doctor in January and she said to let it go for a little while and see if it improves. My next appointment is in April. I had my last CT scan in January and it still showed inflamation in my lung. For the last week I have had blood coming up, while I am sleeping. This has been happening for the past two nights.
I have now had a cough for seven weeks. This started 5 days after an unrelated operation. The cough worsened and I started vomiting when coughing. Although I am now coughing less, I have lost my voice which means I cannot work. My chest hurts because of the strain on my muscles. My GP has listened to my chest and says that it is clear. I have asthma but this is not related to this as far as I am aware.

Thank you for the response. I have the traditional ache type of cramp on a regular basis that I'm not worried about. This is a sharp intense pull. Is that still considered just a cramp?
It took me four days to work up the nerve to call you, but now, all I can think is, I am SO GLAD I did! Our first date--what a disaster for me, lol. I was sick and coughing and had a perpetual snotty nose and no voice and my food kept doing crazy things (darn cheese sticks and slippery lettuce) and landing in my lap and such, and then to top it all off, I knocked a knot into my forehead as I got out of your car.
I am currently about seven and a half weeks pregnant. Is there anything I can take for my cold?
i have had a cold for seven weeks. started with chest congestion and cough then moved to sinuses. lots of pressure in cheek bones and behind eyes. lots of fluid thru coughing and nose, was green now is clear. occassional ear clogging as well. took augment during fourth week for ten days. no relief of symptoms. never had a cold last more than a few days ever. i am normal healthy 34 yr old woman...now what?
We were told this was probably due to inflammation caused by the infection. Now he is seven. He got a small pneumonia (one or two crackles before coughing) which we thought had been resolved by antibiotics as his fever went away and he felt much better. His cough did not go away after another 2 weeks, and in fact sounded wetter, so we went back to the doctor. She said both lungs were full of mucus and she felt inflammation caused him to be unable to clear this out.
I have never had any problems (no spotting, no weight gain, etc.) Seven weeks ago, though, I started spotting and it has not stopped since. It's mainly a brownish blood as opposed to bright red "period" blood. I have also had lower back pain, asthma-like symptoms (wheezing, coughing middle of the night), and my stomach feels bloated and "gassy". Does this seem in line with possible ovarian problems that require a trip to the doctor?
