Coreg for the heart

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg for the heart

coreg

Avatar n tn ve been taking it for almost 3 years and if I miss one dose i go into an MI and land in the hospital where they tell me my heart is still getting weaker, so I think Coreg gets more credit than it deserves.
Avatar n tn Dilated cardiomyopathy often is the result of an overworked heart. The medication (coreg and lisonpril) reduces the heart workload resulting in reverse remodeling of the heart and increased EF (ejection fraction of blood pumped with each heartbeat). Six years ago I had enlarged (remodeled) left ventricle and an EF 19-29% and hospitalized for heart failure...no symptoms until CHF...thought I was very healthy, and shocked to hear I had had a silent heart attack).
406412 tn?1217438384 I HAVE READ - Coreg lowers blood pressure and increases the output of the heart - DOES THIS MEAN THAT IT INCREASES THE EJECTION FRACTION OF THE HEART? AND IF THIS IS TRUE - IF A PERSON WAS TO STOP TAKING COREG WOULD THEIR EF RATE DECREASE ? ? ? WHAT DO YOU THINK ? DOES COREG JUST COVER UP AND MASK THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW MUCH DAMAGE THERE REALLY IS BY INCREASING THE EF RATE. . .?
Avatar f tn I dont know if im puttinf stress on my heart by not taking the meds and its going up and down...
Avatar n tn I had a minor heart attack in August 2008 and I had 5 stents put in. I was started on coreg 6.25 two tmes per day. The dr recently reduced me to 3.125 because of weight gain. I am still gaining weight. I decided to stop it altogether and did not tell my dr. My resting pulse is up as well as my pulse rate upon exertion. I just stopped the coreg. Will this regulate itself in a few days.
Avatar m tn Apart from mention about moderate consumption of alcohol as stimulant for the heart,I am yet to find someone who is practising it with success. As for me I am an Anterior wall MI patient since last October.Following the heart attack I am also on medications. My EF was just 26% at the time of discharge from the hospital. It is time someone here enlightening us on the notion of alcohol and its benefit on heart disease.
Avatar m tn but true if a heart only started to fall , I mean the % from normal, it is just a weak heart.......still need the Coreg because he might go down IN to heart faliure without it....
Avatar f tn Thanks so much for the response posts. Sounds like you both feel stopping the Coreg is not the best idea. Perhaps a lower dosage might be prudent. I'll be talking with my Doc. Thanks again to both of you. It is awesome to be able to hear from real people who go through similar experiences.
Avatar m tn are your symtoms permanent, day and night with no break? The answer is important to me because I can be fit and normal for half the day and sick and ill the rest and no doc shows any interest except in tests and pains in the heart. 214864 tn?1229715239 Hey Darling - you can have my Diltiazem.
21064 tn?1309308733 Thanks for the list! That's great! I'll be sure to pass those along when I compile the list. Hope your dad is doing well. My dad also takes a LOT of medications, post CABG.
Avatar n tn I am only 6 ft and 170 lbs. and the dosage you take for coreg would probably cause side effects for me, but fortunately my present regimen of medication serves me well.
Avatar m tn On my next cardio visit I may have to ask for a higher Coreg dose but scared about the tiredness and decrease in HR effects. My experience with Coreg is that you have to increase it very gradually and always do so with meals. It also causes me to dream a lot which in turn brings on palps and elevated systolic BP. Did you ever notice this side effect?
Avatar n tn It appeared the ischemically enlarged heart caused the MVR. The medical decision was treat the enlarged left ventricle and occluded vessels with lisinopril and coreg. Currently, my heart is a normal size and EF is 59%, but I still have moderate to severe MVR...the doctors thought if and when the heart returned to normal size the MVR would improve, it didn't. I don't have any symptoms, and if I have shortage of breath, fatigue, chest pain, etc. there would be intervention on the MVR.
Avatar f tn Coreg (carvedilol) is a very effective beta blocker. All beta blockers can affect blood pressure and pulse rate, they work by controlling the adrenlin. They don't normally cause heart damage, however. Just the opposite, they improve heart efficiency. He might need a lower dose, I'm sure his doctor will weigh in on that issue. Don't under any circumstances stop taking it, one must taper off. I take the drug, and it has worked very well for my heart health.
Avatar n tn I was off Coreg for 48 hours, on the treadmill I could only get my heart rate up to 130 or so. Perhaps I'll divide the half dosage to twice a day to see how that works...thanks again for the post..John To: John I was taking Coreg CR (slow release) single dose of 25mg once a day. I went back to 12,5 mg twice a day,and that works for me. I take an ACE inhibitor twice a day with coreg just before a meal. That has been regimen for years...Why are you on such a high dosage?
907968 tn?1292622204 I can only answer for the cardiologists I have had. They tend to stick to the same brand for each medication and gain a kind of experience in what dosage to administer. My cardiologists tend to stick to bisoprolol, ramipril, atorvastatin for example. I suppose over the years you get a kind of feel for how much a patient would need.
Avatar f tn I have had a dilated cardiomyopathy for thirty years from chemotherapy as a teenager. I have been on coreg and vasotec since early on and have been well controlled with my EF staying around 43-45%. The last year I have had decreased exercise tolerance and my EF has gone down to around 40%. I exercise regularly and am very frustrated that I can't run anymore. My resting HR is too low to increase the coreg and my BP too low to increase vasotec.
Avatar m tn It really depends on what is causing the heart failure. Did you suffer a lot of heart damage when you had a heart attack?
Avatar n tn This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it? I know that Lexapro can cause tiredness as well, but my doctor seemed to think otherwise.
Avatar f tn We could all hope for the magic pill that would raise our EF. The lower the EF, the more we would take. How low is your EF and WHY did it get that low is where to start. If it is because of rhythm problems, getting well synchronized can be helpful. If it is because if a heart attack, taking an ACE inhibitor will be helpful in the long term. Exercise helps. Do your best with nutrition and do NOT smoke. There is a spot to get started from. Take care.
Avatar n tn I have to agree with the CC doctor. You are not on the target doses of the Coreg or the ACEI, your Lisinopril. The Coreg target is 25-50 mg. twice a day. I think the Lisinopril would be 20 mg. per day. Now that may be because you absolutely cannot tolerate a higher dose, like me. Nevertheless, a CHF specialist would be a good start. I didn't qualify for a bi-v either. What is your BP? They want you as low as possible without passing out.
Avatar f tn She has done pretty well except for the fact it caused conjestive heart failure. last februray her heart defibulator started firing alot because of racing heart. At the same time her platelets dropped dramatically to 1700,white cells are up and her stool turned cream colored. She has had a bone marrow biopsy which was negative for cancer. We still dont have any answers.
