coughing

I have a 17 year old mixed breed, 52 lb dog "Bob", I will try to make this as short and to the point as possible. Bob was diagnosised last year with a mass in his chest by his trachea, we did not have further testing done because of age. The only way it was found is through X-ray when we took him in for a cough. Evidently it is no cancer, thank goodness because nothing has changed as far as coughing or his weight.
We took her to the vet and she was given one shot of cortisone, anti-histamine, more Frontline down her back and a booster shot of vitamins. The next morning my poor dog was panting and coughing internally (much like kennel cough but without the gagging). She was also a little restless and had a swollen tummy. In a panic I phoned our vet and was told 'hang in here - she will calm down'.
Thank you for your comments. Actually, no, I'm not doing very well with this to be honest. Lucy was long ago by a trainer determined to be a "prodigy dog", meaning, one that leans certain things almost instantly by observation. The slang many use would be a "Lassie dog" type of dog.
I never had a dog. My husband wanted the dog and said he would take care of it, but then he leaves the house and I don't know what to do. My cat just died, and I'm still upset about that. We asked many questions before we got this dog--we wanted mellow, trained, easy to care for, small, healthy. We paid $200 and the girl assured us he was healthy, very well behaved. Since we got him three days ago he has been throwing up, diareeah, sneezing and coughing.
Since your vet did a very thorough workup, my guess is this is a frustrated dog dreaming out loud. I had a dog very like yours who started howling in her sleep around the same age. Very scary stuff there! As it turned out, she needed proper exercise outside her own territory. Once I started a daily walking program, she calmed right down and we all slept in silence again. If you already walk your dog daily, you may need to add an extra one. Can't hurt - might help!
They are both so dang cute and wonderful and snuggly and funny, so I can't help but brag about them! I was just going through some recent pictures I've taken of the two, and thinking to myself how thankful and blessed I am to have such perfectly beautiful, healthy boys who both bring me so much joy. I took some recent pictures of Greydon this weekend, and now that he's turning into Mr.
I have a wonderful, sweet Newfoundland dog, and today she's glued to me. She's a loving, affectionate dog at the best of times. She like to be close, and sleeps at the foot of our bed (on the floor, cause she's too big to be on the bed). She tends to stay close at the best of times, but today, in particular, she's laying right beside the computer chair. Her paw in touching my foot, and she keeps looking up at me, "checking" on me.
' and she kept telling me how we needed our space (dh and I) and that they need to do some stuff to their house... and my dog (Pochacco.... don't ask me about that name... lol) is all by himself down there (my bff takes him). God! I wish we would live closer! sometimes I wonder how my life would be if I would have stayed in Mex and married a guy down there... I wouldn't have Maddie! I wouldn't have my dh.... =( I mean, all and all, he's a pain in the @$$ but, he's MY pain in the @$$! lol....
What colour is this? White? or yellowish? Is she gagging, coughing? Hacking up? That could be kennel cough. If not, is she showing any signs of being unwell? Apart from obviously being disoriented by the situation, and probably tired? If she keeps vomiting, shows any unwell signs or symptoms, refuses food, or eats, and that comes up too, then I wouldn't hesitate to take her to be checked over at the vet's ASAP.
final stage is cirrhosis of the liver...you need a biopsy to find that out..i think you gotta get out of there...having no money is better then dealing with that stuff..maybe make a plan..one that takes a few months...the good thing is it's coming up on summer..a great time to get out...start getting all your stuff together...see a laywer..at least get some advise..maybe get some pictures...maybe not...the main thing is get out...you can lose every material thing and get going again..
I am currently on 30 mg of prednisone and I am coughing again. I have so many questions about the disease and no on has been able to answer them. I have looked at other pictures of xrays of Sarcoidosis and I haven't seen one as dense as mine but my Doctors say that mine's not bad... They want me to take vitamin D and Calcium but after I started I began getting leg and hand/ arm cramps again... Now I am confused about my care...
I'm getting ready for my first class, and hoping we don't have TOO many parents in for American Education week. I don't mind them being in my room, but I hate the whole "dog and pony show" thing we're expected to do. Bleck.
Lately she has needed the Albuteral more and more due to wheezing in her chest and coughing. I am waiting now on a doctor call back but just looking for any mom's out there who have babies with Asthma and what their babies take for it? I stopped her bethanical (spell) on my own a month ago due to side effects. I think that may have somethign to do with the wheezing and also - we go to the beach every weekend and it seems worse down there? Would there be a reason why?
