I would recommend you discus acid reflux with your doctor. There is a type of acid reflux (larygealpharyngeal reflux) that does not cause the typical acid reflux symptoms of heart burn. For about a year, I have had a continual problem with coughing and clearing my throat that is so bad, that I sometimes cannot speak at public functions (part of my job.) My doctor says maybe it is post nasal drip but a daily nasal steroid spray and daily Zyrtec didnt help.

I was just wondering if anyone has the reason this occurs after the 3 years since this question was first asked? When I vomit I do strain alot and dry-heave. I do not actually throw the blood up but the blood always occurs after vomiting...while I spit.
It sounds very much like acid reflux. The only symptoms that I had was coughing and mucus. Went to lung dr and had all the tests everything ok there. Back to GI dr. who didn't think it was reflux because no pain only coughing. Had all the test including 24 hr ph test (fun) which showed I was coughing when I had acid reflux. My cough was so hard that it was causing other problems like blood pressure.
My mother has been coughing constantly for the past 3 to 4 months and brings up a lot of clear phlegm, she has disturbed sleep because of this and the constant coughing is wearing her out and makes her really tired.
I feel so helpless to see hear suffering this way.
I have been coughing for the last 4 months sometimes the cough is thick yellowish and other times its clear. My GP has given me nasal spray, omerperzole and now am on antibiotics. Despite all this the cough is not going away. What could be the problem?
I have been coughing up phlegm daily for around 7 years. I've tried antibiotics several times without any success. I've had x-rays and mri scans but nothing showed up. Around 18 months ago my voice started to change. I was then prescribed omeprazole 20 mg capsules which make a slight difference and my voice returned to normal. But I still have to tap my chest and often have to get someone to hit my back to dislodge the phlegm which is milky white/ beige globules and quite a lot of it.
So, for 3 months now, I've been coughing. Sometimes a lot, and sometimes, like right now, I just get random tickles in my troat with results in coughing.
I've had chest pain before within these 3 months, but it went away. Now it's back, and it's a bid odd. Sometimes it's a burning sensation with over the counter meds for acid reflux can take care of, and sometimes it's random tightness/sharp stings both medial and lateral on my chest. Especially when bending over.
Anybody experiancing reflux while sleeping? I am 32 weeks and when I am asleep I wake up struggling to breathe and a dry mouth I already take tabs for intergestion from my dr but it doesnt completely stop it.... can anyone help?
For the past 3 weeks, about half the times I have eaten I have coughed and gagged for a few minutes. I get a feeling in my throat that makes me want to cough. I cough so hard that I gag and feel like I can't breathe. It all started back when I had a virus (100.4 degree temperature, migraines that wouldn't go away with pain meds, and the coughing/gagging). I am 68 yrs old with the usual middle age problems. Controlled diabetes, controlled high blood pressure, acid reflux and heart disease. I went to the doctor with this problem 2 years ago. He order a stress test which I failed. 4 stents later I was pronounced cured. Unfortunately, this symptom persists. As I near orgasm it feels as though I am getting fluid in my lungs and begin coughing up very thin clear mucus. This can continue for up to 1/2 hr.
I have been coughing for about 7 years. I have been to 3 doctors and been on meds for post nasal drip, asthma. I had my thyroid out in Oct; because it was enlarged and closing up my trachia but that didn't help. Have had xrays and cat scans and everything looks good. It seems to coming from my throat area. sometimes i cough so hard that i almost pass out. I'm really at wits end. Any suggestions?
