Coreg to metoprolol conversion

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg to metoprolol conversion

coreg

Avatar f tn Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and the mechanism of the agent is to dilate vessels to reduce hypertension. Metoprolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Metoprolol is used to treat angina and hypertension for high blood pressure. It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. My regimen is Lisinopril and coreg (beta blocker).
Avatar m tn My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better. The side effects from the metoprolol have gotten a little better - I don't feel as exhausted, though as I type this my heart rate is 52 bpm. Plus when I go walking I can't get my heart rate above 95 bpm. Does any one have any comments on the pros and cons of carvedilol versus metoprolol?

I'm not sure I want to switch if the side effects will be the same. Does anyone have experience with metoprolol?
Avatar m tn I assume Coreg is a beta blocker... they are famous for causing fatigue. I take Metoprolol - and I have found that I have adjusted somewhat. The medication still takes it toll on my energy (I think it is the problem, I am a mere 70). Metoprolol is a selective BB, and is not supposed to affect one's mental state, but it may be the source of your dream problem. I have what I call "trouble mares" every night and have for years.
Avatar f tn I have been taking metoprolol . Started about 7 years ago.100 mg /day Never had any problem. Never had experience with atenolol. I was taking coreg before metopolol for a few months. Was told Metoprolol is the best for the long run. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn What could be causing this is adrenal problem. Triggers are caffeine, black licorce, and exercise. The Metoprolol blocks this. There is a drug that is a beta blocker called "Coreg". Coreg blocks more receptors. You may want to talk to your doctor about Coreg to see if that drug will make you feel better. Stay away from the triggers and if it happens during exercise, rest. I have episodes of this also, but my episodes are only a few times a month.
Avatar m tn I am on Metoprolol Tartrate 25MG 2 twice a day. Within 30 mins of taking Metoprolol, I feel the effects and I feel great. My BP and it drops to 100/60 and my heart rate drops to 70 or even 65 BPM. I don't have any side effects from this med. That being said, the issue I'm running into is that the Metoprolol doesn't seem to last as long as it should. If I take the Metaprolol at 7am, by the time 3pm comes around, my BP is 135/92 and my heart rate can get as high as 120 BPM.
Avatar m tn Just had a second Angio in 10 mts with some blockage found on the distal side of the stent in the LAD. Cardio says I have to take my cocktail of Plavix, Metoprolol, Lipitor, Niaspan, Asprin for life. Is that par for the course? Does anyone know if there have been any long term studies done to see what the side effects of these meds are? I'm taking Dilantin for a seizure disorder which has caused serious lasting side effects.
Avatar f tn Many of us take a generic named Metoprolol to slow our heart rate...in my case my HR is always high and I do not have an ICD/Pacemaker.
Avatar m tn Dr took me off lisinopril due to dry cough about 6 weeks ago and upped coreg to 6.25 mg. cough resolved but I have been having early morning rapid heart beat (wakes me up) in recent weeks and my tinnitus has become much worse. My upper back pain which started while on drugs is also worse since the dosage went up.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am a 57 year old male. 2-years ago had a spell of Myocarditis that was mistaken for a heart attack, hence placed in intensive care for 4-days with lots of tests. The myocarditis left me with a LVEF of <25 it recovered to 40% within 6-weeks taking coreg & analipril.
Avatar f tn Our bodies do tend to adjust to to medications and our organs do tend to get used to them and return to earlier patterns. Metoprolol is a pretty basic Beta Blocker, there are much stronger beta blockers that will indeed take your blood pressure lower, like Coreg, but drugs of that class are very difficult to take. It's possible that you need to evaluated for a different medication or perhaps a pacemaker. I'd suggest Occupant asked a very good question based on your inquiry.
Avatar m tn Never had a heart attack. The Cardio put me on Metoprolol ( 50mg); Altace 2.5 mg and baby aspirin in addition to Lipitor 20mg. Sep. 2009 he took me off the Metoprolol and increased the Altace to 10 mg. My Blood potassium level at the time was perfectly normal at 3.6; after the spike in the ace-inhibitor my potassium level has risen in two months to 5.6, which I believe is an unsafe level. My family doctor has now asked me to go back to the 2.5 mg dosage and get re-tested after two weeks.
