237053 tn?1258828426 For the last few days I've developed intermittant chest pain (left side) right where my heart it. It isn't severe, just kinda achy. It comes and goes, but I'm kinda concerned about it. I'm having it right now accompanied with air hunger. Very uncomfortable. Does anyone else get this? What causes it? I'm going in this morning to see dr and will be interested to see what she says. How can they deny that I am clearly having problems?
Avatar f tn Your doctor might refer to costochondritis by other names, including chest wall pain, costosternal syndrome and costosternal chondrodynia. When the pain of costochondritis is accompanied by swelling, it's referred to as Tietze syndrome. Most cases of costochondritis have no apparent cause. In these cases, treatment focuses on easing your pain while you wait for costochondritis to resolve on its own.
Avatar m tn I sometimes get chest pain which worsens when I touch my chest or move muscles of chest.
1009011 tn?1250693339 However I started getting this severe pain in my chest ( right side under my breast) about 5 days ago. I thought maybe that I pulled a muscle or something and that the pain would go away, but its not going away and my breathing seems to be more difficult and shorter. I cant lay on my right side at night as it shoots a sharp pain throughout my body. I just want to know what is going on. I was hoping someone could give me some advice or something and save me an expensive trip to the doctors!
Avatar m tn When ever I hold my breath and let all the wind out of my lungs and squeeze my chest it will give me pain on and around my sternum. If I turn my head sharply I will feel pain on the right side. But what hurts me the most is when I push down on my sternum or pull an object into my sternum. Nothing shows up in xrays and the doctors just keep sending me away without telling me anything. Does anyone know what this could be? It also does hurt in my back on the right side when everything hurts.
Avatar m tn For 5 years I have suffered with Chest pain that radiates into my back and down both arms during excertion. I have had stress test, heart cathorization, throat and stomach scoped. I've been tested to see if I am having spasms in my esophagus. I went to an orthopedic doctor who performed an mri of my neck and upper back. I did have two disc buldges in my neck but he said that would not cause the pain. The pain stops when I stop the excertion.
784382 tn?1376931040 i have chest pain....ER says Costochondritis, but what can i do for it at home?....is it serious?
Avatar m tn Uncomfortable but rarely dangerous causes for chest pain include acid reflux in the esophagus, peptic ulcer, inflammation of rib cartilage (costochondritis) or of the membranes covering the lungs (pleuritis), strained chest muscles, and a gallbladder disorder.
1448748 tn?1312956208 Costochondritis is an inflammation of the junctions where the upper ribs join with the cartilage that holds them to the breastbone or sternum. Several members here have been dx'd with this...... What did the Dr at the ER tell u??
1763947 tn?1334055319 Yeah, I've had chronic rib pain for over 2 years. Mine went from zero to excruciating in less than 2 months after I'd had steroids. Well after I started treatment, I spent a lot of time with a heating pad across my lower ribs. The heat always eased the pain. I suppose because the spirochetes don't like heat. The rib pain is definitely Lyme, but my doc says that Babesia can cause chest pain. My Babesia chest pain was a little different than the rib pain.
Avatar n tn Any sort of chest pain should be evaluated by a doctor. It could be something like your back out of alignment or a pinched nerve. Could also be something to do with your heart or meds. If the pain is really bad go to the ER. Get it checked out.
Avatar n tn If those tests are normal and your physical exam is consistent with costochondritis, your doctor will diagnose costochondritis as the cause of your chest pain. It is important, however, for adults with chest pain to be examined and tested for heart disease before being diagnosed with costochondritis. Often it is difficult to distinguish between the two without further testing. The condition affects females more than males (70% versus 30%).
Avatar n tn There is a strong possibility it is costochondritis (inflammation of the joint between rib and sternum. The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. An orthopedic doctor can diagnose this for you. Pleuritis and Pulmonary embolism are other possibilities of chest pain. A CT scan of the chest can rule out both. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar n tn last night i felt alot of pain in my left side of my chest and the pain increases with mov't and breathing so i thought this is anew problem coz the side is above the heart or may be the heart its self so that i need ur advice.....
Avatar f tn Pleuritis and Pulmonary embolism are other possibilities causing shortness of breath with chest pain and referred pain to left shoulder. A CT scan of the chest can rule out both. Chances are that you could be having gastro esophageal reflux (GERD), where the food in your stomach is thrown up into your food pipe or esophagus. This also causes burning sensation or discomfort in the chest area.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I went in and they said if was costochondritis... anyone familiar with this? it just says inflammation.. I have inflammation all over my body....
Avatar m tn It usually lasts a few minutes and then goes away. I dont have any other symptoms other than sharp chest pain, pain in my jaw, and left arm. What could this be? Is it possible to have a heart attack at 25?
Avatar f tn The type of pain you're describing could easily be costochondritis which is inflammation of the cartilage in the chest. It's nothing to worry about, I've had it in one form or another my entire life, but it's gotten significantly worse since I took a fall on my chest several yrs ago. Google the costochondritis and see if it fits. It's really a benign condition and nothing to worry about although it is annoying, I'll give you that.
Avatar n tn ve been to pain management specialists and have had nerve conduction studies. Doctors, so far, do not seem to know what could be causing my pain. Its a sharp chest pain that sometimes lasts for days and sometimes generates downward, If I press on the site it hurts. It feels like its not my actual heart, but above layers, possibly under muscle..? This has been going on since September 2007.
Avatar f tn Tietze is Costochondritis with swelling added. Costochondritis is inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs. Tietze syndrome is Costochondritis with the addition of swelling of the local tissue. Neither are "lifelong things," but can be chronic. (both are cause by localized trauma or infections, but a person can become more susceptible to the effects) Esophageal spasms, as a result of either, would be highly unlikely.
Avatar n tn More likely it is costochondritis which is an inflammation of the joint between the boney structure of the chest cavity. Other possibilities are trapped or damaged nerves and if there is local tenderness near the front of your chest, it could be due to inflammation of the joint between the end of a rib and the breastbone. Hope this helps, and thanks for the question.
Avatar m tn I had costochondritis once. It hurt, but you never know how one person't pain will radiate or refer. It is easily taken care of, at least in my case it was. About 8 tiny shots throughout my chest and even through my breast, that took the pain away right away.
Avatar f tn It can also be a clot in lung. However if there is only pain then it may be costochondritis. Chest pain aggravated by laughing yawning and deep breathing goes more in favor of costochondritis, which causes pain and tenderness at points where your ribs attach to your breastbone. The inflammation around the joint area gives sharp pain on taking a breath. This can also cause tenderness on pressing the area which pains. An orthopedic doctor can diagnose this for you. Generally there is no cause.
Avatar n tn I was dx with costochondritis recently after about 9 weeks of right rib cage pain and mild chest pain in the ER after they found inflammation. I had a ultrasound and hida scan to rule out gallbladder problems. The pain gradually became worse over the weeks, pain on and off over the day, some days are better then others. I am also having upper right back pain and pain down toward the lower right back and mild upper middle stomach pain. These last two days have felt the worst.
Avatar f tn After I have been sleeping for the night and I wake up, I have chest pain in my sternum area. It hurts when I move my arms to stretch my chest. It hurts when I breath deep breaths. This happens every morning when I wake up. Should I be worried? Is this common? Any possible explanations?
