184674 tn?1360860493 When I brought him in for the night, he was coughing and throwing up watery liquid, but no dog food or grass. I also noticed when I fed him at 7:00 that he had thrown up twice recently in the utility room where I keep the dog food, and each watery puddle looked under two hours old, meaning he must've vomited twice between 5 and 6 p.m. He vomited early this morning, around 4 a.m. and this time, it was a brownish color, but still clear.
1380814 tn?1285965586 About a month ago my dog was throwing up stomach bile like once or twice a week, then it stopped for a while. I tried to get my mom to take her to the vet but she didn't think it was anything to worry about. Lately she's been puking up nothing, like she dry-heaves and makes a coughing noise as she does it. But she's still her normal-self, hyper and energetic. She vomited today and there was blood in it, even though it was barely noticeable. Is this serious?
Avatar f tn She could have something called bilious vomiting syndrome. Even though it's called bilious vomiting syndrome, it's not an actual vomiting that brings up the foam, it's a gagging cough. This happens in some dogs when they first wake up, the stomach is empty from not eating all night and there is a buildup of acid. You can try an experiment to see if this is what it is - try feeding your dog a small snack late at night or, if you wake up during the night, give her a cookie or two.

Avatar m tn We have a similar problem with our dog, is pretty old, his back legs are very weak, he is coughing and vomiting, we can't afford to going to the vets, I am afraid that in view of his age, one trip only might have to be sufficient, why leave him to suffer in his old age, put him to sleep while he is still free from pain and suffering.
Avatar m tn Does she cough and wretch, or does she have the full stomach spasms and full body involvement associated with vomiting? If it is actually vomiting, she may be drinking water too quickly. If it's wretching/coughing it may be the throat, lungs or esophagus. A major concern with loss of appetite and vomiting would be bloat or obstruction. Obstruction can happen even with food, if she has a history of digestive problems. You didn't mention if she's having normal bowel movements.
Avatar n tn (When the stomach basically twists on itself) The symptoms of that are usually attempts to vomit (which could possibly sound like hacking or coughing) -which do not result in vomiting, but occasionally a small amount of white foamy substance can be brought up. I may have been on the wrong track, and this is more related to his throat or lungs....but a stomach torsion is a huge emergency.
Avatar m tn Have there been any other symptoms -such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughing or retching, unusual tiredness? Any dog who normally has a good appetite and isn't too faddy with food, will eat. A sudden change in appetite usually means your dog isn't feeling well. He could have some pain somewhere. Pain can cause a dog to lose his appetite. If he doesn't start eating within 1 day or if there are any other symptoms at all, I would take him for a good check up with the vet.
Avatar f tn My tiny four pound Maltese/Poodle cross has been coughing and I was wondering if someone has any ideas. He is about 8 1/2 and has had issues with his behavoir. He won't let us have him groomed without him trying to bite us or get his nails trimmed, so every four months or so we have to have him knocked out to have this done. I wasn't sure if this was some of his problem from the stuff they give him or what, but he does it alot especially at night.
Avatar m tn We asked our other dog to go to the dog park around noon and the patient clearly wanted to go (ran to the door with his toy, tail wagging). At the park he was running and wasnt even coughing until evening. He was coughing again yesterday evening and a bit overnight. I was watching him breathe and his breathing is normal (about 30-40 breaths a minute), he doesnt seem to be struggling when he breathes, just a cough/hack. I cant reeally hear rattling in his lungs but i do hear it in his throat.
4487133 tn?1355332064 My 15 month old English Bulldog has been vomiting for about 6 weeks now (daily, sometimes twice daily). If it is after a meal, then she throws up the entire meal. If it is not near a meal, then she throws up a large amount of bile colored drool. She eats only her recommended amount of Innova-Weight Control dog food twice daily (given to her in small amounts at a time) - No table food at all. She has been taking half a tab (37.
Avatar n tn I have never had a pet, but always wanted a little dog...my husband surprised me w/a Chihuahua from the humane society age 3 & all black w/brown spots around his feet! When he first came, he was sickly, coughing, not eating a lot, then not eating @ all...we took him to the vet & found out he had kennel cough! He has taken ALL his antibiotics, but still has a cough when he first wakes up!
Avatar f tn I am 8 weeks today. For the past few weeks i have been coughing up blood. This morning i actually threw up blood. What should i do?