Avatar m tn People I know with heart disease are usually started out with Tenormin and as their heart diseases progresses with age then switch to Toprol or Coreg (Coreg blocks more receptors than Toprol). If you do not already know, you need to find out what your heart condition is and then ask the doctor what kind of medication you need and let your doctor know that you are not tolerating the Metroprolol. Brand-name is always best when taking heart medication.
Avatar m tn I never got cold until I went on a beta blocker, Coreg. Now I have to wear socks to bed in the winter and keep a sweater handy all the time. Just a side effect.
Avatar f tn Hello, my doctor is currently weaning me off the beta blocker Metoprolol tartrate and he told me told me to start by taking half in the morning and half at night so I just wanted to make sure that this medication can be cut in half.....?
Avatar m tn Is this type of recovery problem to be expected as a side effect of coreg, and can I expect this side effect to decrease over time or not? A few days ago my cardiologist said test showed I incurred no damage during the recent attack. In view of this, my SECOND QUESTION is: If I am in no worse shape than before the latest "attack", why do I need a beta blocker?
Avatar m tn So if you are on beta blockers and a Lion jumped into the room, my heart would get to racing pace quicker than yours. Higher dosages do start to lower the actual rate even at rest, so the right balance has to be found. I found it odd when I was on beta blockers. I lost that butterfly feeling in my stomach when I got anxious. So the answer to your question would really be, beta blockers can affect the heart rate, whether you have a pacemaker or not.
Avatar f tn I had about 10 episodes of 140 BPN over ten years with no more complications than emergency room trips for conversion or conversion at home with propafenone. My particular type was atrial flutter which appears to have been cured by ablation a little over a year ago. If your heart is otherwise healthy it is a condition that can be managed (but certainly no enjoyed!) https://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn about 20 years ago while performing in Denver..I had my 1st bout of stage fright..heart racing...shortness`of breath..hardly enough air to complete a sentence...it was so dibilitating..I became fear full everytime I had to hit the stage..I know I shouldn't focus on it..but I do..it'll start early in the day..last time in Vegas..I was almost in tears in the middle of the day...I've been turning down opportunities due to the fear...I've medicated myself with tequilla..and it helps.
Avatar f tn I still want children very badly and was told that basically, there were meds that I can take instead of Lisinopril, but I would have to stop taking Coreg. Of course, I would just have to see how I would do without Coreg... Are there any alternatives to Coreg?
Avatar n tn My doctor is recommending cardiac conversion. I do not want to do an invasive procedure if possible. Is there a non invasive option for me?
19887518 tn?1486048647 What about weight gain. I try so hard to lose weight and have been making some progress. Since starting the Metoprolol a few weeks ago I've gained 3.5 lbs. It's hard enough to lose weight having a pill make it tougher or impossible is disheartening. Have any of you had weight gain? Will the pill continue to put weight on or make it tougher to lose? Or will the gain stop after the intial 3.5 lbs gain?
Avatar n tn Has anyone successfully used a hypertension medicine or calcium channel blocker along with Taurine supplements? I've read a lot of benefits of Taurine and heart failure and would like to try it but it lowers blood pressure which my prescription Verapamil also does (I take Verapamil to relax my heart so it can fill as it is stiff and thick due to HCM) so I don't want to drop my bp too low and pass out. I will be seeing a Cardiologist D.O.
Avatar m tn I was able to take a LOT of propranolol without affecting my bp too much. Coreg makes for a little more hypotension. Metoprolol, not too bad. Labetalol, one pill and I'm dizzy... but it does cut my rate down. To get into the meds that affect rhythm without disturbing bp too much, you get into the antiarrhythymics and the drugs get scarier for your rhythms. So...
Avatar m tn what happened is my bp was going very low for months after being on coreg for years and accuprill too and i was feeling bad palps in chest once in awhile so i finally asked if i had afibd to there surprise my machine had recorded episodes, they thought i was reacting to the alpha in coreg and put me on toprol xl but the first day i guess the half pill wasn't enough and i had severe afib that went through the av node and caused a ventricular tach attack and i was on the floor with my defib b
