My 8 year old cat recently started coughing, not the ususal hair ball stuff, and I can hear him breath. His lung sound "wet" . I started giving him some over the counter hairball remedy and think he may have aspirated some liquid. Today is Sunday. My vet is not open today but will take him to emergency if I have to. He is drinking and eating, his gums are pink. Should I go to emergency?
I have been coughing for about 7 years. I have been to 3 doctors and been on meds for post nasal drip, asthma. I had my thyroid out in Oct; because it was enlarged and closing up my trachia but that didn't help. Have had xrays and cat scans and everything looks good. It seems to coming from my throat area. sometimes i cough so hard that i almost pass out. I'm really at wits end. Any suggestions?
NO! Especially at that age. Stay away from the cats and if it were my grandchild? I would get rid of the cat. Dogs can sometimes be worse than cats too.
Now that I am older I will take an antihistamine and I'm usually okay if I don't stay too long, but as an adult I know the cues and know when to leave. A four year old is much too young.
I remember spending summer weekends at my friends house and being up ALL night long coughing and coughing and coughing. I'm allergic to dogs!
My 7 year old, female cat was acting normal and then all of the sudden she started coughing. She had her head low when she coughed. Nothing came up. It only lasted a minute or so (although it felt a lot longer). She immediately went back to normal and appears to be fine now. I've been at school for the past few weeks and she's been staying with my parents, so I don't know if this has been happening frequently or not.
do you have an air purifier?? The older ones would emit "ozone" and that can cause lots of coughing also it can lead to cancer. We had a dog die from basically lung cancer caused by this machine. We found out about the cause when our friends got an air purifier and their dogs all started coughing within a week of them starting to use it, took it out of the house and all the dogs STOPPED coughing. I wish there was a way to get this info out to everybody.
Thay have tested her for acid refux, astma, had a cat scan, and xrays of her lungs. Still nothing they keep putting her on alot of meds, and nothing has worked. Neither of them are getting any sleep because she is up all night. Its even affecting her at school. What suggestions can you give me on what or even where to take her. Thanks

My cat has a fluid pocket under his chin that keeps refilling when drained. We have drained it twice now about a week apart. It has no odor and is clear, mucus type fluid. It doesn't seem to hurt him. He eats and drinks normal. Has no discharge or bad odor to his breath. No sneezing or coughing. Any ideas???
Hi! I have a male cat who is about 7 years old. He is fixed, and weighs about 13 lbs. He was fine literally two days ago. Yesterday, however, he spend the entire day coughing. He spent yesterday (and is currently) laying by the heater. He is not coughing nearly as much today, I have only heard him once. He is eating, drinking, and playing like normal. He does seem to be breathing harder than normal, though it does not appear as if he is struggling or gasping for air.
Although I am a smoker I had been attributing recent episodes of breathlessness with allergies. Because if my cat had been in my room and I go to bed I will awake coughing with my nostrils closed up so I would get up take Nyquil and go back to sleep. Everytime that would happen during the day if I tried to nap it would always be when the cat was lying near and during the day when the problem would arise I would take Dayquil and my nostril opens and the coughing would cease.
An asthma flare can cause you to lose your voice. It could also just be your allergies and PND or irritation from coughing.
Advair discus (realy any dry powder inhaler) has larger particles than MDI inhalers that land on the vocal cords and irritate them causing you to be hoarse. I would suggest that you ask your docotr about MDI alternatives. Advair Hfa is one. Others include Symbicort and Dulera.

For the last few months, I have had a tickle in my throat which leads to coughing and constant clearing of my throat. It's not painful, but bothersome for me and those around me. At first I thought it was due to hay fever, but it's been going on much too long.
My cat Missy has been sneaking out yesterday we noticed a bump on her head and now she keeps making the coughing up fur ball noise but it sounds like trying to get air. I dont know what to do??
m wheezing like crazy, coughing up mucus constantly, getting a really tight chest, and it also feels like my ribs are bruised as soon as I start coughing. Where I have moved to is also right next to a very busy 3 lane road which is making me wonder.. Is it the kitten? or the busy road? or the smoking finally catching up with me? I've changed all my bedding to anti-allergy stuff, I change the bed sheets every few days, I don't have carpet. I regulary wipe down surfaces for dust.