Avatar n tn My dog has not been eating for couple of days and she does not seem like she wants to eat and i tried to force her to drink some milk and water and she keeps on gagging and coughing what could be causing that ?
4121556 tn?1350428560 My dog coughs as though he has something stuck somewhere, I cannot see anything, he eats quite well, Could it be lung worms or could it be a tumour? he often vomits.bile.He is old now, and his back legs are going, should he be put to sleep? euthenasia?
1321692 tn?1304298071 My dog is a boxer female. She is about 8 or 9 years old. Last night she was suffering from a case of dry heaves. She has no other symptoms and isn't in any pain. The dry heaves ended sometime in the morning. She seems fine now. Should I be worried?
Avatar m tn The vet then did various x-rays, a barium meal and an ultrasound but still nothing showed up. She was still not eating and was vomiting what looked like water. The vet is at a loss as to what caused this. There has been no disruption to routines or major changes in food, the other dog and the cat are both fine. She wanted to eat but when you fed her she walked away. It seems like she was just refusing food altogether.
Avatar f tn My 8 year old Shitzu has been coughing alot (like she has a hairball) and sometimes she goes into attacks that she can't breath. It is very scary, my son was home with her the other night and she went into a spell and he was freaking out. He thought she was dying and I understand how scary it was for him because the same thing happen to me a few times. she was laying down next to me on the couch sleeping and then all of a sudden she started gasping for breath.
Avatar m tn My 5 year old miniature schnauzer is 5 years old. She has started coughing and is becoming more frequent. It is almost a panting cough? She also has a bad odor. Which has been going on for a month or two.(odor). I have listened to her chest with a stethescope and she is breathing fast and it sounds thick and dry. I thoguht it was maybe just a case of dust because we mulched leaves (oak and pecan) and we didn't have a bag on the mower and it got pretty dusty.
Avatar f tn I have a 14 month old shepherd and she normally doesn't eat the stuffing in her dog toys and I've been good at throwing it in the garbage. But I don't know if maybe she got a small piece of it. She was dry heaving one day and coughing up white phlegm I believe and then the next day all day she was fine. The third day a little bit of dry heaving then she was fine, and today just a slight dry heave.
Avatar m tn Is he unwell in other ways -such as refusing to eat, drink, unable to pee and poop? Showing signs of pain? Or any other symptoms? Coughing....vomiting....diarrhea....anything else? Dogs won't move or can't get up sometimes because of all sorts of different health reasons...some very serious indeed, and some which can easily be helped with pain relief, time and rest. It's impossible or us to know if he's just pulled a muscle while playing....
Avatar m tn This could be something more serious, of course. Any chance your dog may have ingested something in the house or outside? Is the dog eating, drinking, any vomiting or diarrhea, eating and drinking? If this continues and especially if the dog shows any other signs, a trip to your Vet is warranted.
Avatar m tn Side Effects In dogs, common side effects of taking cephalexin are diarrhea and vomiting. A dog may experience rapid breathing, hyperactivity or drooling. Allergic reaction may include itching, scratching, swelling or a rash. Serious side effects include shock or seizures. Side effects are rare, however, according to PetEducation.com.
Avatar f tn Missy dog vomits when she eats or drinks. She can only keep down white rice and small amounts of water at a time. Her stool is normal and stomach isn't hard. I am concerned at she can't continue to just eat rice. I tried boiling hamburer and putting a little in the rice but she vomited that too.
Avatar n tn I would take her to her physician as soon as you are able, it is certainly not healthy for her to keep coughing and vomiting. The coughing will hurt her insides if it is too strong and vomiting will prevent her from getting her much needed nutrients from food, etc. I really am not able to tell you what it is, it could be a number of things, and, as I said, it would be best if she saw a doctor. Please let me know the outcome, I know she must be miserable.
184674 tn?1360860493 She said that after I had left her house yesterday afternoon that he started coughing, panting and shaking, and it came on suddenly, so she rushed him to the vet. After x-rays and an EKG, the vet said he was having severe heart failure and his lungs were rapidly filling up with fluid. His heart had enlarged and "flopped over," as my mom said the vet worded it. I'm still in shock about it. I was at her house yesterday afternoon and he was wandering around, bright-eyed and alert.