I'm a little moody this morning because one of my dogs ate a bone last night and must of got a little bit stuck in his throat because he was coughing all night long. He's a big 80 pound dog so it's not like a little yak it's this shake the floor wake you up cough. I only got about 4 hours of sleep and it's got me on edge already. I'm going to try really hard not to have some crazy pregnant lady outburst today. Other than that things are good.
Was the anesthesia safe for a dog with compromised kidneys...? You mentioned that your dog was given antibiotics...do they think that perhaps the high blood values are due to an infection...and not kidney related...? You may want to have his blood values checked again, a week or two after the antibiotics are done, and you have been doing SubQ's. Long story short....you may be able to lower his blood values, and he may be able to live comfortably for months to a year or more.
My wife's behavior has changed since I filed for divorce. She started coughing. Now she is hanging heavier, trying to make me take care of her. I understand psychosomatic illnesses, but I’m afraid she’ll arrange herself a fine cancer to force me to stop the divorce. She is acting in a most infantile way. Baby talking to me, telling me she loves what I cooked for her because her mother used to make it. She uses that baby talk I hate.
I was really bad the first time, barely could do anything. Surely you've went online and seen pictures and pictures from the dr's office if they stuck the tube down your throat they will show you visions of your throat and how closed up it's getting??? Yes, been there, done that and it's getting old and annoying. So, I'm going in for #3 in a couple weeks. The first surgery was laser, outpatient, sore throat a couple days, and your somewhat back to normal.
It's possible he has had a tummy upset which has nothing whatsoever to do with his condition? That can happen, even with a dog who is quite sick. They can get all the usual little upsets as well! Just maybe now his tummy is settled he'll be better? I wouldn't suggest putting a dog to sleep who gets up early looking for his breakfast, and then wolfs down some chicken. Sounds like he has a way to go yet. It's also possible he is having some side effects from his medication?
You know I'm feeling this way! lol I did get a much better night's sleep last night and slept in today. I leave for my appointment in an hour so wish me luck! lol Also...last night when I was complaining about the cyst hurting...Jeremy had a really good point. I think it may help you with your doc too! He says to me "Jessica, you need to demand an ultrasound to have that looked at tomorrow" And of course, I'm like...uh yeah. I'm not that demanding.
I can tell you that our dogs know how much we love them, and if they knew how much we were greiving....they would greive with us. I do not want my dog to greive with me, any more than I would have wanted her to suffer for me. Grieving is suffering. I can not offer you and magic words, because there are none. But I can offer my understanding of your emotions. I can also offer an open ear....so please do not hesitate to reply.....Please take comfort, in knowing that someone does understand....
For those who don't know, I started a chart, mostly of triple treaters in the summer. You can go to my profile and they are in pictures. I hope everyone can look to see where I was and update me from there. If you aren't on the chart, please post in this thread -- Beginning vl Liver biopsy result (grade and stage) Previous treatment info (responder relapser, nonresponder...

Just after Christmas 07 my 40mg 2x a day started, then I caught a virus, and was very ill, and it just would not go away, nausea, aches and pains all over, I blamed it all on this virus, never really suspecting the real culprit, yes you know don't you, it was because I had cut down on the oxycontin, and my body was craving it, this went on for 7 weeks, until one day it dawned on me what it was, by this time I had become tired all the time, getting up early and doing nothing, then backwards an
I'd walk across the room and be out of breath. Sat morning, I woke up sick as a dog--thought what a great thing! Pills made me sick! HOOray! I won't want to go back so readily.... well I was sick as a dog all day Sat and Sun. Spent most of Sat in hot baths. Very nauseas, and pain in my stomach. Still very very achey all over. Sun had progressed to very little nausea, stomach just felt sore; but extreme fatigue and tiredness.
Gosh, candida is coming out of me EVERY day, but the coughing and sneezing persists. I don't even notice a DECREASE in symptoms, but since it is coming out of me I will keep at it. I might just have a ton of candida. It might be that I need to repopulate my gut with good bacteria which I will do after I've gotten rid of more candida. I took a bunch of anti-fungals last night and got a really bad stomach ache, which I think is a good sign that they are working.
I go in tomorrow afternoon for my post-op and stitch removal. I will also get to see my pictures. I have them take pictures so I can see what went on. I also get an op report. I am a bit of a control freak that way. I don't want to be conscious for any part of it, but I want to know what happened while I was out. I know you want to freak out at the thought of the unknown, but try to think about what exactly how the cysts are affecting you and don't make or break on the fear.
