Coreg mechanism of action

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg mechanism of action

coreg

Avatar f tn Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and the mechanism of the agent is to dilate vessels to reduce hypertension. Metoprolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Metoprolol is used to treat angina and hypertension for high blood pressure. It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. My regimen is Lisinopril and coreg (beta blocker).
406412 tn?1217438384 .Correg is a beta blocker and by blocking the receptors it reduces the heart's rate and FORCE of contraction and thereby reduces the work of the heart. Coreg also blocks adrenergic receptors (QACE inhibitor) on arteries and causes the arteries to relax and the blood pressure to fall. The drop in blood pressure further reduces the work of the heart since it is easier to pump blood against a lower pressure.
Avatar n tn Blood levels of cyclosporine are increased if taken with grapefruit juice. A plausible mechanism involves the combined inhibition of enteric CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein, which potentially leads to serious adverse events (e.g., nephrotoxicity).Blood levels of tacrolimus (Prograf) can also be equally affected for the same reason as with cyclosporine.
Avatar m tn I am not physically restricted - I walk 1 mile or more day and do 10 minutes of other light exercises most days. My BP runs under 120/80 most of the time. I understand carvedilol helps prevent stiffening of the heart muscle and can help restore LV function to some degree. How specially, so it do this? What is the biochemical mechanism?
Avatar n tn With an EF of 35% I was advised to take the full monty, 100mg dose of Coreg after my Pacemaker insertion. I just couldn't handle it, I'm 6'3" and weigh 195. 50 mg is all I can do, but I also take Lisinopril and also I think Ranexa maximizes the effect of Coreg and minimizes my angina.
Avatar n tn I was previously on 12.5 mg of Coreg 2X a day for high blood pressure. I am also taking 10mg of Lexapro a day for anxiety. This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it?
Avatar m tn The mechanism of action of CampralĀ® (acamprosate calcium) Delayed-Release Tablets in maintenance of alcohol abstinence is not completely understood. Originally, several neurotransmitter systems, including GABA, were investigated for a possible role in Campral's mechanism of action. However, recent evidence suggests Campral's main interaction is with the glutamate system. Chronic alcohol exposure is hypothesized to alter the normal balance between neuronal excitation and inhibition.

Avatar m tn Oyakawa I am in my 3rd year of medical school and I was wondering the mechanism of action of steroid injections in the eyelid causing cataracts. It is not an osmotic agent so why does that occur? thanks so much.

Avatar n tn chest pain due to lack of blood flow to an area of the heart because of occluded vessels. The mechanism for the treatment is to relax blood vessels and maintain a stable heart rate. Many individuals and that includes myself take an ACE inhibitor (lisinopril) and beta blocker (coreg), and nitrate as needed for chest pain. If atenolol prevents angina, then it is beneficial for you. Your doctor may want to increase the dosage or change the medication if your blood pressure is problematic.
Avatar f tn Plavix has a unique mechanism of action by blocking the amplification of platelet activation by released ADP, and often used with aspirin to prevent the risk of clots for the first year after DES implant. Plavix and aspirin have different mechanism of action to prevent clots. After a year, plavix is usually discontinue as the risk for clots is decreased, and aspirin is continued long term. The risk of a clot is about 3%.
Avatar n tn If there is heart muscle necrosis (dead heart cells) the ability of the heart wall to contract may be irreversible. If the contractility is associated with an enlarged heart, sometimes the EF can be improved by reducing the left ventricals size. Regardless, the EF also depends on the "load" on the heart. There is preload and that is the amount of blood that fills the left ventricle during the resting phase and expands the heart wall chamber.
Avatar m tn t advise you, but I do know that it is a matter of trial and error when determining necessary doses of Coreg and ACE1 medications.
Avatar n tn The Coreg didn't improve my EF but it did improve my quality of life. Took about a year to start feeling better and now five years later feel pretty good and my EF has finally risen a little !
Avatar n tn I had a minor heart attack in August 2008 and I had 5 stents put in. I was started on coreg 6.25 two tmes per day. The dr recently reduced me to 3.125 because of weight gain. I am still gaining weight. I decided to stop it altogether and did not tell my dr. My resting pulse is up as well as my pulse rate upon exertion. I just stopped the coreg. Will this regulate itself in a few days.
Avatar m tn Does anyone know of the schedule to wean of of Coreg and restart Tenormin? I am on Coreg 50mg twice a day. How long before I start taking the Tenormin again?
Avatar m tn HIV is transmitted by; Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex Sharing works with other IV drug users Mother to child You never had an exposure.
Avatar n tn I am curious as to your opinion regarding the use of coreg for blood pressure control for a juvenile diabetic, with renal problems (37%) function. The coreg causes problems controlling the blood sugar in the patient, and it causes bouts of vomiting and loss of consciousness it also causes very low blood pressures, fatigue and shortness of breath.
Avatar m tn Is this type of recovery problem to be expected as a side effect of coreg, and can I expect this side effect to decrease over time or not? A few days ago my cardiologist said test showed I incurred no damage during the recent attack. In view of this, my SECOND QUESTION is: If I am in no worse shape than before the latest "attack", why do I need a beta blocker?
Avatar f tn I'm thinking there was a slip of the fingers and your EF is now 59. If so, that's wonderful. I agree that Coreg is a wonder drug. I've seen an increase in my EF as well. I was taking 50 mg daily until I developed Tachy-Brady Syndrome, so the dose was reduced to 12.5 daily and my EF dropped back into CHF numbers. I had a pacemaker inserted and the dose was brought back up to 50mg, and my EF jumped back up to 44.
Avatar f tn Other than lowering your pulse and blood pressure, if you took Coreg but did not need it, could it cause other damage? What symptoms would you have? I am on Coreg as a trial to see if it fixes my chronic shortness of breath. I just wondered if it was safe to do so or if it could cause permanent damage if in fact I did not need it.
Avatar f tn Potassium is a chemical element and it is part of the electrolyte that should be in balance with other lytes to adequately conduct an electrical impulse that originates with the sinus node in the right atrium. The mechanism of action is not completely understood, but what is when a voltage (unit of potential for conduction) and electrolyte there will conduction and passage of electrical impluses.
Avatar m tn I had Peripartum Cardiomyopathy with my second child and had to stop breast feeding because of the coreg. even though I recovered completely without heart transplant I was told not to have anymore babies, because I may not be so lucky. I took it to heart and didn't do it. If I were you I would find a cardiologist with lots of experience with high risk pregnancy and see if is really worth risking your life or even a baby's life.
