Coreg vs atenolol

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg vs atenolol

coreg

Avatar m tn Dr took me off lisinopril due to dry cough about 6 weeks ago and upped coreg to 6.25 mg. cough resolved but I have been having early morning rapid heart beat (wakes me up) in recent weeks and my tinnitus has become much worse. My upper back pain which started while on drugs is also worse since the dosage went up.
Avatar n tn She did improve very much and is feeling better. However, her b/p is like 80/50 at times. She is on coreg 6.25 bid and lasix 20 mg 1 po one day and 40 mg po the next. We were thinking of decreasing the coreg to daily. Would this be the right thing to do? The dr wants us to bring her in to hospital , but we just want to keep her comfortable. Please advise.
Avatar n tn Is Atenolol a good option for treating Angina I am currently being treated for high blood pressure and recently my cardioligist prescribed Atenolol 25 mg in the morning because of chest pains I was having and my blood pressure was not lowering enough
Avatar m tn I was able to take a LOT of propranolol without affecting my bp too much. Coreg makes for a little more hypotension. Metoprolol, not too bad. Labetalol, one pill and I'm dizzy... but it does cut my rate down. To get into the meds that affect rhythm without disturbing bp too much, you get into the antiarrhythymics and the drugs get scarier for your rhythms. So...
341655 tn?1240368839 The Coreg is a beta blocker and may lower your heart rate. I am on Atenolol 25 mg a day. This is also a beta blocker and has lowered my heart rate. Hope things get better.
Avatar m tn since I've been on atenolol 50mg once a day, I cannot get heart rate over 112/116 after 30 min at 3 mph & 4` I'm 78 yrs old fairly good health This discussion is related to Maximum Heart Rate.
Avatar m tn Atenolol is an interesting drug. I am not an expert on it. My mom takes it and it's been a mixed blessing for her. My advice is to have your BP and heart monitored as frequently as possible to make sure they're in the healthy range. The list of side effects on any medication is usually scary. The main side effect I'm familiar with in terms of Atenolol or any other beta blocker is that it can take months to get used to.
Avatar f tn My EP told me this was normal because my heart was beating so fast that I felt like I just ran a marathon. Atenolol is a beta blocker which can make you tired also. I was on it for a couple of months and was taken off of it due to being tired all the time.
214864 tn?1229715239 I take Coreg CR 20 mg per day. I have noticed since taking it, my energy level has decreased, but then it seemed to improve, but then I started on Lisinopril and energy level dropped again, then after a month or so improved, then I got sick a lot (have small kids with big mean germs) and my energy level fluctuates, so don't know what to think. All this has occured over about a 4 month period...probalby not long enough to make me any kind of expert.
Avatar f tn I was switched from Atenolol to Coreg in the hopes that it would help with triglycerides, insulin issues and some fatigue. The tachycardia got WORSE! Coreg is a beta blocker but with alpha blocking activity. It's a non-selective a/b blocker which is known to have the side effect of tachycardia. I am going back to my doctor today to ask to get off of this stuff!!
Avatar n tn I am taking Quinapril and atenolol and one asprian a day I had open heart surgery in 1999 I never really had high blood pressure but my doctor said this was the normal for heart patients. I feel very tired all the time and have had some kind of chest pain that doesn't show any problems have had resent angio and stress test is ther mabe a better med.
Avatar n tn I lead a very health lifestyle and exercise daily. I was started on atenolol 50mg qd. Soon after taking it I developed bradycardia 48 to 52 and the BP went up to 160/96. Could this be a reaction to the medication?
Avatar f tn I was taking 100mg atenolol without food for hypertension but my glucose went up so my doctor switched me to Coreg 25mg twice a day. He said it does not matter if you take it with or without food. All i keep reading is to take with food....
Avatar n tn m betting you are also taking other drugs, such as beta blockers (Atenolol, Coreg, and many more). Beta blockers can cause fatigue. Is that a possibility?
Avatar f tn In my opinion, experience and search Coreg is the best and main medication (with other pills) if you have low EF. Up until the EF improves like a year or more good to be on Coreg. If your doctor says not for you, ask him to explain why?

Avatar m tn Is the Atenolol suitable, or should I request another beta blocker? Likewise, is there a better diuretic than Chlortalidone? I keep reading about Coreg and & Demadex. Are these better options? Cozaar: They initially wanted to put me on Lisinopril, but I was on that previously and I had a terrible, nagging cough the entire time. I've read that ACE Inhibitors are preferable to ARBs, though, when it comes to CHF.
Avatar m tn I've read not long ago about there being some lawsuits over Multaq and liver damage. Does anyone know if this drug truly is bad? I've read some of the reports saying to stay away from it. I'm only asking because my mother has Tachycardia, and the Coreg she is taking doesn't seem to be helping her fast heart beat much, lately anyways. The doctor said the next medicine he would try is Multaq (Dronedarone). But after reading about the lawsuit stuff it scares you off.
10287982 tn?1443815735 Coreg also blocks norepinephrine from nerve receptors in the brain. This may cause depression and lethargy. Some antidepressants work the opposite way, to increase noradrenergic neurotransmission. Your side effects are fairly classic. Why don't you try a beta blocker which doesn't block receptors in the brain?
Avatar n tn Q2) The patient has had high blood pressure for many years now but when he was on Atenolol he never had a problem with his heart and his BP was controlled. When he switched to a different GP (local doctor), the new doctor said the Atenolol dose was too high and halved it. Within 6 months the patient had developed heart failure. Then they took him off Atenolol and put him on other medications they said were better for his heart condition.
612551 tn?1450022175 1. by taking the same mg atenolol as you did metoprolol you doubled your dosage of effective beta blocker.
Avatar m tn Should I go back to my Doctor and request he put me back on Atenolol? I believe the Atenolol was doing the job. I had a few spikes and most of them were while in a Doctors office. I might add I have been taking the Atenolol since my Heart Surgery in 1996.
Avatar m tn Oilurt, do you have a pacemaker with defibrillator, or just the defibrillator? The reason I'm curious is that people that have demand pacemakers will have their heart rate maintained at a certain point if their heart rate drops too low. Taking too much of a Beta Blocker can drop your heart rate, with a demand pacemaker, it would be assured to be maintained at a certain rate.
Avatar n tn I am on Crestor, Atenolol, Cartia and Digoxin and Synthroid. I had Tachicardia and Atrial Fib. I have symptoms of shortness of breath, a dry cough, extreme fatigue, short term memory loss, extreme joint pain and stiffness, poor balance, weakness at times, vision gets dark at times, neck and throat soreness. I'm going to my doctor because I can't function with these symptoms. Can you tell me which meds can cause this and what other meds I could take. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I was switch from Toprol which caused my bp to drop too low and made me dizzy. My EP switched me to Atenolol which, he said, does not cross the blood-brain barrier and not cause the dizziness. I took it alone for 7 years and controlled afib with it.
Avatar n tn The problem is the effect this has on my sense of well-being. Though I'm SO thankful for the effects of atenolol, I'm afraid, as I don't really know what/how harmful these episodes are. I've subsequently developed panic attacks, where b/f I had no anxiety issues. I’d let others convince me that this was only anxiety & tried Lexapro (exacerbated rhythm) & Klonopin (couldn't tolerate sedation).
Avatar n tn Of course, lots of things can cause headaches, but the fact that you did not have headaches before you were put on Coreg--and now you DO--makes a pretty strong case that Coreg is in some way responsible. Call your doctor and report this problem.
