As a nurse and mom of two asthmatic kids I know respiratory illnesses- in particular the cough- can take up to six weeks to clear. It sounds like you have a lot of inflammation, which might be the cause of the irritation and coughing. It sounds like you need a steriod, but I'm not sure if you can take it while pregnant. I'm sure there's some out there that you could try.
