Common Questions and Answers about Coughing cat vet

coughing

Avatar n tn My 8 year old cat recently started coughing, not the ususal hair ball stuff, and I can hear him breath. His lung sound "wet" . I started giving him some over the counter hairball remedy and think he may have aspirated some liquid. Today is Sunday. My vet is not open today but will take him to emergency if I have to. He is drinking and eating, his gums are pink. Should I go to emergency?
Avatar f tn Take your cat to the vet immediately. I had 1 cat who breathed oddly and we thought he was purring and we realised he wasn't and it turned out he had a lung tumor; and another cat who caught an upper respiratory inf from my other 2 and coughed up phlegm-i didn't know that coughing is NOT NORMAL till i took him and found out he had pneumonia.
1232362 tn?1333135406 Please know that coughing (unles it's a hairball) or panting is NOT ok in your cat. We had an upper resp, virus go through our house and 2 cats were fine. The 3rd I thought had mucus in his throat or trouble breathing due to stuffy nose like the rest and didn't realise his distress till he coughed up a frightening gob of green phlegm. Bob spent last night @ the vet w/pneumonia. happily (so far-say prayers for my boy) all signs looking good for him and he's coming home tonight.
Avatar f tn Got anabiotic's Amoxi-drop how long should it take to work for the coughing in on sounds she makes. Took my kitty to the vet after she ate my dogs pain pill and I had to induce vomiting under vet recommendation. Some of the fluids got in lungs and it caused walking pneumonia.
1371879 tn?1278467037 s not skin cancer(fingers crossed), your vet can tell you about a safe sunblock lotion that is safe for your cat to put on his ears and nose. I bet you'd be able to use an OTC sunblock, but I have no idea which brands are safe. Best wishes to you! Please keep us updated! We LOVE to help and we LOVE updates on the forum!
Avatar m tn My cat is currently having the same problems, though i don't think she is having any joint problems and she is only three years old. I just wanted to know what your cat had and how he is doing today. I'm very worried for my cat and we are going to take her to the vet tomorrow.
Avatar m tn Hello and welcome...This sounds like an abscess. You'll want your vet to treat it before it gets out of control. Does your boy go outside? If so, he may of gotten into a scuffle with another cat. This is often how abscess happen...from an infected scratch or bite. I know hydrogen peroxide can be safely used, however, what I don't know is if that in itself will take care of it. Best of luck and please keep us posted!
Avatar f tn t cleared up take your cat into the vet. We have a cat (Roxy) who sneezes too, but this is normal for her and we think she's allergic to other cats - LOL!!!! Good luck and let us know what you find out!
Avatar n tn My cat recently was spayed. Next morning she was coughing (like hairball cough). No fever. Not eating. She was put on pencillin. She is still coughing 3 days later and is barely eating. Could she have aspiration pneumonia and was this caused by the anesthesia? Should I worry?
1938766 tn?1323716554 i always fed my cat iams hairball control and there is also a tube of cat laxative that i get from the vet. you squeeze out about an inch long amount every day or 2 and it keeps him from coughing up hairballs. it worked great for my cat i hope it works for yours too.
Avatar n tn Mine had all gotten URI and one started to cough; what my vet told me was as long as everything is clear, keep your cat comfy, hydrated and eating. If any mucus from nose or eyes turns yellow or green, antibiotics are needed. What he didn't say was coughing is a sign of danger and should not be ignored-one of mine started to cough but wasn't producing anything for a few days until sudddenly he coughed up a huge gob of phlegm; he had pneumonia. Happily we were abie to save him.
Avatar f tn My cat Missy has been sneaking out yesterday we noticed a bump on her head and now she keeps making the coughing up fur ball noise but it sounds like trying to get air. I dont know what to do??
Avatar f tn Thank you. I called the Vet and was told to stop the medication. I will take her back for another visit. I was syringe feeding her not tube feeding. I was told she had some kind of infection and needed clavamox to get rid of it.
Avatar f tn My 16 year old cat has been coughing up alot for severl months now. He usually gets rid of hairballs but not always. Could he be sick or just having a harder time getting rid of hairballs.
