Common Questions and Answers about Correct running foot motion

foot

Avatar n tn healing was normal and range of motion in big toe was good. The surgery on my right foot is another case all together. I did not recover range of motion in my big toe and when it healed it did not align correctly and the joint does not work. Now the other toes on this foot are all trying to bend to the left and my third toe is very bent; this causes pain upon walking for long periods of time. I was just fitted with custom orthotics but they do not seem to help much.
Avatar f tn Humans were not designed for running on hard surfaces. In time it can become a repetitive motion injury. Before modern man covered the earth with asphalt and concrete, every step we took was different from the last one. Think about that. As runner, I hope you are aware of good supporting shoes and what your specific feet need. There are only three running shoe manufactures in the US that make shoes for supenators, and pronators.
Avatar m tn Help. i woke up on Wed and couldn't go to work because my foot was so sore (where big toe joint is, and ball). Took 4 ibprofrin and hobbled into work 3 hours later. Got through day. Next morning i woke up at 3 am with more pain than i could fathom. Foot was red and very swollen. Excrutiating. Caught taxi to Dr. he said i have gout? blood tests showed normal uric acid level. Treated me for gout anyway. I'm on colgout. It's been 5 days. Still can't walk.
Avatar n tn Avoid running on concrete and make sure your shoes fit and support your foot properly, if possible go to a store that specializes in running shoes. These will all help prevent further injury, but first you may need to take even more time off.
338416 tn?1420045702 s quite foot drop yet, but I certainly have to *think* about lifting my foot up. They make a foot brace that would hold my foot up, but it's plastic and clunky. I don't think I would have started running again if it wasn't for the weight. I get so frustrated, because I'm really trying to restrict my calories, and it doesn't do a bit of good. Working out on the trainer was exercise, but it just wasn't enough. I'm starting to wonder if I have a thyroid problem.
Avatar m tn One possibility is unaccustomed exercise—so increase your pace slowly. Another possibility is wrong foot wear. So change the foot wear and see and buy good quality sports shoes means for running and jogging. Other than this you could have developed a slipped disc or suffering from spondylosis which ahs worsened by constant running. This needs to be ruled out through X-rays and MRI.
Avatar m tn Is it possible that he accidently nicked a nerve running from the knee to the top of the foot? If so does that heal on its own.? Still experiencing quad pain laterally and across the mid quad.. Possibly lingering tourniquet pain? I am doing all kinds of stretches including IT band stretches, calf stretches etc. and all my other PT everyday a couple of times each day . Thanks for your help and opinion Dr. Mathur.
Avatar f tn It really hinders my ability to increase my fitness level by walking or running. When I look in the mirror I see that my legs (below the knee) are slightly bowed. I often wonder if that might be the reason and if so is there anything I can do to overcome that problem? I would love to know how to overcome this.
Avatar f tn You probably over stride and land hard on your heels. Try shortening your stride so your foot strikes a more of a glancing blow beneath your hips. Decreasing foot contact time with the ground makes you feel lighter on your feet and a smoother runner. Quicker leg turnover is necessary to compensate for your new, shorter stride length. Good runners take about 180 steps per minute, or 90 in 30 seconds. Count your number of strides for 30 seconds and try to hit 90 consistently.
Avatar n tn Since this tingling sensation is in the foot this compression could be at the level of foot, leg or hip. This could quite possibly be sciatica. I would advise you to consult a doctor as soon as possible as you need to undergo a complete physical and neurological examination. Also please take rest and do some simple back exercises.
Avatar m tn ve also noticed that his paws (toes) are all separated when he does this, and he usually continues to try and walk forward while he does it creating a weird sort of jerking motion as he tries to keep his balance. The whole motion lasts only about 3 - 5 seconds and then he's fine for awhile. Is he just stretching in an overly comical way?
1017324 tn?1390936445 Over-straining the foot as in running could be the cause. Foot pain can also be due to arthritis. Faulty foot wear is another cause: the top portion of the foot could be rubbing against the shoes. Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn Keep your hand unclenched to prevent unnecessary tension. Because running is forward motion, if your arms swing across your body, energy is wasted; so tuck your elbows into your waist and your arms will naturally move forward and back. Finally, listen for the sound of your footfalls; if they register heavy, try landing more softly. Running shoes, the type of shoe that is right for you depends on various things, including your body weight, how often you run and the height of your arch.
2026060 tn?1328918475 If you develop a side stitch when running, stop running and place your hand into the right side of your belly and push up while inhaling and exhaling evenly. As you run or swim, try to take even, deep breaths. The stretched ligament theory would argue that shallow breathing tends to increase the risk of a stitch because the diaphragm is always slightly raised and never lowers far enough to allow the ligaments to relax.
Avatar f tn What causes the majority of the pain is usually the side-to-side rotation of the foot/ankle, not so much the up/down motion of flexing and extending the foot. Often the pain seems to travel up to involve the ankle and lower let. A custom-made ankle brace, one that allows your foot to flex up and down normally, but stabilizes and prevents rolling in and out, can be a big help.
518001 tn?1212419235 For the last 2 weeks or so, a few times I've experienced this. I put my right foot down on the carpet (slippers on) and it feels as if my foot is sliding, even though it stationary. Has anyone else had this happen?
Avatar m tn My range of motion is only 80 and it is 8 weeks since my knee replacement. Been in a rehab hospital, home physical therapy and now outpatient physical therapy 3 times a week. I have pain and stiffness every day. Taking Advill and Tylenol since my prescripton finished and doctor won't renew it. Every day I do my exercises and spend time on a recumbent bike. Anyone have this problem?
Avatar n tn The paddle crushed my foot right behind the ball of my foot and then folded and streched my foot down and into the shaft. I watched my foot and ankle stretch out unbeliveably far. I managed to get out after it tore my boot in half. I had amazingly had not broken bones and no torn tendons. The doctor said I shredded the "sleeves" around the tendons. I also had pretty bad laceration across the top of my foot that took 2.5 months to close and I am at 3.5 months now.
15695260 tn?1549593113 It's hard to offer running shoe advice because everyone's feet (and legs and hips, and how they walk and run) are different, and what works well for one person might not work well for someone else. As someone who has consistently run about 30 to 50 miles a week for the past 17-18 years (recently it is 60 miles plus for marathon training), I have gone through a lot of running shoes.
Avatar f tn For about 5 months now, I've had tingling/buzzing and the feeling of electrical current running in both my legs and feet. When it's really bad, it feels like they're burning. It gets worse as the day progresses, and especially when I sit for long periods of time. I also have this odd characteristics that if I touch any part of my body from about mid-torso on down, the sensation in my foot on that side of my body gets stronger.
