Common Questions and Answers about Coreg heart medication

coreg

406412 tn?1217438384 I HAVE READ - Coreg lowers blood pressure and increases the output of the heart - DOES THIS MEAD THAT IT INCREASES THE EJECTION FRACTION OF THE HEART? AND IF THIS IS TRUE - IF A PERSON WAS TO STOP TAKING COREG WOULD THEIR EF RATE DECREASE ? ? ?
Avatar n tn Coreg helps regulate a normal heartbeat and lower blood pressure. A reduction to 3.125 twice a day is lowest therapeutic value, and the medication should not be discontinued without doctor's advice. If you had a minor heart attack, you may need medication. I don't know of any weight gain associated with coreg, the reduction of coreg may be for other reasons other than weight gain.
Avatar n tn Dilated cardiomyopathy often is the result of an overworked heart. The medication (coreg and lisonpril) reduces the heart workload resulting in reverse remodeling of the heart and increased EF (ejection fraction of blood pumped with each heartbeat). Six years ago I had enlarged (remodeled) left ventricle and an EF 19-29% and hospitalized for heart failure...no symptoms until CHF...thought I was very healthy, and shocked to hear I had had a silent heart attack).
Avatar n tn On my own, I have experimented with taking only the night time coreg and other meds. The next morning I had more energy. Is there another medication I can take that would give me the benefits of coreg without the fatigue?
Avatar f tn I just read up on Coreg - - beta blocker, and on low blood pressure. Beta blockers can cause heart damage which then can cause low pulse - hense low blood pressure. He has 5 stents and is on crestor & plavix. He's also taking a multi vitamin & Omega 3 supplement. Can he stop taking the Coreg? Is there an alternative? He's strong and very active - physicallty & sexually. He's also taking Co Enzyme Q-10.
Avatar n tn There is some misunderstanding...my fault. I take coreg with lisinopril to lower heart rate and lower blood pressure. Coreg can lower the HR, and as you know, I very slow heart rate can cause clots, and with MVR an individual is more vulnerable. My docotor wants my BP as low as possible without side effects such as passing out!. And I believe the lowest possible BP is generally the goal as you stated. But coreg also effects the heart rate, so that enters the equation for optimal dosage.
21064 tn?1309308733 It would be great to have a place closeby where we could provide a hyperlink to more information on medications common for heart patients. Will you please help me by letting me know what medication(s) you are currently taking, or what medication(s) you would like to know more about? For example, I am taking lisinopril for BP control and Inderal for PVCs. I would like to know more about cholesterol medications like lipitor, crestor and vytorin. THANKS!!!
Avatar n tn am meds are isosorbide 30mg plavix 75 mg zantac 150mg coreg 12.5 mg lotensin hctz 20-25 mg pm meds zantac 150 mg coreg 12.5 mg norvasc 10 mg Can you give me a clue its driving me crazy should we not even take his bp first thing in the am??
475570 tn?1280941363 It seems logical to take the medication with the morning meal. I take Coreg twice a day, rather than Coreg CR one a day with the extended release. My blood pressure and heart rate is very good.
Avatar n tn Does she have a heart condition? If so, you may want to ask MedHelp's Heart Disease or Heart Rhythm communities about this as well. I'm not familiar with Minitodil, but Coreg lowers blood pressure.
Avatar n tn This lightens the workload for heart to pump against by dilating the vessels. Coreg also has a component to stabilize heart rate. Do you or is it suspected you may be susceptable to tachyarrhythmia. A TWA and Coreg medication seem to imply. You can take a stress test, with the injection of a dye substance, to determine the viability of the damaged heart muscle. I had an MI 4 years ago with an EF29-13% and some heart muscle damage at the distal portion of the heart.
Avatar f tn No permanent damage from coreg. Exactly as you mentioned, it can lower heart rate and blood pressure but it is otherwise a very safe drug. If you have severe asthma, you might need to be careful because it could aggravate wheezing but again, this would entirely resolve upon stopping the medication. Good luck. Dr.
Avatar m tn I would like to have kids but I am so scared that I may have a child with birth defects because of the medication I take. I take Coreg, Furosemide And Lisinopril. I am so afraid that the medication I take may cause a birth defect if I have a child. Does anyone anything about these medications and what they might do or not do, when trying to have children. Is there anything I need to do or be aware of. Thanks in advance.
721346 tn?1231003778 Years ago my EF was 29 - 13%, an enlarged (dilated) left ventricle, ischemia, etc. and medication reversed remodeling of the LV, reduced bp, slowed heart rate, etc. and today my EF is 59%.
Avatar f tn I got sick a few years ago and it wekened my heart. I take Coreg(Carvedilol) and Lisinopril. I still want children very badly and was told that basically, there were meds that I can take instead of Lisinopril, but I would have to stop taking Coreg. Of course, I would just have to see how I would do without Coreg... Are there any alternatives to Coreg?
Avatar n tn Coreg is medication that helps lower the heart rate and bp. The stress test will evaluate one's physical condition a peak heart rate unmedicated, and how quickly the heart rae returns to normal within 3 minutes or so. Other phases of the test considered as well.
Avatar m tn My medication was an ACE inhiitor and coreg (coreg is a dual mechanism with ACE inhibitor and beta blocker properities and helps dilate vessels and stabilize heart rate). Dilated cardiomyopathy is an enlargement of the left ventricle, and an enlarged LV can cause arrhythmia (irregular heat rate), and an enlarged LV decreases pumping strength (low EF).
1198633 tn?1341182388 I have recently stopped taking Coreg 6.25ng and started on Cozaar 50mg to manage my blood pressure which is working out really great according to measurements. I was weaned from Coreg by taking just my dosage at night and skipping the morning one for two weeks and then to stop. Since about a week after I cut down to once a day I started to notice a constant pounding heart.
Avatar f tn This drug is also known under the brand name of Coreg...it is a beta blocker used to treat hypertension among other things. How high is your heart rate?
Avatar f tn In my opinion, experience and search Coreg is the best and main medication (with other pills) if you have low EF. Up until the EF improves like a year or more good to be on Coreg. If your doctor says not for you, ask him to explain why?
Avatar m tn s purpose is to lower HR and help the heart squeeze more blood with each beat to keep the heart from wearing out so quickly. How many mg. of Coreg are you taking?
Avatar n tn Need to protect your stomach and I am wondering if 243mg daily would cause stomach irritation. You have diabetes also? Coreg is the best medication for heart problems. I do not see why the enema would cause any harm, but you can check with your hospital pharmacy or your doctor just in case.
Avatar f tn He had a cath 9-11 at a different facility by a different heart group and he has been told that his heart is completely clean with no blockages. He has been on Coreg for the past 3 years and a statin drug for 1 year. Is it possible that he would show absolutely no coronary disease like this?