996946 tn?1503249112 How scary for you, Linda! I can understand your concern. How does Aramis seem? You might give your vet a call with this question since I know inhaling like that could certainly cause a problem. Other than that, the introductions went well? I'm glad you're home and Tommy got to meet everyone. A cat coughing is such a scary sound, isn't it. Jade was coughing way in the backyard a few weeks ago and I could hear her in the house and went running!
Avatar f tn Im a waitress and depend on my tips from night to night and buisness has been slow, and the vet doesnt do payment plans. So I cant afford to take my cat to the vet now. I just want to know how long does a cat cold last and what are some symptoms of something more serious like pneumonia?
Avatar f tn My cat was coughing and breathing heavy. I took her to the Vet and after they took X-Ray I was told she has to be under medication for two weeks. I started her on Clavamox 15 ML but after couple of days I noticed she vomits after each intake. I was told by the Vet to give her Metochlopramide 5 MG first and wait 20 minutes before giving her Clavamox. She is not eating food and I am giving her Garbor baby food (chicken and rice) along with Clavamox. I noticed she still vomits after each intake.
Avatar n tn But the last 3 weeks or so one of the starts to wheez as if something was stuck in their throats (much like a cat sounds when they cough up a hairball). They do this for a few seconds and then they are fine. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
611067 tn?1458591483 My poor babies all have severe head colds. The vet put them on amoxicilin to help to prevent a secondary infection. But, I'm a worried mama! My tiniest kitten is having the worst trouble. She is coughing badly and having a struggle . . .we are taking her back to the vet tomorrow. I'm fearful it could be moving to her chest! What else can I do to help them with a cold? Anything this mama can do - I'll do!
Avatar f tn Have you tried give your cat a laxertives for your male cat? have you also tried exercising his legs for him while he is laying down?
Avatar n tn Get your kitty to an emergency vet, no one online could ever examine or diagnose, only a VET can! Poor kitty, he needs you to take him to your vet right away!
Avatar f tn I took my kitty "Bear" to the Vet, about his "dry heaving" aka :coughing. I was concerned it was asthma. Well, the vet isn't totally sure what's wrong. They took blood, twice...and did a chest x-ray. His bronchiole's are a little enlarged, but his blood work was good. They are testing for heart worm, even though he's an indoor cat, & cat's don't usally get this...according to my Vet?!
Avatar m tn my 4yr old golden retriever is constantly sniffing where my 13yr old bengal cat has been. They are both males and the cat has been spayed. My cat has had a cough or asthma for over a year now. Last year I took him to the vet where they did all sorts of tests, bloodwork, xrays & scans etc. It was very expensive & my cat was petrified over the few days they did all this. The vet said his heart looked unusual but it was fine. He gave me theophylline for the cough which did help.
Avatar f tn t worry too much about your cat, unless you see some physical symptoms-difficulty swallowing, coughing, or choking. If you don't see any symptoms, then your kitty is just normal. Honestly, nothing to worry about!!
Avatar m tn My cat has constipation, I believe. She hasn't passed any stool since morning as per her routine to do so every morning. I gave her some yogurt mixed with milk and sugar to loosen her stomach after which she puked the second time. She puked cat food the first time. I gave her yogurt mixed with milk and sugar which was wrong on my part as the online vet told me dairy products make it worse. After she took it she started sneezing and coughing and then puked a lump of stool.
Avatar f tn There is also salmon oil, Taurine powder and NuVet powder mixed in with his food daily. Could the coughing be caused by the food? I do have another cat that I feed a grain free dry food to and I also mix in the salmon oil, Traurine and NuVet powders to her food. I tried mixing in some of the dry food with his normal food a couple times to see if he would take it because I wanted to switch him to that but he absolutely refuses to eat it.
Avatar f tn My cat had this respiratory infection, too, right after I adopted her from the pound. It's common there. She had it bad. I had to go back and get antibiotics a few times. It finally just had to work out of her system. I think they will only do about 2 or 3 rounds of antibiotics because any more than that it won't work anymore. It's like humans who can build up a tolerance. I was worried about her because she was sick for a couple of months but she finally pulled through.
