coughing

Avatar m tn CA125 is a marker test for ovarian cancer, no? C reactive protein increases when there is too much inflammation in your body. Kind of strange tests. And both were normal. So, what about a simple virus? You know that medication isn't really going to affect a virus, it has to run its course. Coughs, phlegm are normal with a virus. Silent acid reflux is what they are worried about or you are worried about since you bring up gerd? It can cause a cough, wheezing and sore throat.

Avatar m tn Has anyone found any help for this "chronic cough" condition??? This discussion is related to Coughing, coughing, coughing!!.
Avatar f tn Symptoms seem similar to whooping Cough just less surver whoops and coughing fits, although I did manage to injure my lower back while coughing. I've been to the doctors 3 times to get this sorted. On the second time they tested for whopping cough and on the third time they told me it wasnt whooping cough by the blood test but that I should make another apointment to get some other tests done such as an xray. My lungs hurt but i'm not sure if thats muscular or not.
Avatar n tn The other causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus and spill into the wind pipe causing cough. Treatment with antacids will help neutralize the acids. Post nasal drips can occur with sinusitis and throat infections. Giving up cigarettes will abolish smoker's cough in 90% of people.
Avatar f tn This used to happen to me before I even knew I had GERD. I would wake up in coughing fits and gasping for air. About a month later, I was diagnosed with GERD/LPR and put 2 and 2 together, and realized that's what all that was about.
Avatar f tn I am pregnant therefore I have acid reflux or gerd. I was so thankful to come upon this issue while on google! I have always, well since I was about 16, seemed to spit up blood after vomiting. I was just wondering if anyone has the reason this occurs after the 3 years since this question was first asked? When I vomit I do strain alot and dry-heave. I do not actually throw the blood up but the blood always occurs after vomiting...while I spit.
Avatar n tn However, there are many causes of sudden hard coughing, one of which is what is called Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or “heartburn”) that irritates the larynx (voice box). In these instances, treatment of the GERD can often reduce or stop the cough, and thus prevent the seizures. The seizures, by the way, can very much resemble epilepsy, as your description suggests. Your description, especially of his medications, also suggests that he may have COPD.
Avatar f tn My 18yr old son has acid reflux/ GERD he has changed his diet, he was taking Dexilant and has not seen a single change. He is constantly coughing and says he has the constant pain under left and right armpits,/Pectoral muscle. Can GERD cause this? I feel terrible and scared for him. He has been coughing for 4 weeks. I need to know, does anyone else have these symptoms? What did you find relieved them, if anything?

Avatar m tn Hemoptysis or coughing up blood could occur with tuberculosis. The other causes could be due to lung tumors, bleeding disorders or due to side effects of medications. Avatar n tn t do any tests or anything, i just told him my symptoms and he diagnosed GERD. However I had had blood tests for an unrelated IBS matter in November and the Doc said anything serious would have shown in them. I have been instructed to take them in the morning with a glass of water.
Avatar m tn I have a hiatus hernia and gerd and I take nexium. Recently I started coughing ?acid or saliva while sleeping. It is annoying and wakes me up. However I find it is relieved by emptying my bladder, why is this? Do I need to worry?
Avatar n tn For about a year, I have had a continual problem with coughing and clearing my throat that is so bad, that I sometimes cannot speak at public functions (part of my job.) Sometimes I cant even clear my throat no matter how hard I try. Every morning within 1 minute of getting out of bed, I have a coughing fit. However, I never have chest pain associated with heartburn. My doctor says maybe it is post nasal drip but a daily nasal steroid spray and daily Zyrtec didnt help.
19501685 tn?1478887405 I have been dealing with seeing blood in saliva (tiny specs - one or two) mostly in the morning. I have been to the doctors for CBCs, clotting times, have had 2 chest xrays and 1 chest CT scan - all normal per the pulmonologist. Never smoked. Suffer from Gerd but started taking omeprazole when this all started after going to the ER a couple of months ago. I also had an endoscopy done as well as a nasolaringoscopy where only irritation was found.

Avatar f tn GERD is a definite possibility....it can be silent but rises to irriate the vocal cords as well as small droplets get into the lungs and are an irritant. You might need a change in your PPI. I was having a lot of coughing, etc. and my doc changed me from Pilosec to Protonix and it made all the difference! That plus stopping the Advil I had been taking for my arthritis. Talk to your PCP about a change....
Avatar f tn Sounds a lot like GERD to me. Especially that you mention the burping part. Also there is a type of GERD that is presents with only a cough. Hence why it is called silent GERD. Your doctor could either do a test trial of reflux medications and see if it makes a difference.
Avatar m tn I have, on average, one coughing episode every hour or 2 that lasts anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. the coughing is very forceful and often produces mucous. these episodes are triggered by everything - eating, drinking, speaking - and have been a constant annoyance for most of my adult life. I have seen countless specialists, had every lung, asthma and allergy test known to traditional medicine, and have been told that my cough is not related to any anomaly in my lungs.

Avatar m tn I've been to multiple ERs for this gerd thing I get pressure in my throat no pain and discomfort in abdominal I was diagnosed with a small hiatual hernia back I'm 2011 with relux in esophagus this year the symptoms have gotten severe etc.
Avatar f tn Make an appointment to see your doctor so that you can get checked out for acid reflux and also asthma.
20293666 tn?1494392823 It started out with a few coughing episodes throughout the day and within the first week I felt like I was coughing every 3 minutes. The coughing got worse at night and right when I woke up. I have been to see the doctor 4 times. I have been told it was a cold, I have been told it was GERD / acid reflux and I have been told it was bronchitis. I have been on antibiotics and Prednisone twice. I was also given an albuterol inhaler and none of these things helped.
Avatar f tn It did not stop or diminish the coughing. Now I am vomiting from the coughing. Does this mean the Fundoplication is no longer intact? Nothing has stopped the coughing, even the medication given to chemotherapy patients.
Avatar n tn It could be other things, but gerd seems to be likely. What can cause gerd? From what you have said, stress could be the main culprit. What were you drinking when you get bloated? If it's anything carbonated or with caffiene in it then it makes the acid reflux worse. By not eating anything late at night before bed and adjusting what you eat, you can minimize it most likely. You could also try prilosec which anyone can buy OTC at the pharmacy.
