Coronary angiography gold standard

Common Questions and Answers about Coronary angiography gold standard

angiogram

Avatar n tn Having said that, if I was told I needed one I would do it without hesitation. It is the gold standard of heart tests to determine if CAD is present. I have had 2 nuclear stress tests in the past three years that were normal so I never needed a cath, but would galdly do it if my cardiologist said it was necessary.
Avatar m tn Personally I would have the gold standard Angiogram with catheter simply because they can usually fix the problem during the same procedure if the disease isn't too severe. If this is heart disease, I can't emphasise enough how the smoking will harm you and make it worse. If you stop smoking, after just a few hours your blood oxygen will start to rise gradually and you will feel a huge benefit after 24-48 hours. A friend of mine has heart disease and smokes.
Avatar n tn In coronary MVD, plaque can scatter, spread out evenly, or build up into blockages in the tiny coronary arteries. Spasms (vessel tighting) of the small coronary arteries also can prevent enough oxygen-rich blood from moving through the arteries. This too can cause ischemic heart disease. Symptoms would be angina or no pain with exertion.

And quite frankly, from my experience, I would have to agree. I had my first angiogram in 2005. Having been rushed to the ER with chest pains, I was given the full range of testing.
Avatar m tn Aspirin treatment has its goals and risks, while a relatively high dose of Crestor to treat a CT diagnosed score would leave me with a few questions. The gold standard is coronary angiography. If you are having chest pain, pain on exertion, or discomfort I would discuss that in depth with my doctor. A heart cath does indeed give more information than a CT. CAD, once properly diagnosed is treatable. Crestor (rosuvustatin) is very powerful, and can act as "liquid plumber" IMO.
Avatar n tn He undergone Angiography a couple of days ago and the report said that the Right Coronary Artery is 100% blocked. According to the Cardiologist, who performed Angiography, the blockage is old. But, my father has no pain (Angina), no fatigue and other common symptoms of Coronary Artery Disease. He’s perfectly alright. Also, his Left coronary artery is completely Normal and another Non-Dominant artery is 30% blocked, but, other parallel branches are normal.
Avatar n tn On the basis of this cardiologist advised to get CT coronary angiography. The result of the CT coronary angiography as given below: 1.Eccentric calcific in the RCA and distal LAD causing mild (20-30%) luminal narrowing. 2. No evidence of hypo perfusion or perfusion defects in the resting first pass myocardial enhancement. Now our cardiologists has advised to get catheter angiography to rule out further. Please advise me what should me my course of action.
Avatar m tn In conclusion, intracoronary Doppler flow velocity measurements performed distal to coronary artery stenoses contribute to the evaluation of hemodynamic significances of particular coronary artery stenoses using quantitative coronary angiography, coronary flow reserve from digitized coronary angiograms, quantitative left ventricular angiography The calculated pressure drop was highly predictive of the thallium scintigraphic results with a sensitivity of 94% and a specificity of 90%.
Avatar f tn OCTA is a new technique. FA has been the gold standard for decades. FA lets the eye MD see the whole retina OCTA only the macula. So both are useful FA is the standard and much more comprehensive test.
Avatar f tn Aditionally on the upside of calcium scoring: Exercise stress testing and coronary angiography, the standard methods for diagnosing atherosclerosis and heart attack risk, both work by visualizing the lumen, the channel through which blood flows. However, because the lumen also increases in size as plaque progresses, coronary artery disease may go undetected until late in the disease process.
Avatar m tn m guessing that the diagnosis was made from a stress test. The usual protocol is to have an Endoscopy which is the gold standard and much more accurate way to map heart artery blockages, and as Ed suggests either stenting or bypass is determined from an angiography. I agree with Ed completely, he and I have had multiple stents and also bypass surgery, stents are much, much less invasive. That said, stents can't always be used to solve the problem, and bypass could be recommended.
Avatar f tn We are planning to go to SG for invasive coronary angiography and will do PCI or bypass based on the findings on that procedure. That's what mom's doctor said.

Avatar f tn My Grandmother has been detected with a blockage in heart, and its not getting well by the use of medicines. Her Doctor is suggesting Angiography now. Her age is 81 by now. I wanted to take other Doctors opinion about this case.
Avatar m tn But then what?.... Coronary bypass is the gold standard for revascularization of blocked coronaries. Bypass has the best durability but even most bypasses ultimately fail due to scar tissue or progression of the atheroclerotic process. Angioplasty and stenting is a minimally invasive treatment with shorter durability. My point is that instead of fretting over .5, .9mm and all of these other indicators-I would use your apparent anxiety to motivate yourself to pursue a healthier lifestyle.
Avatar n tn Although measuring BNP to help diagnose and treat this form of heart disease is still experimental, scientists have found that BNP levels rise during treadmill stress tests in patients with coronary disease. BNP testing will never replace treadmill tests, heart scans, or coronary angiography, but it may soon help doctors decide which patients need additional tests.
Avatar m tn ve read about IVUS (intra vascular ultrasound) and FFR (Fractional Flow Reserve) and newer imaging tools to examine and quantify coronary arteries says that they improve outcomes in stents. It allows the cardiologist to better view the interior of arteries, plaque or calcium configuration, and enables them to do a more precise diagnosis, placement and expansion of stents. FFR also allows them to better quantify blockages by measuring pressure drop across a lesion.
