Coreg weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg weight gain

coreg

Avatar n tn I had a minor heart attack in August 2008 and I had 5 stents put in. I was started on coreg 6.25 two tmes per day. The dr recently reduced me to 3.125 because of weight gain. I am still gaining weight. I decided to stop it altogether and did not tell my dr. My resting pulse is up as well as my pulse rate upon exertion. I just stopped the coreg. Will this regulate itself in a few days.
Avatar f tn I too, was active (walking 6 miles a day), good diet, all you are, but developed a weight problem. I had all my meds evaluated for a side effect of weight gain, and none had this. I drastically changed my eating habits, and eat every 3 hours, small amounts of good stuff. I started doing this in Jan. and have lost 42 lbs.
Avatar n tn I'm writing you about this LBBB because you seem to know all about it. My girlfriend was diagnosed with it and has been prescribed coreg 3.125 twice a day. This med has caused her to go up in pants size from an 8 to now a 12. She's getting really upset over this and so I'm asking you if there is something else out there that does the same t hing as coreg but doesn't make a person gain weight? thanks for your time......
907968 tn?1292622204 I imagine they're trained to know which medications work best for which heart problems. As for dosage, I'm not sure. If you look at a PDR the book mentions standard dosages for children, adults and geriatric folks. I know with the antibiotics I use at work we choose which antibiotic works best for which type of injury or specific bacteria. I always calculate dosage according to species (mammals have a different calculation compared to birds or reptiles) and weight.
Avatar m tn A little fatigue, but I attributed that to being 38 and weight gain since I married (I had but on about 50 pounds over a period of 10 years). HE prescriberd the lowest dose of Coreg and told me to come back in 6 months. I went back, had another echo and my ef had improved to between 20-30%. He doubled my dose of Coreg and sent me home again. I just went back for another echo and I go see him in a few days to get the results. My question is, does it sound like my doc is doing enough?
Avatar m tn First observation I know is correct, Coreg and Carvedilol are the exact same drug, except Carvedilol is the generic form of Coreg. Increasing the combination would mean over 120mg, an unheard of dosage. You are already taking a gorilla dose and that can cause a drop of EF in my opinion. EF ratings fluctuate. I'd ask for a BNP test that is used to determine the level of CHF one has. Usually less than 100 indicates no CHF.
214864 tn?1229715239 ve heard a lot of comments about Coreg and weight gain though. I like the adrenaline blocking affects of Coreg. With Coreg, when I get anxious, my heart doesn't get all loopy. I think for that in itself, the stuff is worth it. Sorry, don't know anything about Bystolic but am interested in learning more.
Avatar m tn The cath indicates you have an ejection fraction of 25%, and that means your heart is pumping less than normal as only 25% of the blood received from the lungs is pumped into circulation. Normal is 50 to 70%. The best method to increase your EF is aerobic exercise to strengthen heart muscles. Losing weight will reduce the heart's workload and help recover to a nomal EF.
343006 tn?1314446471 I got tired at first but my body adjusted quickly. It did increase my weight initially but the weight came off again. Coreg did indeed raise my EF out of the CHF range and I feel 100% better, so I had a completely different outcome. I would suggest you see if you can talk to a Cardiologist at a research hospital to see why BP drugs react so strangely with you. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I would fault the lack of exercise, and subsequent weight gain rather than failure of the stent. Is he at least eating a pretty healthy (lowfat) diet? I have a cousin who is in the same boat--just refuses to follow his doctor's advice. The doctor told his wife to consider buying a big insurance policy on him, because it won't be long until she will collect.
Avatar f tn s usually increased by degrees. Weight gain usually accompanies it, but it goes away, or it did in my case. I was started with 3.175 mg X 2 and it just hammered me with symptoms of breathlessness and exhaustion for a week or so, but that ended. In my case it was doubled and and doubled, etc., now I take 50 mg a day. It might be reasonable to discuss cutting your coreg in half and see if that helps, and take baby steps with it. It's a wonder drug in my opinion, but hard to get used to.
