Avatar f tn It happened to me six years ago my heart was failing and caused congested heart failure. I did not know I had a heart problem until heart failure, but if I had known there could have been treatment that prevented that event. You have had a warning and treatment will prevent further complications.
406399 tn?1201884300 But I did not have high blood pressure, which can be dangerous if untreated. I had much less side effects on that Beta Blocker (the Coreg), but it's still a beta blocker. And even so, it might not be the best one for you. I think toprol, of all the betas probably has the most side effects. Keep pushing your docs, there are other beta blockers with less side effects.
Avatar n tn I am only 6 ft and 170 lbs. and the dosage you take for coreg would probably cause side effects for me, but fortunately my present regimen of medication serves me well.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist gave me a number of 45. What does this mean? And he wants me to take Coreg. So is this heart failure or heart disease? I also have mvp and had been taking propranolol for 30 years.
Avatar n tn However, in patients with angina pectoris, a previous myocardial infarction, heart failure and certain dysrhythmias, beta-blockers still play an important role.
Avatar n tn My husband is 55 years old and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy 5 years ago (may have been alcoholic cardiomyopathy?) -- he has been on coreg and lisinopril for 5 years with very few side effects -- his cardiomyopathy has resoved and his heart is "healthy" back to normal size and function. He decided to stop taking his coreg and lisinopril last week. He is weaning himself down. I think he is crazy for doing this -- especially without telling the doctor .
Avatar m tn My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better. The side effects from the metoprolol have gotten a little better, though as I type this my heart rate is 52 bpm. Does any one have any comments on the pros and cons of carvedilol versus metoprolol? I'm not sure I want to switch if the side effects will be the same. Does anyone have experience with metoprolol?
Avatar n tn My doctor wants blood pressure as low as possible without any side effects such feeling faint, dizzy, etc. An erradic heart rate at rest can be a problem (coreg should correct that problem). Many doctors discontinue prescribing plavix as there is a higher risk of excessive bleeding. Cardiac cachexia is unintentional severe weight loss caused by heart disease. Even with a very good appetite and high calorie intake, some people with heart failure lose muscle mass.
Avatar m tn m not the doctor but I know exactly what you mean regarding the side effects from Coreg. I was put on it for a little over a year due to an aneurysm in my ascending aorta and the cardio wants my blood pressure kept very low. Like you, I am still lightheaded/off balance on occasion. I walk on a daily basis and even a brisk pace fails to get my heart rate out of the 70s. (Of course with the aneurysm I'm not supposed to get my heart rate very high.
Avatar f tn My standard drug for A-fib is Coreg which has worked well for me with little side effects. I have changed Docs a few times due to insurance regs and they all have kept me on Coreg. Just my 2 cents worth...
21064 tn?1309308733 s these medications she takes for dilated cardiomyopathy she has recently begun digoxin, and this has improved her ef, and has improved overall heart function working in conjunction with the other meds she is currently at the max dosage of coreg, and with the exception of occasional low bp she has tolerated it very well (though i will caution everyone that at the start of taking coreg the side effects can be troublesome, she had two issues of very low bp that actually made her "dro
Avatar n tn I have extremely dry skin and am on a couple of blood pressure lowering drugs. I think this is perhaps more part of the aging process. I could be wrong though. As I have aged I have noticed my skin seems to be thinner as I cut so easily. And let's not start me up on the bruising.
Avatar n tn I was just put on coreg since june6th and have been having severe headaches from it and tiredness. Is there any side effects between these three that can give me these headaches? I was fine until I was out on coreg.
Avatar m tn My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better. The side effects from the metoprolol have gotten a little better - I don't feel as exhausted, though as I type this my heart rate is 52 bpm. Plus when I go walking I can't get my heart rate above 95 bpm. Does any one have any comments on the pros and cons of carvedilol versus metoprolol?
907968 tn?1292622204 I just got a refill of my Carvedilol (3.125mg) I take two pills in the morning and two in the evening and it has been this way since August '09. I read the side effects just out of curiosity and I had nothing better to do and what I found was, "Check with your Dr. as soon as possible If you experience cold or numb legs or feet or unusual leg pain". And it goes on to say "Contact your Dr. immediately if you experience....(lists what seems like 10,000 things)...
Avatar f tn Normal EF is 55 to 75% and is the amount of blood pumped into circulation with each heartbeat. When the EF gets below 30%, that may indicate heart failure as that may not be enough blood/oxygen to meet the system's demand. This condition will cause shortness of breath, fatigue, etc. Many people live a productive life without much limitation in daily living with an EF in the 40's.

Avatar n tn Did the operative report state that the damaged heart cells could be revived? Coreg is the drug of choice to revive those cells. Coreg is considered by some heart patients, me included as a wonder drug, Many, many people who take the drug have seen an increase in weight when it is administered, me included. However, it helped my heart health a great deal, the the weight gain was temporary.
Avatar n tn Does she have a heart condition? If so, you may want to ask MedHelp's Heart Disease or Heart Rhythm communities about this as well. I'm not familiar with Minitodil, but Coreg lowers blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I would be suspicious that you may have had peripartum cardiomyopathy (heart failure related to pregnancies) or the heart failure is related to the atrial fibrillation and this needs to be controlled much better. Would recommend trying to get you out of a.fib if possible.
Avatar m tn I have recently (about 6 weeks) been prescribed the new Betablocker Bystolic at 5mg/day instead of Coreg 6.125mg. Initially it has slightly reduced my heart palpitations which are less forceful, stopped some irregular or PACs and cut out the dreaming side effect of Coreg. However recently I have noticed that the color of my blood (taken to test blood sugar) is a distinct chocolate-brown color similar to whenever I have had to use Nitro tabs/patches for angina attacks.
1210142 tn?1266077031 As for the losartan and carvedilol, dizziness and fatigue are two common side effects of the medications. These side effects are often related to either low blood pressures or low heart rate but can often be relieved through adjustments in the dose and timing of the medications. I would check and keep note of your blood pressure and heart rate frequently (and not if you are having any of the symptoms) using a home blood pressure monitoring kit that you can get at your local pharmacy.
Avatar m tn If you do not want to suffer a heart attack or stroke, you need to take the Plavix and aspirin. Lipitor is a cholesterol medication that have proven studies showing reducing cholesterol and reducing some cholesterol buildup already there. The medications are your life line and you need to take them as prescribed by your doctor. Are you having current side effects from the medications?
