I guess you could say that the price was also a side effect, but...We are trying the carvedilol (generic for Coreg) to see if it offers me better coverage. It is a 2x per day dosing.

One of the BP meds I take daily is generic Coreg 25mgs, twice daily. I too noticed it says to take with food, which I did until I had been on it for a month - then I tried taking it a few times without food. I had no change in any side effects (dizziness. etc), so for me, it doesn't seem to matter -but then again, it's only one of 3 BPmeds I'm currently taking to control my BP, so that may be a factor as well.

As you probably know these are two names for the same exact same drug, one being the brand-name and the other the generic name. On a prescription a physician has the option of permitting a generic filling or restricting the filling to a brand-name. With the caveat that in the United States some general practicioners will refer you to a specialist before prescribing a drug that is used to treat heart failure there is no reason your physician should not respond favorably to your request.

He has me dropping to 12.5 of the Coreg and 50mg of the Tenormin twice a day for 4 days and then 6.25 Coreg and 50 Tenormin twice a day for 4 days, and then only the Tenormin 50 to 75 twice a day depending on BP numbers. Any one have any knowledge or thoughts about this? BTW I trust my Cardiologist but am nervous anytime I have to change meds!

what is the best way to wean off ,of toprol xl beta blocker medication. iv been on it for 2yrs now and I dont like its effects at all. been to 2 doctors and they refused to take me off it ? or change it to another medication. I was put on this med for palpitations that come and go. and high blood pressure that wont drop down easy at times! my ekg tests over the years have been normal and had stress tests done , again normal ? why then toprol xl ??

On my own, I have experimented with taking only the night time coreg and other meds. The next morning I had more energy. Is there another medication I can take that would give me the benefits of coreg without the fatigue?

I had a minor heart attack in August 2008 and I had 5 stents put in. I was started on coreg 6.25 two tmes per day. The dr recently reduced me to 3.125 because of weight gain. I am still gaining weight. I decided to stop it altogether and did not tell my dr. My resting pulse is up as well as my pulse rate upon exertion. I just stopped the coreg. Will this regulate itself in a few days.

It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states. I am not sure what the name will be of the medication when it becomes available in the US. Dilated cardiomyopathy often is the result of an overworked heart. First observation I know is correct, Coreg and Carvedilol are the exact same drug, except Carvedilol is the generic form of Coreg. Increasing the combination would mean over 120mg, an unheard of dosage. You are already taking a gorilla dose and that can cause a drop of EF in my opinion. EF ratings fluctuate. I'd ask for a BNP test that is used to determine the level of CHF one has. Usually less than 100 indicates no CHF.

I would like to have kids but I am so scared that I may have a child with birth defects because of the medication I take. I take Coreg, Furosemide And Lisinopril. I have recently stopped taking Coreg 6.25ng and started on Cozaar 50mg to manage my blood pressure which is working out really great according to measurements. I was weaned from Coreg by taking just my dosage at night and skipping the morning one for two weeks and then to stop. Since about a week after I cut down to once a day I started to notice a constant pounding heart.

I had the problem with coreg (beta blocker and ace inhibitor). Coreg Cr is a single slow acting dose, and the same coreg dosage split to twice a day (morning and night) was more effective. Talk to your doctor.

I have a friend - male- 68 who had a heart attack ~ 6 years ago. He takes a beta blocker - Coreg. I've known him for 3 years.