Avatar m tn I'm a 62 yr. old male. I also do distance running. I had double by-pass surgery last May. My main artery had 65% blockage and my EF was 30-35 at time. I also have asthma which I thought was my problem at time since my breathing was getting worse. My EF is now near 50. Should I still be experiencing shortness of breath from heart problem? Know my max heart rate when exercising should be around 165 for my age. Where should it be when I'm running or lifting weights?
Avatar m tn As my heart function dropped, I was given higher doses, the weight went up quickly, but as the body got used to it, the weight dropped. At a point, I had to take Coreg, a very strong beta blocker drug. I was started in very small doses, and my weight climbed again, and when I went on gorilla doses, it went higher. Again, as I continued to exercise and control my diet, the weight left. However, never could I get my heart rate higher than 110 bpm in the twelve year period.
19887518 tn?1486048647 What about weight gain. I try so hard to lose weight and have been making some progress. Since starting the Metoprolol a few weeks ago I've gained 3.5 lbs. It's hard enough to lose weight having a pill make it tougher or impossible is disheartening. Have any of you had weight gain? Will the pill continue to put weight on or make it tougher to lose? Or will the gain stop after the intial 3.5 lbs gain?
Avatar f tn I also told him I was on Jenny Craig for losing weight (and have lost 15 pounds) - he still put me on Coreg CR which is impeding my weight loss. I understand my heart is more important - but I went on a weight loss management to help my heart. I'm just at a loss as to follow through with this dr that acted unprofessionally or start over - my mother recommends another guy in the practice - or can I now see my family physician for blood pressure meds? Seeking guidance.
4237975 tn?1351595953 I have been taking plavix, aspirin, lisinopril, famotidineand coreg.(coreg for 3 months now)was on metoprolol.I do have a little more energy than I did.I had an ultrasound in sept.but won't know from Dr. until my next appt.in Dec.I did notice a lot of colors from the ultrasound. What do they mean?
Avatar f tn Are you weighing yourself daily and recording your weight? If your weight changes every day, you need to notify your doctor (your doctor may need to adjust your Bumex dosage). Make sure that you are eating healthy (eating mostly fresh vegetables). Your blood pressure is good, not that low. You seem to be taking good care of yourself! Take care.
Avatar n tn Of course, lots of things can cause headaches, but the fact that you did not have headaches before you were put on Coreg--and now you DO--makes a pretty strong case that Coreg is in some way responsible. Call your doctor and report this problem.
Avatar m tn I will come off effient eventually and stay on a low dose aspirin. No problem. I would like to minimize the coreg and statin. The diet I am on is helpful for Nitric oxide and for endothelial health as well as providing some level natural ACE inhibition, and platelet aggregation inhibition, and is high in natural anti-oxidants. So, what will staying on 6.25 mg coreg and 10 mg pravastatin do for me in the long run?
Avatar m tn He has me dropping to 12.5 of the Coreg and 50mg of the Tenormin twice a day for 4 days and then 6.25 Coreg and 50 Tenormin twice a day for 4 days, and then only the Tenormin 50 to 75 twice a day depending on BP numbers. Any one have any knowledge or thoughts about this? BTW I trust my Cardiologist but am nervous anytime I have to change meds!
Avatar n tn This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it? I know that Lexapro can cause tiredness as well, but my doctor seemed to think otherwise.
Avatar n tn Try cutting back, and it is not unusual for the heartrate not to increase very high with exercise. I believe you asked about another beta blocker as a substitute for coreg. Coreg as a dual mechanism as it also has an ACE inhibitor effects that helps dilate vessels. It is highly recommended for heart patients. Take care.
Avatar n tn I am curious as to your opinion regarding the use of coreg for blood pressure control for a juvenile diabetic, with renal problems (37%) function. The coreg causes problems controlling the blood sugar in the patient, and it causes bouts of vomiting and loss of consciousness it also causes very low blood pressures, fatigue and shortness of breath.
